Hello everyone and welcome to Inside Arsenal.
In today’s show I discuss Aaron Ramsdale’s future amid reports that he has agreed to sign for Newcastle. I also give my thoughts on Mohamed Elneny and Reuell Walters after they announced they were leaving this summer and look at what Mikel Arteta has had to say on his contract and Sunday’s season finale.

Ramsdale just signed a contract with Arsenal last season, if they don't get the fee they want, they should not sell and that would be harsh on Ramsdale but that's just football. Arsenal are selling to try and get some money, what's the point of selling and taking a financial hit. If he stays, Arsenal won't need to spend for another goalie. Arsenal need to be ruthless, you see how many times we see Liverpool or Chelsea sell their fringe players/unwanted for more than anyone expect, that's what they need to do. If no one pays the money they want for Ramsdale, he has to stay and be number 2

Hello Charles! I am Aditya from India. Have been following you since your time at Goal UK, which seems such a long time ago! But happy to see you come such a long way. I really enjoy watching your videos. Would love to hear your dads views on Arsenal games during his time ! and those memories. For the match tomorrow, I would go with the same line up as last game, and hopefully if we are winning comfortably in the end, would bring on Ramsdale, Elneny, Nelson, Nketiah and Smith Row. They have all been amazing for Arsenal over the years and deserve some last game time even if it is for last few minutes. An Elneny long range goal to end the game! Whatever happens tomorrow, it will be a very emotional end to this season.

There is absolutely no logic in allowing Ramsdale to leave at that price. After taking the financial hit, we'll have to go out and spend more money on a replacement who will be worse. Totally understand it's been a harsh situation for a player we all love, but if the market isn't there to that extent he stays at Arsenal as a backup.

When you see the money Sanchez moved to Brighton for and Trafford moved to Burnley, £15M is a complete joke. We should not receive less than we paid, He has a long-term contract and £15M barely covers whoever we bring in to replace him as 2nd choice. Charles mate, always Love your content I have to chime in here tho - £18m for Aaron would be woeful, an absolute shambolic fee for a young English keeper in his prime! We have a pop at Arsenal hierarchy for been poor at selling - if they accept anything less than £30m for him then its shameful tbh I understand your theory of low-balling bids but there is a market for him which will start a bidding war And simply enough if we don’t hold out then he stays imo Insane to think he goes for cheap, especially to Newcastle when their owners are minted We have to hold firm here to set a new precedent of not being mugs no more in our handling of offloading players From Ben Randm 🙏🏾💗🙌🏾

Hi Charles I was wondering if it has been confirmed that Saliba is indeed going to the Olympics? If so, Arteta will need to work on our defence for the start of next season, as we all know how important Saliba is to our defence. In regards to the title tomorrow (today if reading). Arsenal’s best move for Aaron Ramsdale would be to make him part of a deal for Gregor Kobel from Dortmund. Kobel is world class, Raya is not. Kobel had second most saves in Champions League this year and most goals prevented as well. Two consecutive clean sheets against a PSG side completely overloaded with attacking talent. (He admittedly did receive quite a bit of help from the woodwork). Major upgrade for Arsenal and BVB get a great keeper in return.

Hello Charles. I think you are wrong about Aaron. Arsenal don't need to sell. He needs to go but the deal has to be right for Arsenal. If the deal isn't right, then he stays. There is simply no pressure on arsenal to sell the way I see it.

Re. the Thiago comment. Our squad building right now should be focused on two types only - the ceiling raisers, and the future prospects. This squad now has two years' experience competing at the highest level. We may still be a young squad, but we will enter next season as an experienced team. Jorginho brought that experience and mentality at a time when the squad needed it. Even if Thiago was able to stay fit, he doesn't fall into either of the previous categories. Like City, we now enter a period where the available talent pool to buy shrinks dramatically, but the price tag for the few meeting our standard increases just as dramatically. The great thing is, I have complete trust that Edu and his team see things that way also and will be very selective about who they approach. Big summer ahead, really looking forward to seeing how we spend our money.

Hey Charles, the same winning formula for me as per the last four games. Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu, Odegaard, Partey, Rice, Saka, Havertz, Trossard. If Saka is injured then Jesus in his place. Elneny to come on at 85 minutes for a cameo and standing ovation?

Literally just signed a long term deal. Absolute bollocks that we have to sell. He is an amazing back up / helps with english quota and its not on massive wages. We should make a profit on him. We payed 30m after he had been in back to back relegations. He then went on to be key part of side that finished 2nd. How on earth has his valued not at the very minimum being maintained?

Well it's been a screw up - at the end of last season consensus would have had been amongst supporters and media that the money on Ramsdale had been well spent - likely he could have been sold for profit and now a 15 million loss! As for Raya if they bought for the agreed fee and sold him on - they wouldn't get more than the money spent based on this season's performance. It has been a pretty shambolic affair which has been covered up by what has been an impressive campaign built on a solid defence. Arsenal could have got 40 million for Ramsdale last summer - they should have sold him then if Raya was in the works.

Raya is a definite upgrade, the way he commands the box from crosses despite being smaller is miles ahead, plus the confidence he gives the backline. I know every time Ramsdale was under pressure it was hearts in mouth, with Raya it’s like all good he’s got this… he’s human so yes he has made a couple of mistakes but not as many as Rambo did

Hey Charles, love your work. On the Ramsdale front, let's weigh up a couple of things... He is a few years younger than Raya and on a long contract. He strikes me someone who is a learner and a fighter. Yes he's a bit flighty and by his own admission "easily distracted", but maturity will iron that out of his game I'm sure. He has a new family and is settled where he is. He's part of a team that is only going up to get all the major honours. I understand the push to go somewhere else to get regular game time, but even being number two with the prospect of pushing the number one spot in the meritocracy we have at Arsenal, I don't think that rules him out of the England camp. We will still have a LOT to fight for next season and we are going to need someone as good as Ramsdale to help the team. Now with him quashing the Newcastle rumours... Do you really still see him going this Summer?

Financial deals are all about perception and strategy . Arsenal doesn’t have to sale him, he has a contract and he is a professional. Any club that genuinely wants Ramsdale’s services will have to put in a bid worth considering.

We don’t have to sell Ramsdale, you pay what he’s worth or we walk away… plenty of games next season for everyone especially if we strengthen our squad and go deep in all cup competitions

Shame to see these young players walking out. Walters was on the bench many times but didn't get to play, which must be really frustrating for young players because it gets your hopes up, but then you go home disappointed that you didn't even get 5 minutes in a game that was already won. Older players are a lot wiser and have been through this years ago, so do not get their hopes up and just see it as a team game and are happy to be part of the team whether they play or not. Young players want to get their careers moving ASAP and if MA puts them on the bench multiple times, they think more and more that they will get a chance to play.

Charles, I believe you tend to mirror this poor mentality of accepting low offers and devaluing our players. Why should the sentiment be so negative when selling a player of Ramsdales quality. This needs to stop. You should be propping up our players in your analysis and showing why he is worth more not pandering to this poor narrative. How much did Chelsea sell their keepers for? Why devalue your own players and assume the worst in terms of valuation? We should not sell Ramsdale this summer except we have a very good offer. What if Raya gets injured or hits a low form after the Euros? No sale should occur until after the Euros in my opinion.

I’ve got to disagree with you, Charles. If Ramsdale doesn’t attract top dollar, I’d be disappointed. 2 reasons: (1) Most players that go to smaller clubs from bigger ones are “not wanted”. (2) Ramsdale is quality, and is would be wanted by more than one decent club (Chelsea for example). I’d be disappointed if we make a loss on him.

If Ramsdale is sold for as little as £15 million with the amount of PL experience he has, despite one season on the sidelines, particularly to a club like Newcastle, we will be further entrenching ourselves as a club that sells for ridiculously low prices. Idk if my Arsenal bias is in play here but surely nothing less than £30 million is an acceptable fee!

Yes, 15 is a joke. Ramsdale is as good as Raya (30 M). Raya is better with his feet but Ramsdale is at least as good in other functions. So 30 is a fair price for Ramsdale.

If no one makes a good offer for Ramsdale why not just keep him as #2? If he's upset about it tell him if he's such a great keeper worthy of being #1 why no one's offering #1 worthy sum of money for you? If other clubs are offering second GK amount of money for you we'll just keep you as our second GK. Saves us headache of finding another goalie this summer. He wasn't even first choice GK when he joined and he has a contract, idk why Arsenal would suddenly be obligated to let him go at any cost. I get that it sucks for Aaron but there are worst fates than being a second choice GK at Arsenal lol.

I know Arsenal has always had a hard time selling players for decent money. But teams tend to sell players for big money when the team is doing as well as Arsenal are doing. But this has been a failure of Arteta's Regime. The way he just discarts players and telegraphs to the whole world that he don't want a player put them in weak position when it comes to negotiation. Players like Eddie, ESR, Nelson, and many more are gonna be sold far below their market value because of his poor team management. Xhaka left for 25m because no one saw it coming, and the team that came for him onew arsenal did not want to sell, so they offered good money, thats not gonna happen with these other players which is sad cuz we need to balance the books

Arsenal have proven that they cannot sell properly. Keep Ramsdale, use him in all cup competitions. Ditto ESR, he is ten times better than Vieira. Arteta needs to rotate squad, keep them all fit happy and in tune with each other.

Morning Charles .. on watching your vid and in particular the news & questions asked re Ramsdale rumoured transfer to NUFC and the possibility of a ‘swap ‘ deal for Bruno Guimarães ( I don’t think they will sell Isak) may I ask while appreciating your answer that swap deals seldom happen due to the complexity ( though I struggle to understand why they are complex given you value a player they value a player then to agree terms) of swap deals but is there a benefit for FFP in doing a swap deal as apposed to a normal individual deal … by this I mean is FFP affected given the sum of money exchanged for a swap is less than that if there wasn’t a swap. For example if Both teams agreed and Arsenal valued Rambo at £35m and Newcastle valued Bruno at £70m the actual amount of £ transferred between clubs is only £35m and is it that figure that is represented on the books for the purposes of FFP ? We have seen teams find loopholes in FSP ( Chelsea with there 8yr contracts) so might this be another. Alas my understanding of FSP is in the same boat as most fans ..basic so if you could research/ explain I’d be grateful, thks .

Swap deals technically don't exist; a 1for1 swap with no cash (like Sanchez for Mkhi) is recorded as two separate sales for identical fees (I think that was £30m each iirc). In your example Arsenal would sell Ramsdale for £35m and buy Bruno for £70m in two SEPARATE transactions. So no it doesn't affect FFP (although it does open the door to more clever accounting a la Juventus, but I CBA to do a full write up of that here).

Which I was bothered to explain 🤪 What if they sold Rambo for £1 and bought Bruno for £35m ! Sure they would make a lost of 14.4m ( the three yrs left of his original transfer fee, less bonuses which Arron won’t earn and he can ask for as a signing on bonus ) but they are saving 35m ( in the example given ) . A 35m transfer over a five year contract is only 7m a season ( plus salary of course) but it’s still a bargain. The true reason ( probably) swap deals aren’t done is agents fees .. most are based on the cost of the transfer so the higher they are the bigger the agent’s percentage is that he can charge the club(s) . Swap deal did get done before agents were ever a thing in football and they stopped when managers started to offer incentives to third parties to get a deal done because managers wanted the deal done asap so they could focus on the priority issue of training and winning games but know English clubs are adopting the European style of coach’s as apposed to Mangers maybe the football directors can do the deals and slowly we can rid the game of these parasites. Of course both FIFA and UEFA need to play their part and given their reputations for corruption dare we hold our breath !

Bad business again from Arsenal. Round figures, Raha 30mil. Rambo loss 15mil. That's a loss of 45 mil. Rambo is in my opinion better than Raha. Better to spend on the needed outfield players. Sorry to see Mo. going, he has had a lot of bad comments, but he has never let Arsenal down when called to pull on the shirt. Hope he gets a great send off. With partey, esr, vieira and elneny potentially leaving, we might end up with only 3 midfielders left. Do you really think that 1 midfield signing is enough? I would sign an 8, a 6, and a 10 who can play on the wing (Xavi Simons, Brahim Díaz, Mohammed Kudus etc.)

We don't pay with a 10. If we're signing a 10 it's so they can play in the frontline (LW/RW/ST) or as an 8.

Miracles do happen but sadly not tomorrow! Was there for the Aston Villa game in 1999 and remember it was the other lot at Old Trafford and when they went one nil up we were hopeful but I think relying on another London club like we are is just going to fall short again! Just hope Utd win the cup so we don’t have to go to the Community Shield again!! Whoever wins that trophy is jinxed for the league!!

My team for the final day: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabi, Zinny, Partey, Rice, Odegaard, Martinelli, Havertz, Saka. We'll have a lot of the ball and I think with Zinny and Partey in that box midfield with Odegaard and Rice, we'll kill Everton.

If Ramsdale has any ambition he would leave this summer after Arteta stabbed him in the back. There will be lots of clubs that will buy him, a good keeper can help win a club trophies and especially a lower PL side keep them in the PL
