One more thing regarding the controversies around "Blurred Lines." The song was criticized for being a rip off of Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up.” And Gaye's estate went on to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams that ended in a $5M judgment in the estate's favor.

Roddy is right, his debut album set a precedent in rap that wasn’t there from a male rapper yet because of the overnight success of tiktok. How many artists selling 100k on there debut? It was the fans who overhyped his career and had unrealistic expectations.Roddy is still a successful artist who releases regularly (every 2-4 years)

Roddy career reminds me similar to Megan trainor. Both had huge debut albums and their songs were all over radio for an entire whole year(especially Megan in 2015. Then they both dropped a follow up album that flopped. Roddy mistake was not capitalising on the success immediately by relating more songs and actually hyping or promoting his second album like how Travis did. He ruined it by dropping it last minute and thinking it can be bigger than his first. For that you gotta be a interesting artist and popular to do that

Chance is a weird one cause it feels like he could come back pretty easily. I mean artists drop bad albums all the time and still make comebacks, yet here we are, years later, with no new Chance album, and the last time I personally heard about him was when he was when some girl was dancing all on him at a party in I think Jamaica or somewhere like that? Really weird.

Honestly, you don’t need to be putting out albums every year as an artist… it’s not manageable. Hip-hop and pop music in general is so fickle that attention spans are shorter than ever. Problem is, there’s so many clones, or one dimensional talents, it’s hard to keep things fresh, or evolve with the times. That said, Kanye is a fucking beast and a goddamn outlier.

Gotta be crazy to think Robin Thicke is just famous for blurred lines😭

Think about it like this, Thicke ain't really big outside the R&B space. The guy making this video is white, not a slight against him but I doubt he grew up listening to the same radio stations as black folks. Cause R&B stations be bumping “Lost Without U” and “Morning Sun.” I've had to explain to a lot of people who the Fugees are beyond “Killing me softly” and who Jazmine Sullivan is beyond “Knock your Windows”

I was really young when Chance became the first rapper to win a Grammy without selling physical copies of his music, like middle school prolly. I had no idea what that meant at that time tbh but dude was all people talked about cuz of that. Kinda miss when Chance was on top cuz his music to me never seemed anything but happy. Plus the kit Kat commercials I feel like he was on?

When it comes to making albums or songs about a loved one or an ex normally if you make one song and it doesn't do well you can still come back from pretty easily but if you make an entire album with multiple songs it's significantly harder to come back from as you can see with what happened with Robin Thicke and Chance the Rapper

Cause Taylor reputation and public image is built in a pathetic image of feminism mixed with poor accountability choices for the men she chose to be with as well as inspiring a angry rebellious generation go women who wanna be hoes or boss bitches than wives. The difference is her music is kind of enjoyable enough people wanna hear. Drake and even future makes songs about exes it’s all about marketing and how you try and filter it

It's more about how you do it and why you do it. Robin Thicke's Paula failed because it's corny and it really is more about robin getting his wife back rather than him making good music or expressing himself. Converge's Jane Doe and You Failed me are about a very specific relationship that ended badly for Jacob Bannon. The albums talk about more on how expectations, emotional immaturity and inexperience led to turmoil and destruction in romantic relationships. It's self introspection during a very painful moment and the music's aggressiveness plays out in it's favor. You can also make more angsty and corny albums about unlove and straight up hatred about your ex loved one if you are aware enough, tho. Type o Negative's Slow Deep and Hard and The Origin of The Feces are basically Peter Steele whining and complaining about his unfaithful ex girlfriend and how he wants to kill himself while calling her misogynistic slurs. But you know what? The lyrics and songwriting are full of irony and self deprecation so it never comes out as needy or "creepy" (one of the stupidest labels out there) as Thicke's Paula.

surprised that panic! isn’t in here. like I love panic! but damn… the desperation and rushed sound of that newer album… everyone could tell something was off. Ripping his voice apart in concerts, posting a community posts on youtube basically every 12 hours trying to remind people that he released new songs, the album’s visual themes like era and colour scheme clearly being heavily “inspired” by an album from a band one of panic!’s previous members has built to massive success (I’d say 12 songs and 2mill monthly listeners on spotify is pretty fuckin good) Honestly hurts to watch :(

If you don’t like it you don’t like it but you ALREADY HAVE Acid Rap and Coloring Book so you should just be great fun for the amazing music the man put out and you should have nothing but respect for a man coming from nothing working hard succeeding and then taking the time to be a father and enjoy his life. If you respected chance on the come up then you should respect him enjoying the good life right now. If he never made another song I’d still be a fan for life 👌🏼

It wasn’t just about writing about his wife but about how the quality of his lyrics and music had terribly diminished, he wrote corny bar after corny bar in that album, while the “i love my wife” thing became a meme and all, it was definitely not the reason why people hated the album and turned on him, it was because of the fact that he clearly wasn’t putting much effort on his music anymore
