Vertical strokes for horizontal forms, interesting! You make painting look so easy... and you work so quickly and efficiently.I struggle with keeping a habit of painting every day or at the very least thrice a week, also the fact that I naturally work slowly and carefully, and worse still I'm a perfectionist (I often re-do parts of my painting, which is I think the biggest problem), my paintings usually takes AGES to finish. I'm really astonished at how painters could just whip up amazing detailed paintings in so little time. I wish I could do that too... Sorry for the ramble, I love this portrait. I really like all of your other portraits too. And your piano recordings too of course.

Mr. Barton, very interesting demo in stages of painting. Was your initial block- in, done in acrylic as you have done in past demos? The charcoal drawing in Step 2 was beautiful and a finished portrait on its own!! It also clearly sorted out lights and darks for your final painting. You have shown and I believe a main element in portrait painting is patience and perseverence.

Amazing Paul! Where are you get time to be super in so many things? Just playing piano will take people life time to get to fraction of your accomplishment. Are you sure you have only 24 hours a day??

+Paul Barton I have a question Mr Barton. I am learning Piano at home without a teacher. I am learning from some of the youtube channels which teach piano. Should I go to a Piano School or anything like this?

I think having an enthusiastic piano teacher for regular weekly or fortnightly lessons is always a good thing. A teacher can motivate you to practice. Swapping the piano stool back and forth with an experienced pianist and teacher is ideal because so much of learning is simply watching, listening and absorbing the piece you are learning being played by a teacher. So, if you can get a piano teacher, I'd advise you to do so. Good luck!

As with everything, practice is more important than talent. You just have to put some time into it

I think painting and drawing is not so very different to music, writing, architecture, film, and so on. They share the same essential components parts. You can learn about painting from playing piano, piano from painting or photography, and that goes for all the other related arts. Learning about art can help you visualize music, which can't be seen, and music can help you understand the abstract notion of expression in painting using a brush. Just like piano, certain styles of painting can be learned in steps. I spent 4 years, all day, every day, drawing and painting a model at art school. Although this might seem a lot of time spent doing just one thing over and over, looking back it was barely enough time. For me, the answer to your question, and that goes for just about anything you wish to do is … you just got to want to.
