From Leo: I am glad they put a full sized speaker in it. Too many lower wattage amps come with a table radio sized speaker that seems to really stifle the sound.

I liked that bit of slide playing Shane! Well done. Haven't heard you play slide much. This little amp has a great sound to it. It's good having a simple amp setup, as you can control things more from your guitar and pedalboard.

The 6L6 output valve also means you've got a home for orphaned 6L6s when one of a pair craps itself in a bigger amp like a Fender Hotrod. The bereaved 6L6 can live out a fruitful life in this single-ended amp for the remainder of its days.

No overdrives, etc. It sounds like I hear reverb. Were you going through a pedalboard/what was in the chain? Was an EQ pedal part of the mix/did you eq the tracks after? Nice sounding amp, but IME amps with such a simple EQ section require some type of eq either before or after. Would love to know if that is the case here, because the amp sounds great. BTW, that is not a negative; there is a reason we use pedals.

Man, that lead tone from your Strat and pedalboard was incredible! Don’t think I’ve ever seen these in the USA but since a lot of these brands are moving stateside I’ll keep my eyes peeled. Fantastic demo as always, Shane!

They are available in the USA now. I believe on Reverb? And they are really cheap and not to shabbily built.

I wish that amp makers would put the vent behind the tubes and a back door behind the speaker magnet. It would sound better and cool or vent the hot tubes/valves much better I’d think? Price is nice on these for certain!

All you have to do it unscrew the back cover and turn it 180 degrees and screw it back on. All screws line up . Problem solved

Safety regulations mean that people can’t be allowed to touch hot valves, or contact anode high voltage supply if a tube glass breaks

Toy Caldwell was one hell of a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. My brother use to write songs with George McCorkle in Nashville until his untimely death. He found out he was I’ll and within a few months he had passed on. They were best friends. The OG band could blow any major act off of of the stage. Spartanburg SC finest.

Look forward to the 12 & 20 Tweedie review. I have the ATT20R and it is my best all round amp. Given a choice of only one, the Artist 20R would be it. Tried the 12 in store and it is a gem along with the 5 and 20. Get them all I say.. 😛

Very nice little amp, i appreciate all your hard work in making your videos. I find them informative and useful especially the best and worst of the year.. you do it in a way that doesn't over hipe or belittle the company you just give a fair and honest opinion of the item you demo not to mention your blues rock! It's awesome and affordable. Lack of reverb isn't an issue. I'd be putting a compressor and an analogue delay in front of it and be very happy.

Definitely nails the Marshall Tucker band sound. I'm pretty sure that for negative feedback to produce a clean and bright sound, it would be increasing the NFB, not limiting it. I've modified scores of Blackface deluxe reverbs for earlier break-up by reducing the NFB, which also rolls off some of the highs. I'd love to see the schematic of this amp, because I'd wager that they put a NFB loop into that channel, and don't have it at all for the normal channel, like a Vox AC30 or Fender Tweed. Or they could just have an on/off, although the presence control is tied in with the NFB. I really dig this

The negative feedback loop is enabled in the normal position. NFD position is for negative feedback defeat.(no negative feedback) there is a video on youtube with the designer of this amp explaining this. Worth a watch. Looks like a great amp

@@intheblues being made in China clearly helps cost wise. It seems tube amps are not done yet despite the predictions of their demise after the cut off of Russian made tubes...

The TWEEDTONE20R is a much better buy .... however it the states it's sold out until December. This Tweed amp isn't even on their web site yet.

That website is a bit behind the others I think it's the most recent store. Hang in there, it took a while for the 20R to make it over, but it did, so this should also :)

Sounds great but I’m of the opinion that all amps this size should have a speaker out jack. I’ll stick with my very recently purchased Fender Excelsior. Actually, it’s be interesting to see you revisiting the Excelsior.

That might be the Tweed Tone 20R? The 12 is a lot less expensive.

I gave this a go because of the price and because I always wanted a 1 x 6L6 amp. To be honest I didn't much like the sound when I first got it. Woofy low end, a bit honky, and not very balanced sounding to me. I've managed to turn this into a fine amp with some simple mods. First, I turned it into an open back cab, which was better, but I still didn't like the speaker. A used Emi Ragin Cajun 10 inch speaker came up at the right time, so I installed that. Big improvement (but a good American style 12 inch would work just as well). I also put in some NOS tubes that I already had. The stock tubes are terrible. It's now a great amp for the rootsy blues/americana that I do. The hard rockers out there may disagree ;-)

What's the difference between the artist 5w champ clone and the Joyo sweet baby 5w champ clone? Seems there's major differences between the 2. Which would you prefer of the 2?

Sadly this Amp is not available in the US at this time, just the Tweed Tone 20R and TWEEDTONEV 5 WATT!!!!

I wonder if a 'Yellowjacket' tube adapter, would allow you to convert this amp from the 6L6 to an EL84? ... maybe that depends on how much room there is inside the amp.

It would, BUT yeah, as you said, making it FIT might be a problem!

An EL84 does not have as much plate dissipation, and would give you closer to 5 or 6 watts.

I have gone on the US site dozens of times over the last few years and never seen the Tweed Tone available. A great deal for Australia though. Love the sounds of the larger version.

I have one and agree to some extent. I've played a gig with it and several rehearsals, it's definitely loud for its size, I enjoy it but am thinking of whacking an eq pedal infant of it to see where that takes it.

It should be yes. Artist Guitars have shops in Australia, NZ, UK, and the US. The US might be a bit behind the rest as it's the newest, I think.

It looks and sounds like a great little amp, but when I went ti buy one on the USA website they don't even have it listed. Also, the 5 watt and other combo are all out of stock. It would be a great deal, IF you could actually buy one.

Shane, would you say this is a bit smoother sounding that the tweed tone 20r? Find mine to be way too bright, even with the treble dialed down

I find the 20 pretty easy to dial in with the treble about 10 O'Clock. This can be warmer inherently thanks to the bright/normal switch set to normal.

They are both similar except we get a larger speaker and cabinet on the Artist. They both handle pedals great and are louder than you think. It could go either way, depending on your ear and budget.

@iggyflop3777 I don't get your comment. It's clear Shane demos Artist products and they pay him in the form orlf free products, at least. He does a good job of making this clear in all his content. With no attempt to hide the fact, I think most viewers can make their own mind up regarding the neutrality or otherwise of the product being demoed.
