After cooking the stock BLX motor during our desert style bashing session James decided to upgrade the ESC as well as the motor. The first combination used was the Castle Mamba Monster X with a Cen Racing Colossus 1450kv Motor running on a stock pinion. This combination ended up creating too much heat and the ESC would hit thermal cut off very frequently. The Mamba may have ran better with a Castle motor but we did not have one to try. Many people told us that the Colossus motor was great, and it was. We could have installed a Castle Motor after the Colossus but having heat issues before with other Castle combos that we have run in the past, James decided to go with a HobbyWing Combo instead.
I have been running a HobbyWing Max 6 in my Xmaxx for over a year with the stock Velineon motor with zero heat issues. We also run HobbyWing exclusively in all of our crawlers. Several of our street cars as well as a Slash also have HobbyWing Max 10 combos. Also, the Infraction is running on a HobbyWing Max 6 with a TP Power Motor. Basically we have run them a lot and have had zero issues with one. Ever.
So the second Combo was an easy choice to make. HobbyWing Max 8 Combo with a 2200kv Motor running on a 14T pinion. So far it is running great in the Kraton other than shredding the tires with in minutes. But we have solved that problem with some upgraded tires and that will be in a future video.

Let’s gohhh ! Bro , I love my Kraton 6s but couldn’t but one of the shocks I done to set up the shock . I didn’t try the last one but got the first one . I left gouge marks from the pliers . Prob should tried a flat locking vise grip or a plain Vice one more time .

Doesnt surprise me that it ran hot. Quite a large motor and vehicle for a 1/10 scale esc. Nice video. I have both castle and hobbywing and am pleased with both.

Yea, it's still doing it. We've blown through 3 complete sets now... lol Found some belted offroad wheels that work well, but don't offer the greatest traction in the grass. Vid coming soon.

I always thought the Castle-suff is the premium stuff and the HW is a good chinese brand. Would a HW Max 8 an upgrade for my E-Revo 2.0?

If someone’s in the Ohio mahoning valley area I ll film yer stuff with a dji drone and it will be awesome footage for sure 👍. I m curious to see how it does . It took a couple months to learn how to maneuver decent and not hit stuff , lol . One time one took off full throttle to the moon . Never saw it again 😂. It hasn’t happened since but the wind has a lot to do with flyaways . It has to be calm for many drones under $300

It has tock gearing for both combos. Just has too much power for stock wheels now. Got a set of belted ones that run great now, vid soon.

Do you think the CEN motor is junk, or more the castle having an issue?

It seemed ok, the caste mmx was the only thing available, it ran great but the esc fan is not very efficient. It hit thermal cut 2x and it just ran really hot. I checked the motor out.motor seems fine. Im.just sticking with hibbywing.ive put them in everything else I have and zero issues. Not knocking castle but I generally like hobbywing

CEN Colossus has more power than the BLX just not as much as the HW.
