The most underrated, and underappreciated artist of the 'Sixties, despite the undeniable Forever Changes album, Arthur Lee would only release one more album (and leave one in the can) in the 'Seventies, the forgettable Reel to Real. I saw the original band, at the Whiskey, in '66, and the new group, at Newport '69.

I saw this lineup perform this song at the Eastown Theater in Detroit in 1970. George Suranovich caught my attention, because he was the most precise drummer I had ever heard, and I had heard the best of the drummers of that time. During the performance he was wearing a vintage Yellow Taxi uniform hat. George Suranovich died in 1990 at the age of 45 of a heart attack. It certainly wasn't from lack of exercise.

For many years Love were no more than a cult. I first heard Alone Again Or in 1982 and fell in love with Love. As many have already posted Four Sail is vastly underrated. But all of their first albums are classics. Love should have been much bigger then they were, but for various reasons Arthur did not want to leave LA to tour or play the promotional game. The influence of Love has grown in importance over the years. The fact that they are Robert Plant's favourite band or that all of the Doors were in total awe of the band says it all.

Well worth getting - lots of conversation with Arthur and other band members. I was given a copy recently by Start Productions who made the film. To my shame I was completely ignorant of Love until then - even though I've been a musician since the late 60s - just how did I miss out on such a genius? It's been great catching up though!!!

They held their own at the Fillmore East between Allman Brothers and The Dead. If you were there you still remember the Greatness of all of them. Dwayne, Berry, Jerry, Pigpen all on the stage at once.
