Walk around Dallas Fire Department’s Arrow XT™ Pumper with Sales Representative, Scott Beckwith. Their TAK-4® Independent Front Suspension helps with easing the pain of the bumpy roads. The cab and front mirrors are narrower for ease of maneuverability in the car filled streets. EMS compartments hold their ballistic material, helmets, active shooter material and bullet proof vests. The curb sweeper on the rear helps with preserving their bumper from accidents and tight spots. The officer’s seat is set back and over as far as possible, and the dash is lower, to make room for a computer.

Now this is a good design. Built durable, basic, & easy to use. It's a true urban engine instead of the popular land yachts we see these days carrying every conceivable warning light & costly breakable technology. Strong work DFD. Bigger isn't always better, even in Texas. I looked up the specs since this guy left some things out. The Waterous pump is rated 1500 gpm. There's a 500 gal tank including 30 gal of foam. The rig is 96" wide, 30'-10.25" in length, & 9'-9" in height. The 19" front bumper holds a 125' 1-3/4'" jump line. There's a long coffin compartment above the ladder tunnel. There are trash hooks, rakes & pikes as well so despite what the rep said, they carry some truck tools but no heavy rescue equipment. If I was LACoFD, this is what I'd buy, as is. If you think about it, you'll realize why. Keep It Simple, Safe & Sturdy, KISSS.

The Arrow XT is my favorite cab because it looks the coolest.

Appearance is unimportant. Functionality & safety are all that really count in emergency services. Dallas has mostly switched to the Enforcer chassis for engines since Pierce has apparently discontinued the Arrow XT. The newest Enforcer model has a very large, one-piece windshield, more airbags & more space inside the cab.

It is not something new but there has been increased awareness. Firefighters were often targets in the 60s & 70s when I was growing up. It's just that Dallas was a relatively quiet, little cowtown back then. Except when the president & governor got popped on 11/22/1963.
