So good that FINALLY the world gets to see how insanely good Victoria Groce is. For a few years it was only known in the online quiz circuit

In all fairness though (and this isn't to discredit Victoria whatsoever, in her current form I legitimately think she could even beat Ken Jennings if he was still allowed to play), Jeopardy has never been solely about trivia knowledge but also about how fast you are on the signaling device (in addition to random luck elements such as the DD's). One could be literally the greatest trivia master in the world and yet still struggle on Jeopardy if they don't know the buzzer timing. Victoria obviously has it down to a tee and that fact combined with her insane breadth of knowledge is how she is able to do so well in these Masters!

Absolutely insane. I knew that Victoria would at least be competitive with James, but I NEVER would've predicted she would consistently be outbuzzing him and even crushing him in runaway fashion! I think at this point unless James gets lucky with the DD's in the finals, this Masters is Victoria's to lose. It's sad for me to have to admit that as a James fan, but Victoria's skill level and the numbers themselves don't lie. Also RIP Matt. It's a shame this Masters didn't work out too well for him. Like some others have pointed out though, he does have very demanding work and that fact combined with him once again moving last year I'm sure left him very little time to actually prep for Masters. That could certainly explain his anemic performance. If he comes back for the next JIT, hopefully he'll show he's still got it!

Definitely agree with Matt. It seems like it was just a perfect storm to make any efforts he might have made to study trivia all but moot. I’m sure he’s going to do much better when the JIT rolls around… and I mean, he *is* the only Master this year to be 100% in Final Jeopardy :)

Impressive showing by Victoria but I feel sorry for Matt Amodio. Matt is a very likable guy, and I’m a Matt fan myself. However I will say that he has the most demanding job out of all the Masters contestants (and having just graduated recently, is in a critical time for establishing his new career) so it's really no surprise that he is underperforming in this year’s Masters. Preparing for trivia must be well down on his priority list. Even so, it’s always a blessing to see him on screen.

@@mr.timetraveler8784I still wouldn't say it's over yet. There's always next year's JIT which I'm sure Matt's automatically relegated in and there could still very well be other special tournaments on the horizon featuring him.
@NickTheEnlightened
@NickTheEnlightened 14 күн бұрын
Yeah I'd have to agree. Plus I think Matt may very well be satisfied with what he's already accomplished on Jeopardy and how much money he's won and is thus more or less ready to move on to "bigger and grander things". Further Jeopardy games may more or less be merely a formality to him.

Spoiler below: Turn the AC up because Victoria is SMOKING HOT! She pretty much trashed James and gave Matt the nail in the coffin for his season. James is honestly doomed without the speed to beat Victoria, but it will still be a treat to see him compete.

Could Victoria have made a run at Ken’s $2.5 Million record if she appeared in a later season of Jeopardy (instead of 2005, maybe somewhere around 2018)?
@NickTheEnlightened
@NickTheEnlightened 14 күн бұрын
There's a lot of variance in a game of Jeopardy, and I don't think Ken's winning streak is even remotely replicable (especially considering they instituted morning buzzer practice for all contestants starting in game 49 of his run, and ever since then the playing field has generally been more even), so while it is tempting to say yes, it's impossible to know for sure. I DO think she undoubtedly would go on a very long streak in her current form though, possibly at least 25 wins!

Watch out, James! The Queen is slaughtering you big time! Also, how many times is Victoria going to keep shouting out to Nora? Don't you think she's taking it way too far?

@@manodakshin6020One has to wonder if Ken Jennings wishes he could still be in the mixup right now. A matchup with him, James and Victoria, even if it's just for charity, would make for insane TV!

Fun fact: 50,000 is the highest winning score since Victoria Groce, herself, won $52,001 in game 2 of the Jeopardy Invitational Tournament Finals. What's even crazier is the only times Victoria Groce scored at least $50,000 (or in this case, points) were against 4 of last year's Masters, by winning $52,001 when she played against Andrew He and Amy Schneider and winning 50,000 when she played against Matt Amodio and James Holzhauer. It's also worth noting that Victoria Groce is the only player to defeat more than one superchampion (let alone three!) by scoring over $50,000!

I've never seen James as "smug" at all. I think at worst you can argue he's just a bit of a socially awkward guy who prior to his Jeopardy appearance wasn't used to all the sudden fame and attention he was receiving.

Fun fact: 20,800 is the highest true Daily Double since Troy Meyer bet $21,800 in game 2 of the Tournament of Champions Finals! Victoria Groce is also in third place for the highest Daily Double wager behind Troy Meyer ($21,800) and James Holzhauer ($25,000 in his 4th and 10th games and 25,600 points in last year's Masters). Now I wonder how different the Masters Tournament would've turned out had Troy Meyer been the producer's pick.

Can we PLEASE do away with all these champion games? I want the original game, with ordinary unknown people. Today, I heard that they're starting a game based on pop culture with teams of three instead of single players. I guess they're having a hard time finding contestants that know about something other than current trends and are smart enough to play independently.
