Hi Dom, nice presentation. But one thing you didn’t mentioned. The arranger events can be selected via a generic controller. So in Live situation, you can play your song parts in any order you like, just by selecting a arranger part via a midi note from your keyboard. That’s really useful.

There’s a song mode in Reason that is meant to do something similar but this is so much cooler and deeper. Switching to Cubase was one of the best moves I made, even more so now that I can still use Reason as a plug-in. That was the one thing I missed most.

Block mode in Reason is much easier, but that's why I am watching this video cause I need to figure this out 😂🚨
@Magnus_Loov
@Magnus_Loov Жыл бұрын
@@adsearan I thought Block Mode was the most confusing thing ever. It was somehow jumbled up with song mode and it always became a mess for me, not helping at all just a complete mess. Cubase arranger track is extremely easy though. Very logical. Sits on top of "the song" and just tells the cursor to jump to different positions.
@adsearan
@adsearan Жыл бұрын
@@Magnus_Loov I have figured out both and arranger track is just mind blowing!!! I make a folder called track elements and just put my track parts in that folder separate from the vocals. Seriously, arranger track is boss!!
@Magnus_Loov
@Magnus_Loov Жыл бұрын
@@adsearan Seriously, Cubase has the best tools for organising a project when it comes to the later stages. DAWs like Reason or Ableton Live are great at the beginning when you are just sketching up things fast, but a mess when the projects grow.

That being said though, "shift + *" just absolutely blew my mind! I had no idea about retrospective recording! The amount of time I could have saved myself with just that one little trick! Dude! I kind of new this existed, but never dug into to it. Touched the use of markers at some print but always ended up just focusing on recording and editing with old habits. Forcing myself through cutting, marking, moving, missing notes, missing automatisations, f*cking up first or last notes in the block and making the blocks a milli second shorter so therefore f*cking up the loops. And so on. So what was needed to be smooth never was and it has always been the grudge in the process of creating.... and this since Cubase SX3 or so 🙃 As some wrote here I still learn things after 20 years! Yesterday I both discovered ripple delete AND this.... 🤯 Today is gonna be a Great arranging day!

This makes me so happy. About 30 years ago I was writing music for video with an Apple Mac Classic (2Mb RAM + 40Mb drive) using a midi sequencer software called Opcode Vision. This was back when Cubase was in its infancy and running on Atari! Anyway this software, which was cutting edge at the time, allowed you to write sections of music and label them A-Z. You could then type a sequence of letters and the sections would play back in that order - brilliant. The Arranger Track in Cubase is the closest thing to this that I’ve seen, but obviously way better. Thanks for the video 🙏

Oh Dom!!! The world just opened up before me! Okay, so to your specific question...I have used the Arranger Track in the past but I honestly used it more as a Marker Track. What I just realised is the power of using it for composing the underscore on my videos. 💥 I'll often compose or source motifs or loops that I want to bring together in different combinations and for different durations to fit the action and dialogue in the film. This could make what is a VERY messy and time-consuming process a heck of a lot easier. What's more 😃 ...I can comp different versions (chains) see how they each impact the story arc. Oh, mate, I'm pretty excited!! Quick question: can you have a track that lives outside of the Arranger Track? For example, the dialogue track(s) that don't get influenced by the way you set up the arrangement chains?! This has been a revelation...THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! 🙏
