I have a lot of frustration and anger in my life right now. Am watching this over and over again. I used to have a piano years ago. Was able to play this passionate piece. Sure was/is an excellent stress reliever.

@@damoonfarzi Thank you for your very thoughtful kindness! Update: I've been fortunate to have found and bought an electric Yamaha piano at a really good price... from a neighbor! Have been rapidly regaining my playing ability in the last month. My God. It is a great therapy for anyone who has pent-up, built-up, burdensome emotions. Playing an instrument can really lift one's spirits in a healing big way! Thanks again for reaching out with your very special care! Appreciate it.👍

Thank you! I'm gonna date myself by saying that when I was a teenager I had the opportunity to see/hear Rubenstein live in concert. This was his encore piece (as I think it frequently was). It's great to hear it again and watch him play. Thanks for posting!

I knew and performed with Arthur Rubinstein when in the Solti/CSO with Arthur Rubinstein as our Guest Piano Soloist in the Opening Season Subscription Concerts and knowing his very close friend, also my friend in Europe, I said little yet when the Maestro invited me to offer my opinion on the Piano he was to perform on for the Concert, conducting a sort of "Test" playing the same passages on both No. 1 and No. 2 Piano's, listening most carefully & being the Violinist Daughter of Arnold Schoenberg's Pianist with Leonard Stein, for Arnold Schoenberg's UCLA Advanced Classes in Theory: Form & Analysis w/Top Orchestral Structure and Composition, also Professor Schoenberg's T.A. {Teaching Assistant} of 2 Years, circa 1938-1940, graduating with Honours from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Degree, I knew Piano Sound from the pearled sounds Mother always made, loving Rubinstein, and when A. R. asked me for my opinion, although a bit shy, I did offer my genuine choice of Piano No. 2 being much more welcoming to his pearled sound and loving the ivories & opposed to Piano No. 1 which was a bit inflexible to which Maestro Rubinstein said: "Ah, Elisabeth dear, your choice is exactly what I was going to select and I would like to invite you and your husband to dine with me after tonight's concert!!" I had to tell the Maestro I had to check with my just married hubby, and asked after doing so, "Maestro, due other commitments, I am deeply saddened to ask if You might give us a Rain Check??!" The Great Rubinstein looked me right in the eye very kindly saying, "But Of Course!" He was a rare charming gentleman full of life and vital love for Music and his sharing of it with All who would listen! The Person of Arthur Rubinstein, mirrored the Artist and Artistry of one of the GOAT Pianists for Centuries past and in the Future to come!! This rare Person who gave The World immense joy through the Music he deeply loved throughout his lengthy wondrous Life of 95 years ... AR's de Falla is beyond Wonderful!! It reflects the young in his possibly mid 50s Vigour and strength yet balanced offering of a remarkable piece for Grand Pianists of which He was King! 'In Memoriam' ~ Grand Rubinstein ~ Elisabeth Matesky, "Apostle" of Jascha Heifetz (1 of 7 Orig Jascha Heifetz Violin Master Class pupil's); 1st private self-proclaimed "Guinea Pig Heifetz Pupil" of Nathan Milstein, 3.5 years in London, Nathan Milstein Assist, Only Peer of Jascha Heifetz and deeply Blessed ... If you think Phillipe Entremont plays the Ritual Fire Dance better than Arthur Rubinstein you're full of boloney.

It says Allegro ma non troppo Cheerful but not too much. He played this way too fast! It's not a race to get to the end. This was for a ballet. I much prefer Phillipe Entremont's version of it! Too many pianists get the tempo wrong. And what's with his hands flying up in the air? {eyeroll} He looks ridiculous.

That's showmanship, I guess. And you notice he alternated hands with the trills and messed up deFalla's written dynamics. Screw the composer--just make it all look good. It's more about Rubenstein that about deFalla.

He was born in the 19th century, it was typical back then to have your hands go up in the air while playing. Watch Hofmann, Paderewski, Hambourg, they all do the same.

@@toucc9638 But you're right. The 1800s style of playing included many liberties with the original--tempo changes, gross crescendos and diminuendos, accents that aren't there, gigundous retards, equally gigundous accell\erandos--al in the interest of "interpretation." It was as characteristic of 1800s players as the dry puritan, "stick-to-the-ursatz" pluperfect correctness of many 1900s performers.
