perfect residency for me would be a cabin on an island surrounded by nature with a lot of time to create 😀

There are lots of residencies out there like that! Or as a few artists I know do, use an Airbnb in the woods as a residency :)

using an airbnb is a good idea to use as a residency and if i ever could afford to do it would have enough room for hubby to come to 😀

I miss our residencies so much 😫. I also got all those photos recently and it’s been hard to not know when we can do it again!! As always love your video, love your content! One thing I’d like to add to your list is that some artists will look for a residency that gives them a very specific space/equipment. For instance sculptors, ceramicists, glass artists, printmakers, paper makers , some textile artists and even photographers might all be looking to do residencies to have access to specific equipment to make their projects happen. :) Also some places mandate you make work about the place you are visiting specifically like some museums and world heritage sites. So always important to read the fine print 😊.

I knowwww 😭 I hope once the “panini” is over, we can find a new residency!! Or you can at least come to my studio and we make a residency here 😂 All good points! There’s SO many different types of residencies. I’m convinced if an artist is looking for one, they will find it. (Except maybe if it’s a residency on the moon 🌙 but ya never know 😂)

Very informative. I'd do a residency just so I could be around other artists mentors and learn from them but first I'd have to go back to college get my degree do a portfolio..lol...mikelle ny mom👩‍🎨🎨

Hope your area did okay with the sereve weather all around the east coast area....I was hoping weather front would turn a bit our way toward western ny as we need rain.

Our area flooded quite badly, but our home is on a hill so we are fine. But a lot of the neighborhood got hit hard. :(

Just got my first artist residency and am very excited!! Would love your thoughts on residencies that require the artist to pay for the space vs. Free or paid.

Congratulations :) I hope you LOVE it!! My thoughts would depend on the specifics of the residency itself. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with any of them. It’s all up to what the artist gets out of it. Are you accomplishing what you wanted to? Do you want to meet a network of fellow artists, get an exhibition or just have time to work in a space/location you desire? It’s all about setting your own expectations. And just to be clear: Don’t let anyone tell you your residency is “lesser than” because you paid to do it. If it helps you meet your goals as an artist then it’s a worthy investment :) Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for your video, but being Egyptian and upper intermediate not having fluency in English, I am wondering if I could apply for a residency for portrait artists in US or UK ?!!!

Hi Samer! Thanks for watching 😊 I’m sure you could find a residency in the states or UK. Theres so many different types of residencies out there! Once accepted, you would just need to apply for the appropriate visa for the length of time you’ll be there. Good luck!
