Fantastic video. Awesome tips. I'm about to pull the trigger and buy a Big Rock after being out of RC for about 15 years. My previous attempt was with a HPI MT2 18SS, a nitro vehicle that I only managed to run a handful of times as I found nitro more painful than fun. So anyway, thanks for the insights, much appreciated. Subscribed. 🙂

Hi there. Thanks for the great feedback. I would say that these are a great choice for getting back to the hobby. You do need to check the bits I mentioned but beyond that it should be reliable. Personally I'd go for the Granite if I was only allowed 1 of these but as I'm not I have all except the Vorteks. They all have something to offer but I just like the madcap fun of the Granite. The Big Rock is a bit more stable so it depends what you want. Have fun :-)

Hi Mikael. Yes in the end I decided to put the Senton back to how it was and the get the Big Rock to complete the set. Trouble is that then they released the 3s Vorteks! Probably give that one a miss as they have hiked the price up. Anyway the Big Rock is an epic bit of kit and highly recommend when you find yourself with a bit of spare cash. Probably the best all rounder from the range. The red motor plate is metal. I'm not sure what is used for the red finish but it's like the blue on the Tamiya hop up's. Anodised I think. Anyway it's fine with threadlock. Cheers for you comments matey. Best wishes to you 😁

Hi Pete, hope you're keeping well, that was another informative video and unboxing of tbe mean looking black big rock. Your previous video tips have certainly helped my son and I enjoy our first runs of our Typhon Mega's, so a thank you from me. We had fun with our Arrma's and I am certainly hooked on them. Great RC's. We had no issues with our Typhons, they run really well. As you may remember I am still learning the steering wheel radio, but if I was able to perform one handed operation of the car and film with my iPhone in the other, great fun! We will probably be looking to start upgrading them and making them a bit quicker. But I must say, not at disappointed with the Arrma, great RC! Thanks for your hints and tips 😉 🙂

Hiya John. Glad to hear that you've been out with the Typhons. It is good to have RC's that are a bit stronger than the Tamiyas so you can bash them around a bit. As a 3s it's an absolute beast. @@PeteWylieRC yeah I just got a Typhon I’m loving it! Now I got my sights set on the senton to complete my 3s collection, the big rock is a really tuff truck, I’ve done a lot of ramp jumps with it on my channel and had some pretty hard tumbles, the only thing I’ve broken is the rear turnbuckle trying to do a front flip lol, one thing you may notice is that even though the BigRock is wider and slightly longer than the granite, it does traction roll easier, I think it’s because of the thinner tires and when driving they balloon out making them even thinner so I might try the granite tires on it and see how that goes! Good video and congrats on the new ride👍

Pete, the switch on the pistol grip is for the throw on your steering servo.. KZfaq can answer that for you.. now can you help me?.. can I run high melting point grease in my front and rear diffs on my granite, or do I need silicone oil. I cannot find the standard viscosity.
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 жыл бұрын
Ah right. I should have looked! Anyway I've only tried silicone oil on these. I think that they come with 10000cst. I used 20000cst because it's what I had. Can't see a problem with using grease because the Tamiya kits do. Don't think that it gives the limited slip effect that the thick oil does though. If you look for Core RC silicone oil on eBay you should find it. Many thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated 😁

@@PeteWylieRC I can’t afford to get up Tallbot antics, he’s more entertaining than me! I tell what persuaded me to go 6s platform rather 3s. It’s not the speed as mine is a short wheelbase stunt truck, similar to difference between Granite and Big Rock (Notorious / Kraton). Similar speed to your Typhon I think. I love the look of the honeycomb plastic chassis on the 3s line. But I fell in love with the Outcast styling and the V5 has the latest electronics to boot. Great shocks, aluminium hop ups and the dBoot tires and wheels are just epic. I’m saying all this and I haven’t even driven one yet! Arriving from Italy this week (second hand). I love comparing the platforms. Be interesting to see how the metal chassis feels compared to plastic (one day) - keep up the great content 👏

After 50 packs through the Granite 3s v3 (short wheelbase Big Rock) if you intend to run it primarily on 3s you will eventually need: Cvds for at least the rear and probably the front too I used the arrma ones. Metal crown and input gears for the rear diff. Or the hot racing ones but I think they're overkill and more than twice as much. And the slipper maintenance kit's brass nut and longer screw. Without these upgrades you will pop driveshafts at least in the rear eventually. (I've popped front and back trying to reign the slipper in) The slipper will wear in and start backing out even with blue threadlock and the rear diff will fail from getting the majority of wear due to the lifting front end. Shocks are another weak spot but optional as the shock rod ends pop out but you can glue those back in and with a couple spares you'll get through bag of batteries no problem. Or you can get some better shocks like the ones in this vid, the typhon 6s or zd shocks. The arms and turnbuckles are solid. The chassis and towers might be plastic but they are tough as nails I've never broken any of those doing full sends up a quarter pipe.
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the info. I've not actually broken the drive shafts in any of my Arrma 3s cars yet. I've worn out the spur gears a couple of times but they last ages. Thanks again

@@PeteWylieRC It's a great little truck. After a 10+ year break from the hobby it's been a blast getting back into it with this terror on wheels. Next car is gonna be the outcast. Hoping for the 4s but it's not looking to be. I really like the 3s line because they are straight up beasts on 3s and the parts are cheap enough to experiment and everything is so interchangeable with the entire 3s and 4s lines being the same platform. I ran my granite as a 3s Typhon/ Outcast hybrid for a while.. till I clipped a phone pole mid jump on blast and landed on a corner in the pavement from 20 ft up 🤣😭. Typhon arms are longer so that extra leverage made the difference vs the stubby, borderline indestructible granite arms. I put 12 tooth pinion on the stock motor and she had plenty of power on 3s even with backflips on there. Just had to watch the temps doing speed runs in grass. She's all stock width and wheel size again now and I'm just enjoying the truck for what it is. Thanks for the vids. You guys that take the time to get this content out there really help alot.

Great video! What do you think about the dirt escape hole that some folks add under the gear?
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 жыл бұрын
Well I'm dubious because apart from falling out, the dirt can go in there as the chassis scuffs along the ground. It's probably ok if the dust is perfectly dry and doesn't stick to the gears. I has a Traxxas Slash 2wd and the spur gear cover had a hole at the bottom to supposedly let out the dirt. Well it got endlessly clogged up until I got an RPM one with no hole and then it was fine. Personally I think it's best to try and stop anything going in there in the first place 😁
