Jules Verne's ultimate travel classic has inspired countless journeys and international adventures since its publication in 1873. Around the World in Eighty Days (Le tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours) tells the story of Phileas Fogg and his valet, Jean Passepartout, who circumnavigate the globe in... nineteen hundred and twenty hours, or a hundred and fifteen thousand two hundred minutes.
The fictional story starts in London on Wednesday, October 2, 1872. Fogg has accepted a wager for £20,000 (approximately £2.1 million in 2020), set by his fellow members at the Reform Club.
