I opened commissions 4 times in the about 16 years I've been drawing, and only ever got one. Idk how people get too many commissions, I can't get any, I can't even sell any character I make and it seems no one is really interested in what I make. No joke I will draw something I am super proud of and I think looks good then once it's posted, it gets at most, 30-40 likes/faves and any comments I get are either bots, or the rare individual who thinks I didn't draw the picture or who has an issue with one part of it. I've actually quit art 3 times over this, cause I see someone new pop in and instantly get at least 100 likes/faves and tons of comments. Part of me thinks it's my art not being interesting enough, but another part of me thinks I just don't have any friends online to help encourage people to interact at all. Like, I want to let people get to know me, but it feels like no one is giving me the chance. The only thing that has been keeping me coming back to making art, is that I like to, and I like what I make, so I shouldn't let the lack of attention it gets let me down.

it’s difficult to gain popularity. i’ve been drawing seriously for around 5 years, and i still hardly have a following. i get a good amount of money from commissions, though, and i found that discord furry groups help with that. make sure you have examples and a price sheet! advertising frequently can get you a lot of commissions

@@yukii_artzz I have, actually just gave up entirely recently. I've been drawing and posting nearly every day on several sites for over 15 years, had a price sheet, tos and did advertisements where I could (places I had the biggest following on didn't even allow advertisement type posts.) also I just refuse to use discord cause I don't like it or it's creators personally. I got tired of sites making it harder and harder for artists to exist. The most interaction I got was at the beginning of amino, and even then i tried to do commissions and sell characters and ended up giving up on there and just traded away what I was trying to sell and then left because too many people were only complaining to me about pricing and asking for free art. My best post wasn't even any art, it was about making characters using sea slugs as inspiration. All my years of trying and I've only ever gotten one commission from someone online, I just have way more traction in real life, friends and family have commissioned me more even if they aren't too interested in my original works. I may try again at some point, but I really think it's not anything I could have known about, one time I learned people will avoid giving a follow to an account if it has less followers than they are fallowing, and now all I can think of is how I might just not be getting much interactions because of something silly like my username being hard to read/understand the joke of or because I don't stick to any specific style and my art seems inconsistent when it's just different styles for different characters and vibes, dumb things like that. I can't help but think that's it cause otherwise it's just that I'm somehow a very dismissible and invisible person, even irl people will often not hear/ignore me and even have forgotten I was there when I was actively talking to them. Idk, I just didn't wanna stress anymore about it so I gave up a while back.

I'm thinking about opening for commissions on Twitter but a part of me is scare to do it bc it is new to me and I'm afraid of messing something up like having bad communication, someone scamming me or my stuff isn't good enough among other things. My brain can be really mean to me sometimes. But once I get used to taking commissions I'll be ok.

The mental part is the hardest!!! It's understandable to be worried about communication You could take just one or two commissions just so that you could feel it out. You'll be okay!

The thing I out right hate the most from furs who take commissions be that an artist or fursuit builder that is lack of commission. Expecualy if there is a delay. If you know that you will not finish on time as soon as you know you will be delayed in delivery of what ever it is tell them and don't wait until the deadline had long passed.

I want to start taking commissions, but as I am still a minor 3 years from 18, I dont have a way to receive payment unless it is in the form of art trade or something, unless the person also lives where i do, but i dont feel comfortable giving out my address for that.

draw for fun or do art trades! Both are things you can do while still being under 18!
