More years ago than I can count I was assisting an art instructor of mine in planning a painting/drawing trip through France. She was taking about 6 students from the DC area to Paris, then south to the Montpellier region. This was before internet, really, or cell phones, so I was going old school - calling airlines for ticket fares, looking at paper maps and so forth. I was young, working in non-profit arts and newly married. My partner - and greatest cheerleader - said: Just go. We'll figure it out. So I did. I'll be forever grateful to him. It was a remarkable trip, sketching and painting my way through vineyards, medieval castles, lavender fields, town markets and a bit of coastline.

Hi. I just loved coming along on your holiday and seeing how excited you get. I always wanted to go to Egypt and meet Dr Zahi Hawass. I couldn't sleep one night, about 8 years ago and was on Facebook when an advertisement came through for a trip to Egypt with Dr Zahi Hawass. I decided then and there to enroll and spoil myself. It was my first trip overseas, and by myself but I loved every moment and met so many people I am still in contact with today. You always inspire me to do more. More art, more special trips and just be a bit spontaneous, even something small like drawing in public. Thanks so much for your videos

We are very careful with money - We don't go out often, I don't buy clothes or crazy retail therapy BUT we LOVE travelling and after 2 miserable years of COVID lockdowns we are FINALLY going to TURKEY in October for a holiday! Yeah! I love the idea of drawing things instead of just taking a quick snap - it keeps you there at the moment and as you said it makes you really concentrate on what you are seeing rather than what you THINK you are seeing - it is like an arty mindfulness moment! So I will be bringing a small sketchbook and pencil and maybe a very small watercolour palette. Your paintings were so delightful and I thank you and your sister and mum for helping you to create such a delightfu l post - We look forward to your next jaunt! Xx

My favourite trip was a day trip to Dubrovnik. We took a flight in the moorning from Zagreb, did a walk around the walls of Dubrovnik, went swimming for an hour, took a lunch and late afternoon went back home. It's my favourite day trip.

I really enjoyed this vlog. I am recovering from Covid. I had to cancel my holiday on the morning I was due to go because of a positive test. Anyhow your vlog meant that I could pretend I was on holiday. Its a truly lovely part of the world and your drawings and paintings capture it wonderfully

That's lovely! I went to Ravello many years ago with my sister, and it was stunning. I remember walking down through the lemon groves from Ravello to Amalfi....I also remember that church!

I would be in that beautiful water in a shot! Swimming, art, gardening - my loves! (As well as humans and my animals of course!) I would definitely get to Pompeii if I was in the area! X

Hubby and I just returned from Italy on the 8th. We were there for three weeks, spent a week on the Amalfi coast. I took loads of pictures to use for future paintings. Just have to get them organized. I did one quick painting of Capri as seen from our B&B. Such a beautiful place. And the lemon cream cake and limoncello!!! Thanks for sharing your trip.

@@SketchesnScrubs It was our second trip to Italy in 8 years. My husband's parents are both originally from Italy. This time, we were with another couple and explored parts of Tuscany and Umbria with a small tour group as a well as on our own in Amalfi. If you ever want to be part of an intimate tour experience (including some art tours) check out Strada Toscana. Great experiences and food. :) Learned so much. Didn't do as much painting as I hoped but wonderful.

Oh!! Amalfi Coast is beautiful place, I also was there, very nice. I am sure you had a very nice time and nice sketches too. When you have time go to Lake Maggiore .

Fun vlog! So nice to travel so spontaneously with your family! Amalfi coast is also still on my list to travel to. Seeing lemons on trees is such a funny thing! They have that here in Portugal also, but a lot of oranges or "laranjas" as well. It is such a fun thing to notice if you're not used to it. The number of times I stopped at a tree or even a whole field of them just to look at them I can't even count it anymore!

@@SketchesnScrubs oh I know, I watched that one.. and promptly checked our flights etc. Finding g a hotel was a time-consuming process so I gave up. Travelling solo isn't easy!

My favourite way to paint while travelling is without sketching first, I find it’s so much quicker for me and when I was in Venice I didn’t get the chance to complete a picture because I found sketching too hard, so now I’m a little more experienced I am looking forward to trying again next year

I love the Amalfi coast! I would love to go back. I really wanted to buy lemon house number tiles for my house when I was there, but I was out of money by then. 😅 We did get to see Pompeii, and that was amazing!! Looks like you had a great trip!!

I love how you clipped that water pot onto your board. I always enjoy your art travel vlogs. I'm impressed with how much artwork you were able to do on your trip - I never get as much artwork in as I want to or think I might... The area you were visiting looked amazingly beautiful. What an inspiration! Thanks for spending so much time editing this video for us - it was really great! I can't think of any relaxing time I have coming up, but that's okay. I love my day-to-day.

Wow that’s a wonderful trip to take with your family! Gorgeous sunny days, cool crisp evenings, great upgrades, and so many subjects to draw ✍️ & paint 🎨. Yes I definitely enjoy the travel blogs/vlogs that you do. Sounds like you’ve had a wonderful relaxing holiday. @@SketchesnScrubs Ironically she was the one who got me started with watercolor painting some 3 years ago. We’ve been talking, taking walks with her dogs (a Belgian Tervuren & a beagle mix), some watercolor painting together, and eating 🍽 out. She’s a Sheriff’s Deputy so we haven’t had a lot of fun time to spend together with the Pandemic. Thanks 😊.

so many gorgeous buildings to draw 😀 tours can be great but def annoying if you dont have a lot of time to paint I would love to treat myself to a trip to South Korea, but flights are so expensive

A time i treated myself that sticks with me is most likely the first thing i bought myself when i started working. It was my kindle. Sadly it got left in Japan accidentally but it definitely stuck with me ! 😄 your travel footage is beautiful - to be honest reminds me a lot of Gibraltar ^.^ thanks for sharing and loved the way you captured your travels with painting!

I am a fairly new subscriber to your channel. I visited the Amalfi coast several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed watching you enjoy the experience with your family. Looking forward to when l will be able to travel again and sketch this beautiful world of ours. Still getting over the fear of others watching while I sketch! Lol
