The Artemis Fowl book is about a highly intelligent sociopath of a child who kidnaps and ransoms a newly discovered to humans species of intelligent life. The Artemis Fowl movie is about a highly unintelligent sociopath of a director who murders beloved book properties.

There's bastardizing the source, like the Percy Jackson movies, and then there's literally invalidating the entire premise of the book franchise, as Artemis Fowl somehow managed to do. He's supposed to start off as this diabolical spoiled rich brat, but then evolve into this genuinely well-meaning kid as he questions his own actions, and it becomes readily apparent that he wasn't *born* evil, he's just misguided from a lack of parental direction from his upbringing in a completely dysfunctional crime family. His father is missing, and his mother is bed ridden and doesn't even recognize him, at times mistaking him for his father, and at other times seeing his face and screaming for help because there's an intruder in the house. He starts off believing in fairies and magic FROM THE BEGINNING, almost as if it's a desperate escape from an otherwise painfully cruel and boring world. Now, if you were to run that rough one paragraph summary through google translate and back, then badly plagiarize it while wearing a blindfold, you'd still have something more coherent than this movie. They couldn't even get Holly Short's character correct, almost entirely undercutting her story about being the first female Fairy on the LEP (Fiary Police) and being under tremendous pressure- You'd think in woke 2020 they'd at least take an opportunity to sneak something in about sexism in work force, but I suppose that's too difficult of a subject for children to understand. "All children are 1 dimensional cardboard cutouts who are not capable of questioning themselves and experiencing emotional growth!" -Disney

@David-gj9qr

Yeah tbh I don’t understand why this series is called quest for the best. The only reason I clicked on the video is because I was confused on why “Artemis Fowl” would be on a video called “the quest for the best” because of how bad it is. A series called “the quest for the best” sounds like a series where he watches the top rated movies on IMDB or Metacritic and reviews all of them or at least the top 100 to find the best one. I can kind of understand why this is called “the quest for the best” because he is trying to find the best out of the movies he’s seen recently but still a little misleading

Hideyoshi Kinoshita I’m pretty sure thats because it fits into the so bad it’s good genre. It’s not good by technical means, but it’s funny, entertaining, and not really meant to be a filmmaking masterpiece. It’s achieves what it sets out to do and that’s what makes it good. I’d rather watch a so bad it’s good movie than a boring/bad big budget movie. In comparison to the other movies on the list it’s good cause it’s actual worth a watch.

I’ve never actually read an Artemis Fowl book but sometimes, when a novel gets a movie adaptation, it usually becomes bad because the depth of the entire novel was removed from the movie because, movies don’t take that long...Maybe if they made it into a Netflix series, it would’ve at least been a little bit better and less stressful for the development team.

It's fine for Directors to have creative freedom with a film and adaptations aren't completely beholden to their source material in many cases. That being said, the extent that Kennith interacted with the books was him pissing on them and seeing the word "fairy" while he did it. It's even worse than Percy Jackson. If you're going to reflavour the story then fucking do a good job at least. Artemis is the bad guy in the first books, the reader (these books were aimed at young adults btw) understands that, and can still enjoy Artemis's character and understand his motivations. Kennith thought that people wouldn't be able to connect with Artemis? What utter bullshit, the books sold millions of copies. They sucked the character out of these Characters making them watered down facades while removing all motivation and agency from them and trying to tell 2 books worth of story at once. It really can't be hard to retell a book in movie format, just tell the same fucking story, and hit the key points. Feels like so many directors have their heads up their own arse that they have to inject their shitty visions on to stories that have proved themselves good and already work.

I think the reason why the movie changed Artemid so much is because for some reason it's not ok to like villains any more,you eaither have to hate them or the "villain" is actually a anti hero or they'er sympathetic. Quote from Kenneth Branagh regarding the Artemis Fowl adaptation: "It was a decision based on a sort of inverse take on what I saw in the books, which was Eoin introducing Artemis gathering a sense of morality across the books. He said that he had him preformed as an 11-year-old Bond villain. It seemed to me that for the audiences who were not familiar with the books, this would be a hard, a hard kind of thing to accept." The worse part when someone messes up a book when making it into a movie is the fact that now that a movie was made on it and the movie failed its likely that the series will never be touched again. On Artemis Fowl: "You can just tell by the way the story is structured that it's not meant to be told this quickly" Yeah spot on there mate, I haven't watched it but from reviews it seems like they've gone for the second book plotline, with the first book character development and technology. Also, as revealed at the end of the last book, if anyone in the book is telling the story of Artemis Fowl, it would be Holly. Like, the last few lines of the last book are her saying the first few lines of the first book out loud. And I can't believe they bastardised the Butler vs the Troll fight (from book 1) like that. Well, I can believe it, but I'm not happy about it. "It just annoys me when they take these books that people care about and then they just shit all over them." Yeah tell me about it, Artemis Fowl was my favourite series age like 12 & 13, I hate seeing what they've done to them

I read the Artemis Fowl books *because* I saw that trailer for Artemis Fowl. I really enjoyed them, but then, after I finished the series, I revisited the trailer. It seemed totally not canon and inaccurate. For example, Artemis finds out his father is captured by the Russian mafia. In the movie, he’s captured by the fairies? Then the movie came out. What a terrible representation of the book. For anyone considering reading the books, the movie does not accurately represent the movie. This is awful. The books are great.

The Artemis Fowl movie is completely different. Instead of being a school boy who just finds out his dad is a criminal, he's a kid who posions someone so that he can give them information in exchange for an antidote, in the first chapter. He's not a nice person. In the first book, he's not trying to save his dad. He's just trying to make a bunch of money. The movie still uses his plan to get out of the time stop, except it never explains it so it's not satisfying at all.

If you got a chance I'd highly recommend reading the books for Artemis Fowl. I read them in middle school and they're still my favorite after many years. The story is much more fleshed out, mature, you fall in love with the characters, and it has amazing world building. The movie did the whole everything dirty. Idk why they even bothered to make it and had it had a theatrical release, it would've been an embarrassment to Disney. The movie stinks.
