Arsenal is having an excellent season. Finishing 2nd is an excellent achievement for a young team which is IMO still 2/3 years away from hitting their peak. But they have bottled the league too. They sacrificed every cup competition and they were playing one game per week. Jesus,saka, zinchenko,odegard every one of them lost their form in crunch time.

But that's exactly what it is, every single club in the top half of the table had problems this season that more or less ruled them out of being hard fighters for the title. City was being forced to incorporate Haaland into their side while also dealing with losing Fernandinho who basically was the reason they dominated so hard no matter how many people want to pretend otherwise. United had a brand new manager that was only just starting a rebuild while having the mill stone that is ronaldo around it's neck for half of the season, Newcastle had a LOT of players it had to reincorporate into it's playstyle and was going to be shaky in results no matter who they had bought as a result, Chelsea was a bloated mess with a ton of mercs who didn't know their own roles and didn't even have a manager at the start of the season and still don't have one, Brighton wasn't going to get to the top because de zirbe is still a delusional douche who won't take responsibility for his failures, and West Ham are still toothless at the front because they have antonio dragging them down making it much harder for them to win matches. Meanwhile Arsenal are comfortably starting the third season with their manager, almost all of their players know each other well, they're all young, had one of the best schedules in the league for the first half of the season, and were under no actual pressure form the media as it wrote them off before they had even kicked a ball. Oh and don't forget that both United and City played more matches than any other club by miles almost guaranteeing they would be banged up at the most crucial time in the league. Don't care what season you look at not a single club in prem history has ever had THAT many advantages all come together for them in a single season before, it just doesn't happen. Add onto that the prem has finally financially recovered to the point where even the bottom half of the league is a question mark every weekend because they have all massively stepped up their game and everything is going to be several times harder for them next season as it will be for literally everyone else I doubt we will see anyone break 70 points next season.

So uh...a Top 4 finish is STILL really great for Arsenal altogether. But also, they did bottle arguably their best shot at winning the Prem for the next few years as I feel City is only gonna get stronger (if allegations don't get them), Newcastle's on the rise, Man U seems to be getting its collective shit together... It's a shame, too. I like the make-up of their team currently for the most part.

I was aiming for top 4 at the start of the season and ended up fighting with a machine like City ( who just tore Madrid apart yesterday in the champions league btw) I can’t be disappointed to be honest. As a Gooner, I'll sit here and take our lashings to say we bottled it. Every other top team in the league since Peps reign would've ripped your arm off to have that lead against City that deep into a title race. Not to mention, everyone is kind of cleaning up the mess for us in not mentioning how we didn't have an eight plus point gap on them once, but twice. And if this will be our last chance is largely contingent on our owners and how they interpret this season. They would've looked at this is good enough to go on in seasons gone past which only made the gap between us and the top larger. If they look at this as stepping stone to inprove and go again then we should be ok. But this summer is crucial crossroads in the history of our club, they have to do what's effective to get us back to this position.

They led for 93% of the season, you know how crazy that is? The highest a Premier League team had led the league without winning it previous to this was 78% (Arsenal in 02/03) and the maximum points they can now finish on is 87, that's just 1 more than Tottenham in 2017. If we can all agree that TOTTENHAM bottled it that season, how can we then even entertain the idea that ARSENAL haven't bottled it? Did I fall asleep and wake up in a universe where Arsenal aren't 13 time league title winners?? What is with this attempt to infantilise and coddle this great club into dismissing success as something that could never have been in their hands? Let them take their licks or forever relegate them to being the kind of team that is never expected to win things

Another great video, mate. Your unbiased approach is very refreshing. Arsenal have produced some of the best football to watch this season, without a doubt. Though, some of those games you quite rightly pointed out that Arsenal put themselves in some sticky situations to begin with. Most Arsenal fans knew from the start of this season that they needed serious depth to compete with City or Liverpool, when people say 'City have two first teams' its not a joke... They could put their subs into a B team and probably finish top 4. They didn't sign enough in January and inevitably a couple of injuries weakened them too much in terms of the way they play. All this bottle banter is only a good thing for the Arsenal squad, they're young, they'll learn and you'll bet Arteta will have a bottle show reel for the players next season so they don't forget where they've come from.

I think they overperformed a little in the begining ( they were on course to 100 point season), and couldn't keep that amazing form for the entirety of it ( injuries didn't help). Few upgrades in the squad (especially on the bench), and they can easily challange for Prem again. Their progress from last season is great, and defo we could see more of that side in the future.

Been a City fan all my life (it's a blood thing, not a convenience thing) and you just have to tip your hat to Arsenal this season for how well they've competed and the strides they've made in playing the way they want to play. Yes, you can argue they haven't quite had the squad depth, or the killer, experienced mentality needed to finish the season as strongly as they've been playing, but the advances Arsenal has made over the course of a year cannot be denied. Keep in mind that over the course of 4 years, City have beaten out Liverpool to the title by 1 point TWICE -- both times with both teams finishing above the 90-point mark. When City get into a groove and start looking at their best, any slip-up can get punished. I don't like people poking fun at Arsenal this season because they have so much more to be proud of than to be ashamed of. Any team that pushes this current City side to their brink deserves massive credit.

Take it from a fan who remembers when times weren't all sunshine and roses -- those difficult years, when your club is close to achieving big things but falls just short, it all makes you stronger and more experienced in the long run, and it makes finally seeing your favorite players lift the trophy all the sweeter. This young Arsenal team will have their day, for sure, and while of course losing out on the title is tough to swallow, achieving 2nd when City looks like they do currently is nothing to sneeze at.

Don't worry the majority of us think alike, we just don't talk about every setback happening if the season as a whole is a success during a rebuild process. We tend to view the bigger picture and realize that this team with the budget that it will have will COMPETE for years to come. Everything has been laid out perfectly and we could not be happier. Let the kids make silly videos and argue, its how life works. This squad is generational believe me.

Everyone talks about the pool game but I think that’s typical ignorance from football fans. If you want to win the league taking 4 points from Liverpool is absolutely superb and nothing wrong with that, the media and all rival fans mocked them and made it seem like it was a failure not to win at anfield when a draw is a massive improvement considering they usually get pumped there. If you want to win the league you have to do the double over teams like Southampton, West Ham for example. Not Liverpool.

IMHO Arsenal have had a brilliant season. And I agree with you that their first XI is amazing, but their squad as a whole isn’t. But that should be on Arteta and the Arsenal board that they didn’t strengthen it when they should have. What I would say is if they had lost the lead like in the middle of the season, they wouldn’t be called bottlers, but for those calling them bottlers now wouldn’t be wrong. Liverpool were called bottlers when they lost about 7 point lead about 4 seasons ago. And the way Arsenal lost or drawn their games, and to the teams in question, hasn’t been great. On the topic of city, I’ve been following this team for almost the last 13 years, the point when I started watching football. There have been many great city teams, including this one, but I’d say this isn’t the best. In terms of pure footballing ability, it was the centurions team. In terms of mentality and strength, it’d be this one. But the fact that pundits including Carragher, or fan channels like Goldbrigde talked about city being “worse with Haaland” and now everyone seems to be crying about how city have so much money to spend and/or this being the greatest city side just shows how short sighted everyone is. This team is full of experienced players who’ve won multiple titles, they know when is the crunch time to get the season running. I remember almost every game from about game week 7 to game week 23 being absolute dross for Man City, players trying to find their way, nobody being able to find Haaland, backwards sideways passes all game only to be caught on a counter… While arsenal were lighting the league up with scintillating football. You can’t consider only one half in football. You can be amazing for one half and absolute shite the next. That’s what happened with city. Arsenal just need that sort of experience I feel. Talking about depth, I won’t say city have it considering Pep played only 19 players all season. In 17-18 we had an amazing B squad, this time not so. Of course, the players who haven’t played too much for example Lewis or Phillips can and probably will come good as time goes on, but city don’t have a “second B team which can achieve top 4” altho the versatility of players is so so good that people start to think City have an amazing depth. Which isn’t the case.

They did bottle it and no one is convincing me otherwise. “No one expected them to be there”. But they didn’t and dropped 12 points in 7 games.

I don’t agree it’s a bottle job considering how inexperienced the squad was and the aim of the club at the beginning of the season ( top 4). Not to mention how thin the squad was which eventually left hurt them in the long run. Also,people saying they this season will be the only chance they have is a huge what if. We don’t know if the other top teams will make good signings or if they will even work out. Plus, I’m more optimistic by looking at Arsenal’s current recruitment which hasn’t been bad either. The positives are clearly there but it’s definitely going to take time to make a title winning squad. We’re not there yet obviously.

Two things can be true at the same time. Throughout the full season, they overachieved the expectations. But in the second half of the season, they had a big lead and it's not like they lost the league because they lost the games against Man City head to head. They couldn't beat way weaker teams. They wasted so many points. If they won the games they were expected to win in the second half of the season, Man City wouldn't be able to catch up.

the thing also is, they beat Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham and suddenly their fans and the players thought they are really the deal. Forgetting conveniently these teams were in a bad rut most of the season. Fittingly it was Liverpool, whom many Arsenal fans declared that they were taking over, who decided to put a spanner into the works with an improved second half in the 2-2 game that exposed Arteta as a clueless coach and the team cannot cope with pressure.

Dortmund this season and Spurs in 2016 are called bottlers despite Dortmund constantly switching rankings with Bayern in the table and Spurs not actually holding 1st before they collapsed. I don't have anything against Arsenal, but they held 1st for more than 90% of the season. If that isn't bottling, I don't know what is.

to be fair to arsenal,yes they have bottled it,but this goes out to everyone,how the fu*k is a club supposed to compete with literal backing of a whole state,a whole nation,a whole country... and they have had it for years and years and years unlike newcastle,and possibly united with qatar...the arsenal squad will be proud,arteta will be proud,and i will be pissed off because i will possibly see city lift a treble...as a united fan my worst nightmare,but with what kind of resources city has not even slightly surprised

I remember my brother (Liverpool fan) asking me what I hoped arsenal would do this season and I simply said I only want top four that’s it, the fact that we pushed city up until the 35th match makes me proud of the players and the manager. We did slip up in the league but bad runs of form happen to every team and they conveniently forget the times we came up clutch like in that Bournemouth game and home game against united. I also believe the people that slag off the team are secretly just bitter cause city won the league also

As a spurs fan this whole conversation is hilarious. Arsenal fans called us bottlejobs for years in our title challenge over two years we were top for about 20 minutes they were top for about 254 days. 8 points clear in April and lost/drew games they should’ve easily won there’s no other word to call than a bottlejob

8 points clear in April (albeit playing a game more) and finishing 2nd is unforgivable tbf. Conceding 3 against a relegated side and 7 in the next 3 is unacceptable

all this is Arteta's super plan. He masked his true ambitions which are winning the Champions Leagues against Red Star Belgrade in the final! Jokes aside as an Arsenal fan i think its very sad how we threw it away especially against Southampton, but i still think its an incredible achievement to be top for 247 days against this city team. Still i think we can challange again next season, yes united and liverpool will probably be back and they will strengthen themself but so will we. If we get Rice and/or Caicedo, a cb, a rw, fucking hell theres even rumours about us signing Joao Cancelo. I think this upcoming summer will be the biggest summer transfer window since we moved to the Emirates.

Arsenal had a great season and while many of us said that they've bottled the league, what they've done has exceeded expectations. If anyone at the start of the season told you that Arsenal would be in the premier league title race, we'd be laughing but that was the reality, Arsenal spent 8 months top of the premier league but just had a late season fumble and they can always pick themselves back up after this. Had they won against Liverpool, West Ham, and Southampton it's a different conversation and that would've put them a step closer to the title, now Manchester City are set to win their 5 league title in the last 6 seasons, including 3 in a row. Arsenal haven't peaked these group of players are still young and this won't take a mental toll on the players, they have to use it and learn from this experience. They've had habits of bottling it towards the end of the season and with experience, Arsenal need to close out seasons better because last season that cost them a champions league spot a poor end to the season and after being in 1st place for most of the season, their recent collapse has put Manchester City in pole position to win the league again and they have done it winning 11 games in a row. They've made too many mistakes something that wasn't happening to Arsenal earlier in the season, the pressure got to this young team and they'll go again next season.

At least their captain didn't say "we can't slip up", then literally slip on the pitch leading to conceding the goal to lose the game, and with that, a league championship. That one hurt.

Haaland IS bad for City though JUST for City to have the *SAME* goal tally as last season in the league, they need to score 12 more goals and they only have 3 matches left Haaland has been taking away the goals the rest of the squad would score and it has made them come up short from their league performance last season. That's statistical fact, they went from a club who scored form everywhere and you never know who was going to be shooting to they spend most of the match trying to get the ball to Haaland; ironically the exact same thing that plagued United with that has been ronaldo

Let's be honest if this was Spurs in this position everyone would be saying we bottled it. People now say we bottled the league to Leicester despite never leading the entire season. How can you bottle something you were never leading in? Also the difference is that Arsenal lead the league for 90% of the season. They were 13 points clear at one stage. 8 points clear with 9 games to go and could now be 7 points behind after this weekend. That's not pushing Coty all the way i'm sorry that's just simply not good enough. Let's call it for what it is. They bottled it.

I think you need to definite “bottle it” as a phrase because that would make everything completely clear. If you define “bottle it” as failing despite having all of the tools to succeed then that’s what happened. To that end, everyone who says they bottled it, points to specific fixtures and points in the season where Arsenal had the ability, the raw talent, and numbers stacked in their favor. People who say they didn’t just keep pointing at the “feeling” but there’s such a thing as factual statements and it’s gotten to a point where you can point basically at just the numbers over the last two months and say “here, this is where they messed up”.

ill be honest, throughout this season i really did not think we would win the league, while i wouldnt want anything more to finally have a prem title after two decades, I knew that City were just this insurmountable force to conquer with a world class starting 11, with strong bench players to rotate as well as a world class manager who could change his squad at a whim to be versatile and powerful, whereas our team was inexperienced, as well as every single player being a gear in the machine, whereas if you took out one player (not really the case with jesus but moreso with saliba) the system that made us so strong for the majority of the season would fall apart. I said multiple times that we wouldnt win the league unless we did x (buy strong backups in every position possible incase of injury, beat city at home) we did neither, and while I wont argue we absolutely collapsed against west ham and southhampton, (liverpool i was expecting a draw because regardless of form anfield is always a tough place for us to go to) i didnt think we could go all the way with city breathing down our necks at every moment, we suffered from injuries in key areas and we did not have the squad depth to play at our best every single game, as well as players being burnt out near the end of the season (saka is great but he spent the last 8 games dropping poor performances, and almost every single time he was kept on while players who were performing better were subbed off.) At the end of the day im still incredibly happy we've done so well, I dont think we will challenge for the title like this again but I hope this is the end of our banter era, the players build from this experience and arteta builds the team into a consistently formidable force that can challenge for the top spots again, but this was probably our best chance as every other team bar newcastle and city, are either going through rebuilds, went through constant manager changes or just struggled to find form for a majority of the season.
@adarbarrush
@adarbarrush Жыл бұрын
Lack of squad depth is the stat reason for the crumble, but they don't have a manager who has won it all as a player, nor players who have won it all. That's why mourinho won so much,he always had at porto and inter and chelsea, those players that dragged the inexperienced ones over the line. Honestly ,they should sign busquets ,not for a starter role but as a captain figure ,someone who has won every major trophy and can pass that leadership onwards

Before the season started and the players we brought on, in the back of my mind I knew top 4 was achievable but I wanted to take it slow and only worry about the next game that’s Infront of us. Game by game, beat what’s in front of you. My expectations were top 4 and one domestic trophy. Top 4 was well and running until we overachieved when the opportunity to win the league was in our hands. It was a massive bottle job. But the season is something to be proud of from where Mikel and Edu started with deadwood players. Now is the time to invest in the main targets this summer. There’s no more excuses for Arteta now. I want arsenal to try to win every trophy possible because that’s the goal for a football club: Win a trophy. No more of this “bigger fish to cry” nonsense. Banter era of football has disrespected trophies for far too long now. Arsenal have a massive summer job to do!

Hopefully, they will be able to add more depth and quality, and not get lost in the sause of the Champions League, and the cup competition. Eventhough I personally like Chelsea, soo much more; this is the best Arsenal team I have seen in my lifetime. Whenever, I saw arsenal games growing up there would be 1 or 2 great players and a bunch of logs floating along. I look back at Arsenal having "star players" like Gervinho, and this guys look like 2007 AC Milan 😂.

The reason everybody is saying arsenal bottled the league is because of the fans through out the season everybody was telling this arsenal fans they will crumble they refused we said they are too young and inexperienced to win the league they said the have winners like zinchenko and jesus, celebrating every match victory like they've already won the thing so when it came to crunch time there was too much pressure on the young team. I personally believe arsenal made progress this year but it's funny that your best season since 2003 you went trophless

We bottled the fucking league. We were perfect, we were back to invencible Arsenal. Then came the Everton game, and we started losing a bit. After our lost to Man City, we came back, winning most games. Then in preparation for the Man City game, we drew and lost against mid or bottom table teams. We lose to Man City 4-1, we lose to Brighton and we fuck over any chances of winning. I had joy for being an Arsenal fan this season, with all the mockery from last seasons, and I still do, but it isn't the same knowing we fucked up badly. Arteta and the whole of Arsenal had a great season, even if their last games were unnacceptable. I hope this young squad can come back and win the league after years of misery. Even though all these bad things happened, I'm glad Arsenal isn't below top 4, and that we're in the Champions League.

1) Offence wins you matches but defense wins you titles. Arsenal's defense was poor even with Saliba playing, they conceded far too many goals, for eg: 5 goals against Man United in 2 games, 2 goals against Villa at the game at Villa Park, that Bournemouth game, Liverpool game at the Emirates. So Arsenal's main problem is the defence. Arsenal could still score goals even when Jesus was injured. So Arteta have to make the defense better next season. 2) City is a team who may not start the season well but they always end the season well. It seems that they excel under pressure situations and rarely lose a match after the month of February. Yes they have a great squad depth and that's one of the main reasons why they can compete in multiple competitions at a time, but as pressure arrives each and every City player steps up and that's the main reason why City is winning the league titles in the recent seasons. But whenever Arsenal stumble under pressure. Same thing happened last season when Arsenal had to win their last few games in order to get top 4. But still Arsenal had a very good season. They managed to get 80+ points in the league and showed everyone that they have the ability to play good football. But next season I think they need to start competing in the other domestic competitions as well and possibly win the FA cup or Carabao Cup because I think if they are not able to compete in the domestic competitions then there is no way they can compete in the Champions League.
