Fully agree Rice was cheap at the price, but another element of the tremendous value for money Arsenal have obtained in recent windows can be expressed by observing that for the money they ‘saved’ by not paying a ridiculously inflated price for Mudryk, they acquired Trossard and Havertz!!

Improvements would like to see are a) Rice at times could pass quicker during attack (as an #8). One time, Odegarrd was waving like mad when we're 6 vs 3 and he fluffed the pass late in the end! b) players could aim high(er) for the shots esp when opposition players throw bodies and slide in to block the shots, just to vary it a bit. Martinelli hasn't been right since the injury. He looks like he's questioning every action rather than doing what he does best. It also doesn't help that prior to his injury he was statically the most isolated winger in Europe's top 5 leagues. We need balance to help him.

I've thought about it since last November and I'm afraid we might not see another Arsenal direct free-kick goal in along while. It is something Arteta has apparently coached out of our team. Non of the set-piece takers ever attempt a direct shot on goal from freekicks. Its always a pass into space or directly to a teammate. Given our amazing record in setpiece goals its not looking good for direct freekick goals. You should ask Arteta about Mr.Watts.

Charles, both incidents were fouls and Arsenal deserved the decision going in their favour. These are the decisions that go against Arsenal every time and we complain, but when it goes in our favour, our own supporters criticize it, I don’t understand. I think it’s better not to do player rating immediately after the game, so you don’t have to change your mind always.

1:40 even the Rice miss was great defending. GK had half the goal covered whilst three defenders were blocking the other half. What was disappointing was that there crosses where we didn't have any players attacking them, saves by keeper where we didn't have anyone following up and some of the shots were weak. Players like saka are knackered- what's the point of boasting of having a full squad when it's a closed shop- no one else gets a chance. Imagine if you worked for a newspaper and never got an opportunity to cover any front page stories, how would you feel when you get to cover the local school fate?

Rice was great, but imo Havertz was MoTM. 💪

I do think that Kai goes down way too easily in general and that's one thing I'm not keen on when i am generally a massive fan of his, but i do think also that that trailing leg is natural for the way he moves. I know you're a good few years younger than me Charles so not sure if you're old enough for the reference but the way he moves reminds me of Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men and his legs always look like they might not really beling to him.

Goal scoring 6 is what we need. Someone who can also play double pivot and can also score a free kick. Otherwise someone like Rice who is capable at both 6 or 8 but has potential to excel in either. I know it is impossible to find but Rice has pushed our high standards. We also need cover for 8 and 6 anyway, ideally spend the budget on one player rather than two players (separate 6 and 8) Also need to consider the pathway for Patino and Nwaneri. Perhaps that is why Jorginho was given a new contract. Jorginho is now taking the Luiz role of bringing through the next gems.

The Rice 6/8 debate is interesting Charles. I think I agree with you that he might be more influential as an 8 over the long run. But I do think that gives us a problem for the summer window. If we want to sign a long term 6, can you really go into next season with Partey, Jorginho, the new 6 and Rice? Unless we sell Partey, I wonder if we end up waiting another year to bring another midfielder in. Do you think we'll definitely sign a midfielder this summer?

Raya can improve some decisions that is not sharp like he try to hit the ball out, and just lucky with the free kick in the VAR situation.

Hello Charles. I would like to ask your opinion on whether we should now see Declan as full No.8 or still as a No.6, and how it would effect our summer transfer window on signing a midfielder. Viewing Rice as a No.8 means we need to recruit a No.6(Zubimendi,Guimarães) but it won't come cheap. Viewing as a No.6 means we need to look out for a more attack minded midfielder but right now in the market i can't think of anyone who is available in the summer and can be better than Declan in that position and also take the burden off Odegaard. Best option right now maybe is viewing Rice as a hybrid No.6 and No.8 and signing a player who can play both No.6 and No.8. Any viable option doesn't look easy and cheap, but i think it's what Edu and Arteta needs to select carefully to take the team to the next level.

Rice is a No. 6 and not a 8. If he plays as 6 hes definitely going to go down as world class compared to playing as a 8. Reason being his energy, physicality and mobility will serve him better as a 6. There are better players in the world in the no. 8 position compared to the 6, plus i don't want him doing so much work over the course of a season playing as a 8. I feel better with him sitting deep and doing his work infront of the backline making the occasional run in the box. I'd rather we sign two no. 8 mids with better passing and ball carrying abilities than Rice. Rice plays the 8 well but i dont want him playing it too often because of the amount of work it takes to play that position and the potential for injury. I want Rice to be available for majority of our games and to do that i want him to do as little running as possible to perserve his health

@charles Firstly and I know you'll disagree with me but I'd have given Raya a 6. What on earth was he doing flapping at that ball? He was lucky it was ruled off, really lucky. He's not a top GK in my opinion, you rarely see him making a save and when he does it's never a worldy or one of those miracle saves that top keepers do to keep you in the match like Neuer, Allison, Ederson, Oblak etc The only reason he's got the golden gloves is the players in front of me and the stats show this. Secondly you're right about Havertz. What was it do you think that took him so long to find his stride? Confidence? Gelling into the team? Finding his position or a little of everything?

Do keepers do anything like this? Raya surely should to celebrate his Golden Glove award as the back line has done an otherworldly job keeping the number of shots he’s faced low all season 2 - I know Partey was never a speedster, but do you think Jorginho has rubbed off on him? Partey seems to be playing at a more moderated tempo and holding space better while not being all over the place (having Rice as a partner allows this as well) What a season!

Personally I'd like to see referees stop giving penalties when people drag their feet to ensure their foot gets caught. However you dress it up it is cheating and I'd like to see the referees introduce one of these rulings that they seem to do now, for next season ,that VAR is going to disallow these manufactured penalties and book the attacker. Occasionally we'll lose out but we also won't get these sort of infuriating penalties against us which always make me feel we've been cheated.

Soft penalty and unfortunately Havertz plays that way and developing a reputation. Just not a big fan of this type of football. Another CM like Partey needed for Rice to replace or supplement Partey with dominant presence/grit (not Jorginho mold). I know, repetitous and boring, but so essential. Thanks Charles
