🇫🇷 Alors qu’outre-Manche les mondes économiques et politiques sont plongés dans un marasme post-Brexit, celui de la musique se fait une seconde jeunesse. On ne compte plus en effet les groupes au son bien tendu qui font vibrer les jeunesses britanniques et irlandaises. Après Idles, Fontaines DC ou encore Shame, la perfide Albion nous régale ainsi depuis 2017 avec Squid.
Ce qui différencie Squid de ses petits camarades susnommés, c’est un son moins abrasif, plus en retrait. Un post-punk qui flirte avec l’electro, le krautrock, l’ambient et la cold wave. On sent aussi un peu de jazz sur certains morceaux du quintet, et pour cause : c’est à l’école de jazz de Brighton que les membres de Squid se sont rencontrés.
Grâce à ce style d’une incroyable richesse, on voit fleurir sur la Toile des articles intitulés "Squid va sauver l’Angleterre", "Le groupe dont le monde a besoin" ou encore " Squid, hérauts émancipés du post-punk britannique". Les cinq Britanniques seraient-ils donc les Avengers du rock ? Les champions de la musique indé ? Ils sauvent en tout cas la Route du Rock, remplaçant au pied levé des Viagra Boys contraints d’annuler à la dernière minute leur passage à Saint-Malo.
