Welcome to my journey back into plein air painting. In this art vlog I share the prepwork, paintings and some of my thoughts as I get back to painting outdoors and in a looser way in general. I think it's good to reflect on experiences and shifts within our art practice or creative work. This is just the start and I'm hoping to make some great work in the next few weeks as I paint at different locations. It's a great way to let go of the need for control all the time and enjoy what comes out of a moment and the nature around us. To slow down and smell the roses 🌹 or the geese poop around our feet while we paint 😂 It's all a part of the process, enjoy!
I'm always trying to embrace nature, even if it's just watching the birds from my studio windows. I feel connected to life and the present then, I think a very necessary thing for any kind of artist.

A covered palette is a great investment for saving paint, and keeping dust out of colors! There's nothing more irritating than picking hairs off the painting surface or off the end of a brush! We love the variety of surfaces and materials rendered in this painting, BTW- great job on the shiny reflections!

What I find inspiring about your videos is how you share your everydat life as well as your musings into your painting and creative process. One can very much relate. I love those little paintings you did; my favorites are the one in grayscale and the dock with the pond. The color scheme in the latter reminds me of some of Anders Zorns' paintings of ponds and rivers. BTW I see you guys have Canada geese also. We have a whole colony of them here in the Summer; when they're all swimming in the river I call them the longships as they look like viking ships from afar. Cheers!

I have thought about your comment and the mention of Anders Zorn for days now. It shifted my perspective on the final piece I made. I really do enjoy sharing bits of my life, I think it helps show the context of being an artist. Longships, I like that, it's definitely accurate! 😂

I also loved this - along with taking your time while there are other things to do / when life wants to force you to move on...staying in that moment is like a middle finger to it 🤣LOVED it!

Such beauty in a simple life and that also reflects in your art. That lovely eye and feel for composition that you have turns the everyday scenes into such interesting worlds. Loving all that detail in your large work. I used to only paint with oils but have moved to acrylics to avoid solvents so its great to watch you use them. Great video, thank you 😊👍

Thank you! I appreciate that, composition is very important to me, it never feels easy though 😅 I also like acrylic for that reason. Even just the smells of solvents/oil paint can be too much. Any medium can be used for great work right :)

Hey Maria, this was so lovely to watch and super interesting to see how your plain air classes work. Loved seeing how you view the outdoors and what you decided to paint. I especially loved the two painting with the benches. Something about those two scenes just makes me feel like breathing in deeply. Thank you again for sharing your process, I hope that it is going well and that you are most importantly - having fun. :) Ps. Loving the round table and chairs on the balcony!

Thank you so much Irene, I'm happy you liked the paintings, I was feeling pretty down about them actually. I'm having lots of fun painting and being outside though! :) Now that balcony just needs a few more plants!

I love how you talk about your progress and journey . The plain air works look great but also the proces of your larger work is interesting , is this one in oil or do you always work with acrylics ? Thanks for sharing as it is always nice to see how other artist approach their work .

Thank you Debora! I think it's useful to share that journey. Currently, I'm using acrylics, this one included. Happy to hear you enjoyed both types of work!

How long does it usually take you to finish a painting?
@mariasisul

Depends on the size. A few days for a small plein air piece. Or 4-6 weeks for my studio paintings including planning and preparation. But I'm not painting everyday.
