Modifier collections is a great idea because that could also help you manage modifiers in a mode userfriendly way when you got many of them. Create collection, name it, throw in modifiers, close it and forget them with a much cleaner modifier stack :)

Maybe Geometry Nodes is a more suitable method for more complex arrangements?

ND by Huge Menace is a decent workflow enhancement. It offers a new way of performing a non-destructive approach to modeling. It takes some getting used to and there are a lot of videos on how to use it. Overall the fact that it is free shows the dedication to the community the add-on authors have. I eagerly wait for your video on it!

Yeah I think its great. To me I would say it doesn't have to be a new approach, its an extra tool set you can use if you want to.

I am frozen in time with version 3.6.12 for the moment, will try new versions when needed, still good that they are improving it, sometimes.

3.6 is Lts, so thats not bad.

@@Dead_Last I am using Steam installation for Blender so it is possible to update to new version or just to the last stable version of the one I have now, so I can also install a new version of Blender independently (not with Steam), like 4.2 and try it while keeping the old working version with the working addons I like. Some changes on version 4 I didn´t like so I will stick to 3.6 for a while.

3.6 is good. Enjoy. I waited til recently to update to 4.1 and I wish I could say it’s been smooth and feels solid. I’ve wasted a lot of time tracking down problems, troubleshooting.

Currently I still stick to the 3.6 LTS version of blender. Cause I’m afraid, that some of the quality of life addons I use won’t work properly with blender 4.1.) The only thing I miss from 4.1 is that really hot snapping funktion with „B“.)

you can try the CAD transform or quicksnap addons for 3.6 to get similar snapping features.

@@jeffellis1149 Yeah, I also had some problems to use that initially. But now it works so smooth for me. You have to look out for those orange symbols which appear after pressing b.

Modifier collections: that would be great. ND: one of the best addons I've discovered over the years. I've been using it for about 2 years now, and they've added a lot of functionality since I first started using it. That was something I was dreading, because this "more and more" made HOps/Boxcutter and Fluent too cumbersome for me to get back into. I only do hardsurface modelling occasionally, and if I only use an addon every few weeks, I don't want to waste hours getting to know it again. That hasn't happened with ND so far, and I hope it stays that way. A few minutes of playing around with ND and I'm back in the flow, which is great. No, it's not as powerful as HOps or Fluent, but it's more than enough for the things I do. Since I found ND, I have never gone back to these other addons. Small tip for new ND users who also use the F2 addon: maybe change the keyboard shortcut for the Fast Predict menu in edit mode. It is set to F by default, I changed it to Shift+F.

I think you should release an Artisans of Vaul theme for 4.2. That way your viewers could use your exact settings when following along. Of course, this won't help with Cavity and other non_theme settings, but it will help!

I kinda like that the (previously) included addons are no longer shipped with Blender and that they need to be downloaded. Will keep the Blender download a lot smaller, plus you can simply install and activate the ones you want, rather than having them all installed by default. Will also mean that if they decide to update a particular addon like Rigify for example, they’ll be able to release that updated version straight away, rather than having to hold it back until the next Blender release.

I won't be using it that much until the full release but I like to play around with the Beta versions.

ND is not really included in 4.2 it's just that all add-ons on the blender extensions site can be downloaded from blender directly.

Ah, that's a good point. Maybe I should phrase it that it's clearly marked as a possible part of the Blender ecosystem and it makes it easier to find.

Yeah, I thought it was odd that it was just "pin to last" I would have liked a "stay at bottom" and a "stay at top" option at least, but collections would be even better.

Best way forward would have been to just have a "Pin in Place" function, really. So the modifier just stays where it is in the stack and the others have to shuffle around it. And any others you pin. But this at least fixes the Smooth by Angle/auto smooth controversy that plagued 4.1.

The reason there is no "pin to first" is because when you add a modifier, you always get them added to the bottom (now, just before pinned). You have to do changes manually to mess up the order at the top of the modifier stack. Hope this helps with the logic of why they chose not to add a pin to top.

Some programs/addons make interpretations based on what modifiers are on the stack so it would be nice to control that.

A better interface might be a button in the modifiers that says "unbake and rebake all GNs in the stack." One click to make sure everything is updated. You wouldn't normally leave the Bake turned on once you're done working on the GN node group, would you?

I don't think that would work. You might want different stages and a node after each stage to make things manageable on particularly large node setups. Being able to pick and choose where the bake points are would be important.

@@ArtisansofVaul For sure. But in that case, you already have the node editor open, right? I was thinking more "why don't the other changes in my configuration update the results?" Or am I confused? If you update something in the modifier pane that has already been baked, does it cause the change to happen? I mean, it would *work*. It just wouldn't necessarily be most efficient. Obviously it has to be capable of being calculated from scratch.

@darrennew8211 So what would be good is to set up the modifier panel for the GN in order and put in bake nodes at intervals. That way you don't need the node editor open.

So I think Evee is one of the things with big changes so it may be that elements of those projects may need reworking. But rendering/animation isn't really by thing so Im not too sure on those aspects.

I generally haven't had many issues. Most of the addon creators are pretty quick to update them.

Some add ons make assumptions and move modifiers around the stack so it would help there. But if you don't use them thats fair.

Don't want to have to download add-ons, not everyone has access to highspeed internet access. Very disappointing.

Thats fair. But then it means when you download Blender you can get that faster. Seems to equal out to me as you only need to install them once at a point you do have internet access.

By these replies, I can tell you all don't know what it's like to travel 80 miles round trip to get a high speed internet connection, just to keep up with all the frickin updates and programs you need to stay current in the modern world. So you will explain it some more, I'm just a random an Idot that knows nothing...

@Mounir_ALSAYED 😅 That's probably because I have a slight stutter, so I have to constantly think as I speak. I also need to think about my voice volume that close to a microphone so it doesn't have sound issues (I have a rather loud voice) 😅

4.2 is a rocker... devs. and community nailed the hard work of features and creat amazing milestone, so much to explore.💪💥🗯🔥💭❤💨🕊 P.s. I love the new Khronos tone mapper addition.. and the new add on for SDF modelling thats hopfully will be soon released & the ND add on & Evee , okay & the animation action extension, & the evolving node system & tools.. & atribute paradigma chance ...&..... &........ etc. etc. etc. .
