தமிழில் ஒரு என்பதை மெய்யொலி பெயர்ச்சொல் லுக்கு முன்பாகவும் , ஓர் என்பதை உயிரொலி பெயர்ச்சொல்லுக்கு முன்பாகவும் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்பதே இலக்கண விதி. ஒரு மரம், ஓர் அணில். இதுதான் ஆங்கிலத்தில். 'A' before consonant sound ( not before consonant letter) and 'An' before vowel sound.( not before vowel letter ) A boy , A union. An apple, an hour.

It never means that spoken language needs no grammar. The deviation in wide prevalence (if any), howsoever it may be, can never be discarded so easily. Even slangs are upheld as inseparable parts of a language by eminent scholars in linguistics as NATIVITY IS CONSIDERED NOT ONLY PURE BUT ALSO DEMONSTRATIVE OF ITS CURRENT EVOLUTION AS WELL AS SANCTITY.

A noun used in singular becomes a common noun in English In such circumstances no article is required. However article is required to denote the common. For example "dog is an animal" here dog shouldn't be prefixed with article. 'Dog is faithful ' is incomplete. It may be 'dog is a faithful animal' This is exactly so in Tamil also

Well! You are talking of generic usage of the definite article.
