The camaraderie between Jim Bowie (Sterling Hayden) and Mike the Bull (Ernest Borgnine) along with Max Steiner's theme for Mike the Bull's character is wonderfully entertaining.

the only thing wrong with this movie is not showing the Alamo mission itself.....only at afar for a few seconds the morning the 185 men went inside the Alamo walls.

When Davy went to say goodbye to Bowie, he said, "Davy.....If them Mexicans get over that wall , they will have this place sheet rocked in an hour." Davy replied, they'll eat snakes to get in here."

Deleted Scene: Crockett comes into room to say good bye to Bowie. As he was leaving, Bowie said to him, "Davy...if them Mexicans get over that wall they'll have this place sheet rocked in an hour." To which Crockett replied, "They'll eat snakes to get in here."

186 years ago, the rebel fortress, the Alamo, fell to Mexican federalist forces. It was and is a GREAT Mexican victory! Nice to see that Texas celebrates a Mexican victory!

In 1897 in Afghanistan there was a similar stand off, 21 Sikhs vs. 10,000 Afghans called the Battle of Saragarhi, both where all the defenders held on till the last man.

@@55Quirll Yes, it seems it was a one day battle. Close to 180 Afghans were killed by the 21 Sikhs; they did good. However, their reasons to fight were more noble that the Alamo defenders, who invaded north Mexico, where they met their deaths.

@rogerborroel4707 Yes, you are correct. Sadly, it was a mexican victory. But REAL Texans don't celebrate that battle. Once a year, March 6 is a day of remembrance, for our Texan pioneers and HEROES that bravely fought off a tyrannical murderer and his huge army. The Texan celebration actually happens every April 21, celebrating Sam Houston's defeat of Santa Anna and the mexican army at San Jacinto. Since you brought up celebratory events in Texas, what is ridiculous is that us folks from Texas celebrate a mexican battle victory over France every year on May 5.
