White boy from Ohio (1987) and was blessed enough to live in a mixed family. I have 5 little brothers. We share the same American mother but father left when I was 2. My step dad growing up was Mexican. (Fun fact, Rodolfo is the only man I’ve called Dad. 3 of my brothers are his son and of course we share the same mother. Rodolfo was my Superman. He never obtained citizenship but he lived and worked and raised another man’s kids in this country for 30+ years. I ask you. What’s more American than working hard and raising a family?? God bless rodolfo and the Mexican community. The hardest working folks on gods green earth. Not to mention their phenomenal music!!! This was always on the radio growing up.

I'm German/Polish and my dad played accordion professionally. (He also tried giving me lessons, which didn't work out too well... lol) He played gigs up into his 80's but finally his full size accordion (41 keys on the right hand and 120 buttons on the left hand) got too heavy. We tried to get him to switch to a "button box" like these gentlemen are playing but... old dogs, new tricks. I love polkas, but being in California they are few and far between, but mariachi accordion music is a great substitute. btw, Flaco has played with the Mavericks a lot, check it out.

Rey C - For the Cumbias you can thank the Colombians. Cumbias weren’t even originally played with accordions, it was the influence of Vallenato that brought the accordions to Cumbia. Of course Colombia also got the accordions from Germany, but the Germans didn’t teach Colombians how to use them like how they taught the Mexicans/Texans, Colombians made their very own style with them.

Many memories when I lived in Edinburg Texas back in 1975 now reside in California but still have family all over the Rio Grande Valley since we back since 1800’s we have a private cemetery in El Azadon, Texas near La Villa Texas. Miss those days but now it is very different so many families from Mexico nothing bad towards them but it was safer back then we could leave our doors unlocked not anymore. Our legends will be gone before we now it. I have 500 cd’s of all our legends I will leave them to our son.

Sportshead9508 Country music comes from Tennessee and Tejano music comes from Texas. But i understand what your trying to say. Its that feel good, old school vibe we get from it just like country music.
