Two of my favourite distilleries! I have the Arran Port Cask and Deanston 12. Both of them interesting and complex. Great video. I've subscribed. 👍👍👍

Very nice comparison of two delicious drams. I had a massive love affair with the Deanston this year and I kept finding it at a great price at the airports but then it felt a bit too sweet. I do get that burnt match smell but interestingly I get it on the Arran too 😅 If you want a leftfield Arran, I'd highly recommend the Amarone cask. Cheers 🥃

Ooh so interesting that you say that! The Amarone cask is the one I’ve always had my eye on if I went back into the wine finished arrans. Great to know that you recommend it so it doesn’t feel as much as a gamble now, cheers!

Nice review. 🤗 Unfortunately both these aren't availlable here in Sweden. I think that Arran is a step up from the Sherry Cask I've had. I wasn't too amazed by that, even though it was a cask strength version at 55,8%. We have a few Deanston here that aren't too expensive. A regular 12yo and a Virgin Oak. The rest of them are a bit seeply priced. Both these are definitely Inresting. I'm looking forward to the Smokey Monkey review. It's also om my travel list 🤗

Thanks again! It could be, i think that sherry cask has a mixed reception. Ah the 12 year might be good but I’m sure, this is my first deanston and first sherried Arran so I’m afraid I can’t be too much help! Ah I’m going to film that this weekend so should be up hopefully soon and maybe I can help you out with that one. Spoiler… it might come off your list 👀 but I’ll dig a little further into the bottle first

@@WhiskyWars Oh, intresting. Well I can enjoy the standard Monkey Shoulder, but without knowing, this Smokey Monkey might take a turn towards a not so good Famous Grouse Smoky Black. I'm stoked to see your review of it 👍 As for Arran and Deanston. I'm more prone to liking the sherried version of an original. So I will hold my horses om the 12yo, hoping to stumble over this one instead.. The general opinion so far I have about Arrans expressions I've had is that they drink lower than the ABV they have, but doesn't really offer the "umphf" in flavours 50%+ ABV usually give. I'm liking the peated sherry Arran over the CS Sherry so far.

Nice review M8 and tough battle. I love both whiskies but i have had only expressions from bourbon barrels. I want to try some wine cask finish Arran but cant decide which one buy first. Opinions are vary and someone even suggests to get all of them. Its really hard decision. I think i pull the trigger first for Bodega. This Deanston is out of stock i guess and costs more than £50. Other wine cask finish aged Deanstons are far too expensive. Actually i think to buy Dragon Milk Stout finish. With Arran or Deanston wine cask finish is same story like with Glencadam wine cask finish series. There were so much hype and love from whisky enthusiasts about Glencadam PX so i bought it. When its good dram and i like it didnt blow my socks away and i think i still prefer Glencadam 10. Maybe if i can find this Deanston 10 for £50 i will buy but quick research and it costs £60 plus £10 shipping so its a pass for me 🤷‍♂️. But your tasting notes are so yummy and would be nice try sample. Cheers and Slàinte 👍🥂🙋🏻‍♂️

Thanks again and it really was. and oh yeah I wouldn’t spend £70 all told for the deanston. Luckily I found it in duty free and ended up at I think £35 which I would buy again at that in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed it but it all depends on the price you can find it for as to whether it’s worth it or not. I think that’s probably the most popular although the amarone cask always intrigued me, I think I’d try that one next although I’ve not had their non sherried stuff or non peated. Which of their expressions would you recommend? I Loved the machrie moor cask strength (their peated line) not so much the 46% NAS.

I’ve seen the dragon milk stout, that could be promising for sure, do let me know which one you end up going for and how you get on with it!

@@WhiskyWarsHi based on research i done i bought Machrie Moor CS and its lovely stuff. If you have choice 46% and CS same expression there is just one option: CS all day long. Drink as you like. I love CS version. Same story with Kilchoman Machir Bay or Elements of Islay Bourbon Cask. Fantastic Drams. Strongly recommend. As a 1st Arran buy i suggest The Bothy CS version as well. Really good for aprox. £50 👍🥂🙋🏻‍♂️

@peatbull3426 I’ve written the bothy CS down, thanks for the recommendation 🥃 I would love to check the machrie moor 10 out and compare that to the tqlisker and ledaig but the 46% machrie has put me off that purchase now if I’m honest but it’s scary how much better the CS is to the standard 46 although I realise I got an older batch since it’s in the old style tin, perhaps it’s a little different now?
