I always liked the idea of Belle being a boss. In this case, Gaston actually succeeds in killing the beast, taking Belle back and forcing her to marry him. On her wedding day she sees him wearing a mantle made of the skin of the slain beast. Realizing what he had done she murders the unsuspecting hunter, blinded by rage and madness, infront of the whole town. Taking the mantle from his corpse, she flees to the castle where the from now on always cursed inhabitants take her in, crowning her their queen, protecting her from any fool who would dare to step past the castle's gates to harm her. She would be like some kind of sorceress/commander mix who would attack you with spells from a safe distance while sending her servants to keep you at bay. The boss stage would be ballroom. Her name would be something like *"Belle, Widow of the Beast"*

My headcanon for Dark Souls Mulan is that when the army soldiers realized she was a woman, they buried her together with the Cricket in the snow alive, struggling to breathe and freezing to the cold temperature until they died. Because of the brutal treatment towards them, they vowed to get revenge. Also explains why their skin is blue and look cold.

I'm a little disappointed that they didn't discuss Mulans "hidden lore" as much as Gastons, there's a lot from the original story that they could have pulled. I mean come on, a disgraced ex-general who should have been executed but instead had to murder her way out and slowly went mad in the darkness of fighting for her survival? that is 100% Dark Souls.

Here's an idea: Netflix loves to do live-action versions of anime, but what if you guys reversed that and drew anime versions of live-action tv shows? (i.e. The Office in the style of Naruto, Friends as Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.) I know I've suggested this many times, but I just gotta keep trying!!

Idea for Mulan's fight: You enter a city filled with carts full of fireworks and buildings covered in celebratory decorations, but no one's there. You wander for a bit, then encounter Mulan alone on a street. The fight begins, accompanied by the sound of string instruments, but something's off. It's slightly out of tune, a little too shrill, and there's rattling. The moment you defeat Mulan, the music stops, only to be replaced by a steady drumming, a drumming that sounds uncomfortably close to footsteps. You turn towards the alleyway, and out of the shadows emerges a monstrous cricket. The cage on its head keeps it from eating you, but it doesn't stop it from trying. It spends much of the fight slamming into buildings, bringing them down in order to crush you, or at least corner you so its mistress can finish the job. You finally kill the cricket by jamming your weapon between the bars of the cage, and into its eye. But when you turn around, Mulan is nowhere to be found. Then, the cart next to you bursts into flames. You run, barely avoiding the fireworks as the city burns with the fury of a thousand suns. Stumbling through a melting gate, you find yourself in front of a palace. It explodes, the scattered, flaming pieces, preventing you from escaping. A booming roar directs your attention upwards, and silhouetted against a full moon, is a dragon.

For Mulan's fight: Enter a large battlefield with bodies and fire everyhwere at night. The moon is high and full. In the middle stands your foe: Mulan The Repudiated. Once you get close the battle begins with a serene gothic violin (though a bit... off) orchestra intermixed with pan flutes. Once you defeat Mulan the music stops, and she stumbles backwards a few steps and then falls onto one knee. A moment later she screams, softly at first, and then louder and louder until it is naught but a beastial roar as she faces the blackend sky above. From the darkness above falls her trusted companion. A large Cricket, mutated into a pulsing and starving beast of an insect with the only restraints the remains of a cage that held the prisoners it had for dinner. Thus begins the second phase with the gothic violin now replaced by the screeching sound of a cricket's carapace accross torn wings. After the fight you can bring her soul to the grave of Hua Zhou to recieve Mushu's blessing.

I love the fact that karina drew Mulan with half her hair cut short like she had a full mental breakdown and is trying to relive her days of war, or like a princess Azula sort of situation

The True Beast, Gaston: After suffering a humiliating defeat, Gaston suffered from a concussion that gave him serious brain damage. After obsessing over saving the girl, he lost sight of what and who he was as he obsessed over eggs and saving those in need, to the point it was no longer about the good deed but the act itself needing to be done. Gaston now repeatedly attempts to save the lives of people who don't even exist anymore as he scours the lands for eggs of rare creatures to save the one appetite he has left: Hunger. Mulan, Bloodlines Folly: Fa Mulan was a woman who wanted to take her elderly fathers place in the war to save him. When she invaded the camp in disguise, it wasn't long until they discovered her true identity. Instead of preventing her from fighting, they did the opposite. They forced her to fight for as long as she could, making her suffer from the sheer insanity of countless battles and becoming the dog of the chinese military, before eventually being the only one left in her squad, friend only to the cricket who soothes her to sleep every night with it's gentle songs. Facilier, the Shadowman: Dr. Facilier played with forces he could not control and dares not let them in. After surviving even though he was unable to repay his debt, he's become hunted for eternity by the forces of hoodoo and shadow. Wielding a cane with a candle, he wards off the shadows and must now survive in well lit areas that ward off the dark horrors that come to claim his debt.

At the start of Facilier's fight, he's normal. Just himself, controlling the shadows of the abyss to attack you. But once you get past his first phase, you put out his candle. With him out of the light, he is vulnerable to his own shadows. The abyss turns on him for trying to enslave it. It forms a large, dark, amorphous mass around him as it corrupts him to his very core and takes hold. He screams in pain and despair as the abyss enters his soul. He commands the shadows to leave him, but they don't listen to him anymore. Suddenly, his screams turn into a dreadful whisper, as the abyss now inhabits him. The shadows disperse, revealing his possessed body. His candle burns black and his skin is already suffering ths consequences of the possession. The shadows now released from his strategic control, their attacks are more savage. Every now and then, his own shadow comes to attack you. Facilier's husk of a body shambles slowly towards you, as the shadows stir above like a storm. When you defeat it, you destroy it's staff. The shadows scream in agony as the one thing connecting them to the material world shatters. Facilier's body leans back, as the shadows attempt to escape his body to return to the abyss before they fade. They push hard, and Facilier's body explodes into a cloud of abyssal shadows that slowly dissipate.

I can't spell his name but the moment they said the Princess and the Frog I thought of him all long and spindly but moves very jerkily and creepily and you find out that he is basically a puppet on strings. And the "friend on the other side" uses him for his power and as a distraction.

Ok so here’s a fun little Dr. Facilier Dark Souls concept: You walk into his little parlor. No music. Just wood creaks. No health bar appears yet. You wander around the room for a second before a shape, obscured by shadow, darts-almost slithers-across the room. This shape continues to move around occasionally until you go to investigate it, thinking you’ll find an enemy or a boss. You walk over to a shadowy corner of the arena and...nothing. But when you turn around, Facilier is right there, and he fucking whacks you with his staff and darts off. A health bar appears. “Dr. Facilier, Voodoo Priest”. But he doesn’t come out. You have to go find Facilier, and you only have a certain amount of time. If you find him and manage to sneak up behind him, you can get a good few hits on him (especially if you corner him). But if you’re in front of him, he’ll see you and run to the next spot. If you take too long finding him, a group of shadow hands will form, and they’ll hold you where you are. Facilier will run out and get hits on you. The entire time this is happening, there isn’t music. You hear a diegetic chorus of voices singing “he’s got friends on the other side” every so often (sung a few times by a similar chorus in the movie). Once you’ve got him down to half health, shit changes. His second phase is Julia’s drawing. He utilizes the shadows to attack, and is more directly confrontational with you. The music begins-it’s the descending quarter-note motif that plays when Facilier is dragged away in the movie. The chorus of voices is more apparent now. They contribute to the walkdown motif, but will occasionally shout out phrases like “Are ya ready?” and “You got what you wanted! But you lost what you had!” Facilier will occasionally throw tarot cards at you. If you manage to get past the shadows and to him, you can hit him to break his concentration. The shadows he’s controlling dissipate, and he’s stunned for a few seconds. You can rack up a few points before he loses his daze, and makes a whack at you with his staff. Once you kill Facilier, you assume the fight is over. The health bar goes away, but there’s no death animation or cinematic like there usually is. There’s no banner across the screen indicating victory. When you try to walk past/over Facilier’s body to get to the exit, it triggers his amulet to just fucking explode with shadow. This is phase three. The health bar pops up. “Friends on the Other Side”. There are a number of shadow creatures that are both joined together by and held stationary by the amulet. But, being shadows, their reach is pretty far. The main aim of this part of the battle is to dodge and weave through attacks, and make hits on the mass of shadow as often as you can. Once you’ve dealt enough damage, the mass of shadow dissipates with an explosion of cold light. You finally get an indication that you’ve beaten the boss, and you can leave the parlor.

I feel like Mulan would be more of an Alonne/Nameless hybrid thing, where she starts off as a one-on-one honourable duel but loses something precious to her, maybe the hair comb she left her dad? Whatever happens, she goes into a rage and summons A) her dragon Mushu (who is much larger in-game), B) her horse, which would be somewhat akin to p1 Ludwig, or C) channels her ancestors into her blade kinda like Alonne's buff, or maybe the Ivory King's? When she dies she collapses like she's grieving. In any case I like the Artorias+Sif/OnS vibe going.

This first one really has a nice dark souls story. It's a tragic and terrifying story that once was beautiful that has now devolved into having nothing left but a crumbling village and a monstrosity addicted to eggs.

Gaston does not simply shamble. He *scrambles.*

1: Ovum Lord Gaston, the True Beast 2: Eternal Warrior of Clan Hua 3: The Abyssal Doctor Soul of the True Beast - Though his prize died of old age long ago, the Beast raged on, growing in power to fight eternally for a love that was never his, unable to comprehend that his prize might not desire him in return. Soul of the Eternal Warrior - As a child, she was granted a guardian spirit, a dragon, to guide her on the path of righteousness. However, as the years passed, the warrior's bloodlust grew, and her ancestor's guide became yet another stain on her blade. Soul of the Abyssal Doctor - A poor man by birth, he claimed doctorhood by deals with spirits. However, his "friends" aid did not come without a price, an in the end, the Doctor's very soul was insufficient to pay back his debts.

I'd like to imagine Mushu is someone you can find in the stage where Mulan resides, and he's just a friendly NPC that's slightly humanoid just sitting by a campfire save point with a blanket around himself. When you interact with him he gives you some friendly advice, where from then on you can either befriend him or kill him with no remorse and make the Mulan boss fight slightly easier.

I'm imagining an interesting feature for the Shadow Man. You fight him in a dark room. In the darkness, he has better defense and you experience a curse/debuff that gradually worsens over time. In the darkness, he will attack you with his weapon. If you bring a light source, the shadows he casts are sharper. He deals more damage, and he attacks from a distance with his now-distinctive shadow. He tries to keep his _own_ body out of the light. The fight becomes about balancing the trade-off between light and darkness. Maybe there are even torches around the room that you can activate to light, or extinguish by hitting them with a weapon. But _he_ may also occasionally extinguish them himself. When he is killed, there is a cutscene where you plunge a torch into his torso, banishing the shadows that animate his bones from within.

Caldwell’s avatar is such an ancient relic nowadays compared to the crew now and I kinda like it’s hint to the history, but also wanna see his evolution in style

I feel like if they ever made a "Dark Souls" movie it would end with the 'hero' becoming corrupted, and you realize the whole movie was just the origin story of a Dark Souls boss doomed to wait for a new 'hero' to fight.

Boss Gaston's weakness is heights. To defeat him, we have to trick him to follow us out of the cave to an edge and make him fall. Mushu's death is part of Mulan's transformation from good warrior to evil boss. Question is, was it his death that triggered the transformation or was her transformation the thing that caused his death? Only answer Boss Mulan has given was a small smile while whispering "dragon...steak".

Caldwell? This feels like a wild late season special of a long running TV show where the main character from the first 2 seasons briefly rejoins our heroes

When you enter the Mulan arena, you can hear a creepy gothic violin that serves as the intro soundtrack. It sounds a little weird, and there are some strange, clicking noises that you can hear on occasion. Mulan is standing in the center, in the position shown in this drawing. After you duel her, the soundtrack becomes less elegant and more 'insect'-like. More chittering, more shrieks, more noises that make you grit your teeth, as the cricket leaps from above the doorway that you entered in and the second phase begins.

As a guy who wants to eventually become a content creator, I never thought I would enjoy sooo much watching a group of artists doing concept art and having fun with the lore and the source material... Thank you. Subscribed.

Actually, I think with Lefou, it would have been great if he actually gave the quest to kill Gaston. Make Gaston an optional boss, but to fight Gaston, you needed to have talked to Lefou who asks you to slay his old friend who was consumed by rage. The story can be that Lefou stayed by his side all these years in the pursuit of vengeance and false justice, but as time went on, Gaston slowly lost his humanity and before long didn't care who he killed as long as it could satisfy the bloodlust he constantly felt. Eventually Gaston turns his hatred towards Lefou, and Lefou sadly had to lock away the beast that was his former friend. Lefou now spends his days holding onto the key to his friends prison, searching for someone that can finally bring an end to Gaston's suffering.
