Join us on a sunny, autumnal walk around the Arundel area in West Sussex. This walk focuses on the surrounding countryside rather than the town itself.
Due to its cinematic nature, this video is best watched on a large screen, such as a TV, to fully appreciate the visual detail and immersive aural experience we try to convey.

Arundel is a historic market town located at the foot of the South Downs in West Sussex, approximately 10 miles east of Chichester. It is surrounded by some amazing countryside and is a gateway to the South Downs National Park.
We started our walk in Mill Road in the shadow of the beautiful Arundel castle. There had been many days of significant rainfall in the preceding weeks which had resulted in much of the low-lying area being flooded.
Moving onto Swanbourne Lake, this is a picturesque location at any time of the year, but particularly so in autumn. There was plenty of activity on the lake with Mute Swans, Coots, Moorhens (the usual suspects!) and various ducks. The migrant species had not yet arrived.
A steep climb up the valley at the north end of the lake took us into Arundel Park. The views are always good hear unless it is pouring with rain! The autumnal colours, though not as widespread as in previous years due to the exceptionally wet summer, were still worth the climb; we hope the drone footage does it justice.
At the top of Arundel Park we were able to see the extent of the flooding on the stretch of the River Arun from Offham in the south to Amberley (north).
A long, gradual descent, to the relief of our little dog, of Arundel Park ensued until we reached Hiorne Tower. This 1797 folly was built by Francis Hiorne whilst bidding to rebuild Arundel castle.
We then returned to the town and back to Mill Road. As this video is about the autumn colours there is very little of Arundel town itself; we have made a few other Arundel videos, and have plans for an all-aerial one using footage shot during 2023.

That was beautiful. You've clearly had a drop or two of rain, and I well remember regular flooding in the Arun valley. So many memories: as a child, cycling often with my family from Lancing to Arundel (couldn't afford the bus fares), picnicking in the park, and pushing the bike back up that hill out of town on the way home; later, rowing with a girlfriend on Swanbourne Lake and buying ice-creams from the lodge; later still, working as a photographer for the West Sussex Gazette, based in those days in an office directly across the road from the castle. It's one of my favourite places anywhere, and I shall watch this often. Thank you!

Pleased you enjoyed it, Jim, and that it brought back happy memories. Lancing to Arundel by bike is quite a ride for child. If you are on Facebook, you may be interested in facebook.com/arundel.sussex - much history of the town. On that page, I recall fairly recently seeing a photo of the old West Sussex Gazette office you mention.

What a gorgeous video- it didn’t disappoint! Nice to see so many egrets at the beginning. It must have been very wet underfoot- I hope most of the walk was on pathways. A bit too much rain but mustn’t complain as we don’t want drought either! The sky was so blue! & the autumnal colours so beautiful! Nice surprise to see a cafe en route. The drone shot at the end showed the castle’s architecture- it looked similar to Windsor with the motte and bailey ( I hope that’s the right terminology) Thanks!

Thank you for your kind comments, Diana. It was very wet underfoot in places, muddy too, and the climb up hill through Arundel Park was rather slippery! We thought we would include a brief shot of the motte and bailey showing the original stone keep. It was a perfect day for walking and filming, which have been few and far between recently. Please you enjoyed watching.

Thank you for your kind comments and suggestion. It can be difficult to strike the right balance between clip length and overall video duration, as we know from the stats that people in general do not watch to the end. Perhaps we should promote them as relaxation videos 😊.

Loving the wildlife shots guys, can I ask what camera gear you are using 👍

Thank you 😊 The main gear we use is: Sony A7S M3 with Sony 16-35 power zoom lens mounted on DJI Ronin SC2 + Sony RX10 M4 + DJI Mini 3 Pro (I think you have this too) We work with 4K 50 fps timeline, which is unusual but I think better suits our style of video. This means we shoot 4K @ 50 fps on the A7S. The RX10 can only do 4K @ 25 fps, so we shoot in 1080p @ 50 or 100 fps (or higher, as the camera has HFR mode for ultra slo-mo). We use the Studio version of Davinci Resolve, and the AI tools that includes do an excellent job of upscaling from 1080 to 4K - way better than the free version of the software, and well worth the £200 upgrade cost. We always underexpose, by between 0.3 and 1 stop, then bring out the detail in Resolve which helps retain the detail and colour. Hope this is useful - John
