Thanks for the comment! Will do- Im headed back down there in a few months and It should produce some crazy finds! (Considering the sites dont get cleared out by others between now and then 😮‍💨) Super cool to think these people were doing your knapping shorts just without the youtube part. For some reason biface caches are more common in this county than most other places which leads me to belive it was a huge material trade hotspot considering all of the various material colors and quality. The furthest flake I found from it’s source point was about 200 miles away!

But thats ok because I dont do this for the money either. Its more about connecting with people like you who share the passion of protecting the past and just having a good time finding cool stuff. It's great to see you finding and appreciating such amazing History of our Native ancestors. I love these artifacts and have a collection of my own. Just a tip that could possibly help with your searching. Get an adjustable walking stick or similar wooden pole and attach a long nail off the end. Then add a carabiner to the other end. Clip it to your belt and let it drag behind you leaving a line in the sand/mud. That way you can see where you have been walking and looking. Easier to cover ground that way. Keep up the great content. I'm sure the Great Spirits are thankful you are bringing their lost possessions back to light and appreciating every find.

Cool finds! It's amazing how crude most those artifacts are. I suppose it has something to do with the time period of them and availability of resources. I live on the west coast and most artifacts were hand crafted at a pretty high level and most the rocks were carried from camp to camp from an entirely different area.
@eastcoastlithics1398

Lots of the quality issues are due to lower quality stone compared to your west coast obsidian and agates. Also chemical weathering can take the edges off of most rhyolite depending on soil content. There are definitely quality artifacts I just happened to find a site that utilized lower quality stones. A guy sent me a point from that area that was a G-10 so I know theyre out there.

They were used in the processing of acorns and other nuts. The lakes edge will have the newest artifacts that washed out. I would grid hunt this area.pick a point from the shore line to the water. Then walk out to the water,take 2 or 3 steps to the side,then walk back to the shore and repeat until you have covered that whole lake. You can miss a lot of artifacts by not hunting this way. You will more thoroughly cover your site. You should also be cataloging the site and each find. I would also recommend that you mark the location of your finds on your G.P.S. Over time you will see a pattern of clusters of artifacts showing up. I hope you will find these method tips helpful. Good job and keep the excitement coming. I have been hunting for almost 60 years and I still get as excited as the first one I found. Good hunting.

Awsome tips thanks! I will be using this info in a future video possibly. The stuff clossest to the shore is the newest? I wouldve thought it was oposite as the lake filled up and pulled things off from the top layer compared to a river eating away at the bottom of a bank. I could be wrong..

You should organize artifact hunting trips for seniors or those with some mobility issues. I have to use a cane or walker, and artifact hunting is one a giving I can sometimes do, depending on the terrain. I have to walk slowly, and that's a skill you need to spot artifacts!

@bjbobbijo5066

I wonder if that is because over there, they had hard metals for 1000s of years before they brought it over here? Which meant that they didn't need stone or bone tools as much as we did over here. Although, I have read and been told that the tribes around the Great Lakes Regions mined copper to make tools, beads etc for a period of time early on in their history. It would not surprise me if there might have been other metals that our Native American ancestor's tried working with too. It does baffle me about the ceasing of copper usage though. I need to read up on that more, because it seems like having copper tools would be stronger and easier to mold into what they wanted rather than taking forever to chip away at rocks. Interesting.

Does anyone else have this thing going on? When the young man is walking to wash off a relic, it seems like he’s gone past dozens of slightly fuzzy points. Is that just us projecting images of the very things we are looking for? My favorite is when he uncovers a point but my mind thinks that I can see several points that he could have gotten. So what are my eyes looking at? Am I the only one? Is this a sign of early onset of dementia? Just add ‘er to the list of things going on these days. Anyway a very fine and interesting video that got me to thinking that I may be losing my mind..

I think the drill @10:28 may actually be a Randolph arrowhead. They are known to have cortex showing and aren't particularly well made. Randolphs are a post-contact point when agriculture and livestock reduced the need for hunting.

@eastcoastlithics1398 6 ай бұрын
I found one later on in the video too if you saw it. Made of black ryholite. Its entirely likely that “drill” is a randolph too. I didnt know the natives were in the area that recent in history!

Those pitted stones/"nutting" stones are pitted anvils/bipolar anvils used in the knapping/material reduction process. Not for cracking nuts imo, bipolar knapping.
@eastcoastlithics1398
@eastcoastlithics1398 5 ай бұрын
I have seen examples of this type of knapping! I bet some deeper more pitted stones were for nuts and the ones with more scattered pecks (like this one and others Ive found recently) were for knapping.

Isn’t removing artifacts from public land illegal?
@eastcoastlithics1398
@eastcoastlithics1398 5 ай бұрын
Might be but its also illegal to pick up an old can (not even kidding). Im keeping record, and even saving these from destruction because I know very well a machine is about to break every single one of these artifacts in a few months. Kinda like robin hood in a way. Sure not necessarily legal but it sure is ethical in this instance. Just about everyone does it. At least with me taking it I can gaurantee it wont be sold for 15 bucks online with no record or anything.
