Kicking off a yearlong series of public programs celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of MATRIX was this conversation between artist Peter Doig, who was featured in the MATRIX program in 2000, and Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson, MATRIX curator from 1999 through 2005.
Peter Doig was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is currently based in Trinidad, West Indies. MATRIX 183 Echo-Lake was his first one-person museum exhibition in the United States. Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson is currently director and chief curator of the Aspen Art Museum.

Great interview, Doig is so humble and unpretentious. Obviously really lives for his paintings rather than the fame and show boating opportunities that is often craved by other contemporary artists.

Peter Doig is my favourite painter. Of course, sometimes it is better to watch paintings and don't listen explanations. But not bad talk. I like it got a lot of interesting information

Richie Cohen, an outspoken esteemed Aspen community member for over 40 years, was banned from the Aspen Art Museum by its CEO Heidi. Wait, it gets better. The museum leases its space from the City of Aspen and is currently located on a public park. Richie is also over 70 and on oxygen.* [*For documentation, see Aspen Law Incident Report #4456: "Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson, the Aspen Art Museum director, requested that police advise Cohan [sic] that he is not welcome on the lot located at E Hopkins/S Spring. Zuckerman-Jacobson also asked that I meet with her her... I assigned Officer [Terry] Leitch to locate Cohan and advise that he is not allowed on the Museum...." ] LOL: Isn't an art institution is supposed to be about freedom? Regardless, what kind of an arts organization bans senior citizens on oxygen anyway?

He's so patient and dignified despite her dumn questions. She obviously doesn't paint or is, at best, a very poor painter. The question about Turner?! Really?! At I learned something from where it lead him - the remark about the painter who paints a landscape, those who paint the feeling of a landscape and those who paint the concept of a landscape
