Art is invention
A tangerine, a box, a sheet and the hand are objects that we draw and then construct signs that represent them. There is no way to draw a mandarin or a hand, there is a way to draw and the first fundamental thing we must do is build a sign, even before building a resemblance to the real thing. We have to build a relationship between reality and our drawing paper, with no other intermediary than our eye and our hand, build a sign first, apply yourself, have the necessary tenacity to be able not to guess what you have in front of you but to reconstruct it on your drawing paper and on your canvas. Art is above all invention.
