Just perfect, here in 2024 watching a song from 1984 being performed in 2004. Amazing.

It always amazes me how nonchalant Trevor Horn is about his incredible skill with a bass. He was playing and singing Video Killed The Radio Star in an other video and just nailing it. Harder than it looks. Man's got talent.

Holy crap, this should not be possible, live performances in studio perfection. Professional artists perform perfectly.

I saw them live in the 80’s and still love them and this song to today.

Like others have posted, I'm here to see a classic still beautiful tune from 1984. I was 28 when this dropped and this strange band with the most beautiful sounds graced my ears. Been a fan ever since. Yes, this is amazing. Going into my Favs for sure.

Just for the record that the most important thing in Art of Noise was Anne Dudley, she did orchestrations for all the music names ZTT label, she has been making classical, film music for a long time, I'm glad to see her here on stage

That drumming is insane..listening to the drums it sounds like it is in a constant uptempo..magnificent bass and awesome to see it live.🇦🇺👍

This piece meant so much to me as an arty kid back in 1984, especially this fused with Tony Hart. Art of Noise, and this track especially was a major influence on me love of music and making my own.

well this song still makes the hairs on my head tingle and stand on edge. never knew much about Trevor Horn, I know that he was in or produced the buggles I think that was the name of the group the song video kill the radio Star, I guess he was a member of the group Yes I remember the video one of the biggest videos of the time owner of a lonely heart if I'm not mistaken I guess he produced the whole bunch of songs but I had no idea that he was behind one of my favorite groups when I was in middle school I remember the first time I heard close to the edit a friend of mine Howard Hickman introduced me to it the same guy that introduced me to run DMC and my first and my most favorite run DMC song Rock box also he introduced me to Malcolm McLaren and Buffalo girls. but the art of noise was something really special to me I remember their remake of the Dwayne Eddy song I remember moments in love I never listened to quiet fire much which is an r&b thing late at night back in the day there's probably some stations that still have it I would imagine for people who listen to terrestrial radio but it was a stable along with the talking heads genius of love. anyway I can go on and on about the different songs from that era but what I would like to actually address is Trevor Horn and his bass playing he seems like what people would call a base prodigy but the thing with a lot of these bass players it seems as though they want to be guitar players and their base parts are like guitar parts but the thing about Mr Horn, and I'll know music scholar I'm no base scholar but it's space he's playing bass they are distinctive bass notes like this song close to the edit the baseline is a wonderful basie baseline it's beautiful there's no doubt that this is the base it is the bottom and there are a lot of notes but they are glorious bass notes they are bass notes that make your hair stand on edge it is a song that at the same time makes me smile and makes me nostalgic it brings me to tears when I hear it. I had no idea who Mr Trevor Horn was before like maybe 2 years ago but this man this unknown man to me actually made an impact he made a mark on myself and so many other people's lives in the middle 1980s up until now and I feel good and bad at the same time that I'm just now realizing some of his work I realize that his body of work is fast it's huge but instead of being someone like a lot of people favorite basis like flea from the Red Hot chili peppers that's out front out doing crazy antics and he plays the bass for face sake but it's more flamboyant whereas Mr Horn is not quite in the background never that but it's like an understated overstatement it's like that bass playing is so pronounced but it's clean it's not fuzzy there's no feedback it's true big clear bass notes I don't really know how to put it in words other than saying that it makes my hair stand on edge and just want to say thank you Mr Trevor Horn did you actually make me think back on my childhood and I smile and lol I want to cry at the same time. I always loved that line in the song to be in England in the summertime with my love. I never actually knew and I still don't know if she's saying close to the edge or close to the edit? lol someone please inform me I'm embarrassed to ask after all of these years but I can never quite make out the last word.

Awesome track for sure and great hearing it played live. I need to learn that bass line asap. Almost has me feeling though like someone is rushing but somehow it still all falls together.

I love this track. I didn't realize Trevor was so talented on the bass. I love how this track starts. Trevor is laying down the baseline and then the drummer kicks in and says let's kick it up five notches and kicks up the tempo and that makes everybody smile. That's sort of my favorite parts of this song. Trevor's like yeah bring it. Overall 10 plus

The music videos that were done back in the day never did this track justice. It's something that has to be experienced live to be truly appreciated. Trevor, Anne, and AoN were all spectacular!

Trevor Horn is friggin brilliant, one of the most prolific producers of the 20th century in my mind, you always knew precisely what to do - as one of my production influences, always was curious about what Tears for Fears would sound like if Horn had gotten ahold of them... Ann Dudley, as certainly a contributing factor, I had to remember just how many hits they had.

I loved the album - bought it back in the 1980s. I liked the whole album but Close to the Edit was my favourite track.

What a brilliant song and performance! Unfortunately wasted with such a dead audience. This deserves a much more appreciative crowd 😢 Had this been performed in Queens NYC the crowd would have gone absolutely nuts!

The whole show is amazing start to finish but pulling off Close to the Edit live is mind blowing.

Ok Here is the history of Industrial Music: 1. The first big Industrial worldwide band was COUM TRANSMISSION in 1969. Then, in 1970 the iconic Kraftwerk released their first album. Next Throbbing Gristle unleashed in 1975, I think. Then, I believe in the early 80s Rock It by Herbie Hancock, other Industrial innovators to mention, KMFDM, Cabaret Voltaire, Front Line Assembly, Front 242, Rammstein, Skinny Puppy, Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music", The Art of Noise blew the doors down with their massive hits like Beat Box, Moments In Love, Peter Gun Theme, and Close To Edit. Then Yello had a hit with a song called Oh Yeah, Next Nine Inch Nails did Industrial music with style. Then in the 2000s Lady Gaga's song Bad Romance. I may have missed somebody. But that covers most years.

If Trevor ever reads these I hope he realises how much of an influence the art of Noise have been on music. Also anybody reading this should check out the Rhythm Scholar remix of Close (to the edit) for one of the finest reworks that I've ever heard.
