Your portfolio is amazing! I'm now applying for Emily Carr as well, your explanation help a lot, thank you! About the works that you want to put multiple image in, I think you might want to put them in a PDF file and upload it as one piece, because it is possible to put PDF in the slideroom. One of my senior told me an easy way to make pdf, it's do it on a ppt/slides, and save it as pdf file. Again, your video and your portfolio are both awesome!

@@ziyizhangli5526 Yup you can join at any stage of your portfolio ! Maybe just give the person critiquing your work a rough idea of what your next art works will be like. When I went to NPD I had most of my main portfolio done but I hadn’t finished the prompts yet, I just told her that I was working on them and all was good !

Aw thank you so much and I’m glad you found this video useful ! When uploading to slideroom there is a special box beside the photo upload for your description, so no need to add it anywhere else.

Congratulations on getting accepted ! I’m so nervous of my portfolio at jan15. You video is help a lot for me. May I ask the question how do you answer the question “What makes a communication problem interesting to you?” I was confused of that.💦

Basically I just remember talking about people’s different perspectives on situations and how it’s interesting that we can have completely different outcomes to the same problem. But dw too much about the written stuff it’s more about hearing your voice and opinion, good luck !

I’m not entirely sure about photography since that’s not what I usually do but my best guess is the same, create diverse subject matters and concepts then you should be good !

I love your art! I’m currently preparing my portfolio to apply this year and I’m really stressed 😭 your video helped a lot! Thank u! But may I ask for your gpa, I’m wondering whether Emily Carr would consider the grade to be as important as the portfolio.

Thanks !!! From what I’ve experienced grades don’t matter much, you just need enough grade 12 credits to graduate and above 72 percent in English. ECUAD focuses primarily on the portfolio so just keep working on it and you should be good ! Good luck with everything 🤞

I’m honestly not very familiar with finding housing in Vancouver because I live at home but transit is really good here so you can look for places outside of Vancouver as well !

hi! your video is really, really helpful! i want to apply to Emily Carr, too, and I have a question for the third prompt (using 3 materials, build a model). so does the model have to be 3d? or can it be like, a model sketched on paper? (sorry if my question sounds stupid, but i'm really confused xD)

Hey thanks for commenting ! That’s a really good question that I actually don’t know the answer to, sorry 😢. My best guess would be to stick with something actually 3D or even some sort of digital 3D model. Then you can add all of your brainstorming and preliminary sketches to the final pdf

Hi, Recently i watched your video. It was very helpful the way you brief about the portfolio. I am also working on my portfolio for the same. Pls guide me about is the sculpture mandatory for the portfolio and for the conceptual art pieces do i need to follow any particular topics? Thanks and looking forward for your guidenace.

Hey thanks for the comment I’m glad my video could help you out a bit ! The 3 mandatory prompts might be different each year so definitely go to Emily Carr’s website and check. For my year one of them had to be a sculpture, other than that in the main portfolio you can put whatever work you like in !

Hey, love your portfolio! I did want to ask if I need grade 12 math (advance functions) and I also wanted to ask how many pieces in total do we need to have for the portfolio?

The website says that you only need a certain number of grade 12 courses plus grade 12 English so math isn’t necessary! In the slide room description it should tell you how many pieces you need !

Your portfolio is amazing…. ! I need to know something. I’m going apply emily Carr for the next July intake. The web site says the application deadline is 15 of January. I m going apply on the end of the December is it okay? I mean some are saying may be there is no space at the last dates of the application dates. Is that true? Do I need to apply early ?

I don’t know much about the July intake but as long as you submit your portfolio before the deadline you should be good. There’s no head start for people who submit early because from what I understand they only start looking at the portfolios after the deadline ends. Hope that helps !

Graphic design stuff is great ! The only reason my portfolio was more illustration based was because that’s what I’m more interested in. So as long as you have a diverse enough range of work, the school accepts anything ! Good luck with your application 🤞

Hi! Question, you said you worked on your portfolio for about a year, was that a year during high school or after? I’m basically asking if you went to emily carr straight out of high school or if you took time off to complete your portfolio.

I worked on my portfolio during high school and applied to ECU right after ! Because of the lockdown due to covid and online school, I had more time to work on my art.

Did you only submit one photo of each finished work? What should I do if I want to attach more images of details or photos from different angles? I'm not used to using slideroom so I am feeling a little stressed 😓 Amazing video btw! Thank you for sharing this with us

I only submitted one photo of each ( which I honestly wouldn’t suggest ) but some of my friends said that you can upload a multiple page pdf so you can include lots of angles and brainstorming. Hopefully this helps ! Good luck !

Can you submit an artwork inspired by another artist or does the count as plagiarism?

I’d try and keep your stuff as original as possible but if one piece is inspired by another artwork I’m sure it’s ok. Just make sure it’s strictly inspiration and there’s no copying.

I'm just now realising that I didn't put captions for my art 🙃I just wrote the titles. Maybe I didn't research enough?? I hope the results come out soon, I'm going to be stressing about this for months.

And for the project for "In three original images, tell us a story about yourself." In "Part 2: Process projects" do I create an art work of three stories in one piece or do I create three separate artworks?

Yup so you have to finish English 12 and 2 other grade 12 classes. I would check the ecu website again to confirm if they have to be academic courses or not. (I’m pretty sure they don’t have to be ) I took a lots of art classes, philosophy because it was interesting, bio because my counsellor messed up and told me I had to lmao and some other fun things

@@jehjwkwjbwuabw9402 If you want to apply after highschool then that’s when you submit your portfolio for the fall intake. Definitely checkout Emily Carr’s website and look at the requirements and mandatory highschool courses for international students. Good luck :)

From what I know the communication program doesn’t require drawing but in the foundation year there is some traditional art skills like sketching that everyone is required to do. But don’t worry because the teachers are super supportive and they don’t mark you on how “ good “ your work is, but how much effort you put into getting better.
