Hello! So, after much deliberation I needed to whittle down a couple people and at random chose a winner - Scarebear 333 - her boyfriend is going into the military and can’t afford calligraphy supplies so I really hope he enjoys it! Thanks everyone for entering, I’ll be doing more giveaways in the future so keep your eyes peeled :)

When I see you drawing with a nib pen like is a pencil it gives me chills 🥶. In my country we were forced to use ink fountain pens until we were in the 5th grade, because it would supposedly help us to have a beautiful handwriting (spoiler alert, it didn't), but I can tell you are using it more like a ball pen and that will ruin the nib quick. The most important thing is to never push with an nib pen, you have to be delicate, the ink will flow on its own. Also you need to keep your palm on the paper and your elbow on the table for stability, you seem to work from your shoulder and elbow, that is great for drawing but for using nib pens is a big no no, because you put pressure on the nib, you need to work only from the wrist and fingers. You also are left-handed, and traditionally nib pens were designed for right-handed people, in my school they solved that problem by forcing everyone to write with the right hand (was as fun as it sounds 😒), but, I heard that now there are nibs especially designed for left handed people, those might be better for you. Hope this helps you. 😀

We also had writing class around age 7 to 8 (not sure which grade that is) with fountain pens. It worked for me. I actually have the original fountain pen handwriting that I bust out on birthday cards and such and the daily one that is a lot easier to read because the letters are separate.

Same here! I am actually left handed and interestingly, I always preferred the "regular" pens, not the special left hand ones (they have a slightly differently angled tip because you basically hold it the other way round). But I agree that you have to use them in a different way than pencil or ballpoint pens. also, idk about the ink refill issue, I only know those pretty simple ink cartridges things that you simply plop into the pen and take out when empty... it's not that hard. like refilling a ballpoint pen...

Calligraphy is much harder as a left hander. As someone was born left handed but was bullied into using my right hand I still prefer writing with my left except when I'm writing calligraphy
@csickginger3 жыл бұрын
Yes! I've taught my left handed best friend some calligraphy, but had her write in mirrored letters. Left handers push the pen across the page for writing, while right handers pull the pen to their right when writing. Writing in mirror letters made it easier for her to use a calligraphy tipped pen for letters Do you still use your right hand when drawing with a fountain pen
@marne.lierman3 жыл бұрын
I ended up learning calligraphy twice. First time was with my (dominant) left hand. It was miserable because I had to use special pens, and it was basically like learning how to write again. Then a couple years later I had the opportunity to learn again, and decided to learn with my right hand. It was also very difficult, but a lot more satisfying.

I tell you a secret. The reason why you find the calligraphy challenging is that you are lefty. I suffer/enjoy from same issue. The pen nibs are in wrong angle when you try to get the lines go in the right way. The best way to fix that is to try to find a way to turn the paper into different angles than what it is when you normally write. And keep trying different directions with the paper till you find one that works for you. I have mine almost upside down so that I can get the pen nib work like the right handed person would. While I love to be lefty most of the time, in this area it sucks lol. But yeah it takes more work to figure out how to make the pens work. And I have found it easier to learn it now after figuring out what my issue was and what are some of the ways for me to "fix" them. I hope this helps to tackle the learning process some with the calligraphy.
@MountainBabyRoses3 жыл бұрын
Their are left handed nibs you should be able to find and switch out on your pen. Also I would suggest felt tip pins (I love mine from tombow) that works more on the pressure than the angles of the pen

Hello! :) For the alcohol inks, you have to put only some on the paper and then, you have to put alcohol on it to create whatever you want. You have to be quick when you blow on it after pouring some alcohol ( it has to be 90% alcohol or more. 75% does not work. ) because it dries very quickly. It spreads a lot. That's why you don't have to use too much ink. After that, you can ( if you want :) ) draw on top ( when dry ) with a white gel pen or black pen. I also use Posca pens. It's so much fun! Great video! :)
@haleyp8983 жыл бұрын
Calligraphy is different for left handed people. With chisel nibs like that you have to turn the paper 90 degrees to get the correct angle, or you need angled nibs (often sold in sets for left handed people). Its just really hard for most lefties to get the right angles in calligraphy without making major changes to the default instructions, and the correct angle is super important for having the shapes come out right.
@helengibson46523 жыл бұрын
I was just about to say! Being a southpaw myself, It's really hard to do calligraphy due to the angle of the nib. You really have to find different ways to adjust in order to achieve those straight lines. I've addressed wedding invites before but put a little of my own spin to them so they looked neat and tidy :)

I really enjoyed this, so fun to watch someone use an art supply for the first time. Alcohol inks can also be mixed with your pigment powders, and you can add alcohol to make pastel colors. They do only work on coated or sealed papers, but are also great on plastic packaging or acetate. And yours turned out awesome! Don't be so hard on yourself.

I dont expect to receive this box, but it would be an absolute dream. I fell out of art about 2 years ago when I moved away from home and got really sick. Nowadays I've filled my time with meaningless things and my fiancee finally spoke up and told me to do art. I want to get back into the flow, but when I went searching for my old sketch book, it was gone. Its left me so depressed. Recently I got a new sketch book but I dont have any nice ink pens to work with (I specifically love sketching with ink because of how freeing it is, whatever you do, you just go with. If you make a mistake, incorporate it instead of erasing it.) This box has inspired me. Whether I win it or not, I hope to get it someday.

It's a little comforting when I see really talented artists struggle with calligraphy, because I absolutely suck at drawing and art stuff, but I've loved calligraphy ever since I started learning it in 4th grade art class. When you're using a chisel tip marker it's important to keep your tip at the same angle the whole time you're writing. It's one of those things that just takes very little creativity and a whole lot of practice.

Tip for calligraphy: Put a little bit of pressure when ur moving down not a lot of pressure though And while moving up put less pressure but let the line be visible thin lines while moving the pen up and thick lines while moving the pen down.. I also recommend practicing with a chisel tip pen or marker before stating to use fountain pens. Hope this helps 😊

I love colour and it amazes me how each colour works together and how they compliment each other in their own way. As I grew older colour never siezed to amaze me and it still does now. A few years ago i picked up a starter calligraphy set and i was struck by how the pens worked and moved across the page. It made me investigate hand lettering, i now love them both for different reasons. However, they link together, through the past few years ive been through lots of emotions and calligraphy helped me express them in a way nothing else would. I would mix the colour with the lettering picking the colours and styles depending on my emotions at that time. I would really like Jazza's incredible inky art box because i want to experiment and create with amazing new supplies! If you were to pick me my Instagram is @ewattisart but I'm really not expecting it. Thank you Chloe for your inspiring arty videos.

I really, really love your videos Chloe. Your love of Disney only rivals my own, and it's amazing to see what you do with it! I have watched all three videos now, and I think the box that I'd most like to have is the sculpting box (although I would love all 3 ;) ). I already have a great deal of calligraphy-type items, and although I would absolutely love to have that Apocalypse Ghost piece, I don't know that I would have the time/patience to put something like that together right now. The sculpting box, however, has a lot more potential for me to create some really great stuff to add to my collection of knick-knack type things. Thank you for your videos, they really make me smile in a time where that has become increasingly difficult.

The ink pen wasn’t working the best because the nib is bent on one of the “prongs”! They should be side by side
@enname16223 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Seems she put too much pressure on it so it bended
@Callmeapollo13 жыл бұрын
@@enname1622 I think it came bent? When she first took it out of the box the two nib bits weren’t lining up
@savannahswan8103 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was looking for this comment. It was bent as soon as she removed it from the box.
@ckdesign4293 жыл бұрын
My first thought when I saw the nibs was, why didn't they just have ten of three types or something? chances of having a junk nib are really high.

Giveaway: My boyfriend is shipping out for the military soon. He has gotten into calligraphy in the past couple months but all he can afford is cheap walmart supplies. I was planning on buying him better calligraphy supplies but with covid its near impossible to afford anything better than what he already has. I want to get this box so I can give it to him as a bootcamp graduation present. Hes gonna be gone over Christmas so it would double as a Christmas present as well. I know he would absolutely love it, especially after having nothing for a couple months. That and I could borrow his old stuff and he could teach me what he's learned so far Instagram: Scarebear_333 Best of luck everyone and congratulations to whoever wins 😊

For the giveaway: my friends and I have been playing D&D (over zoom, of course) since quarantine began and it’s helped us stay sane the past six? seven? months? And as a gift to the other players and our dungeon master (who had to move 1,500 miles away from us) I would love to learn how to paint and make minis. This game of dungeons and dragons has grown to be such a huge blessing and has helped us to stay sane and grow even closer as friends. It would be so much fun if I could realize these alternate versions of ourselves that much more!

So I said that I would comment on the other 2 videos (if I remember to do the last one). I was going to comment anyway, but I got busy and forgot. So here goes: My wife absolutely loves this box as much as she loves you and Jazza. I actually enjoy Jazza, but this is for my wife. Great video that she really enjoyed. She would love the inkybox and I would love to give it to her as a present as I commented in "Part 2". Thank you for making my wife happier! We are on Twitter @MemesrusM where you can see my wife's work, which is inspired by you.

After watching all three videos, I think I’m leaning towards the inky box. Last time I’ve done any sculpting or mini painting was in high school over a decade ago 😅 but calligraphy is new to me. I’ve been practicing on neater cursive writing and this box would inspire me to practice more! Also, that fancy inkwell and dip pen holder is “fiyaaah!” Lol I want to be fancy too. The other boxes are great but I have a little one that’s learning to get her hands into everything so I don’t want sharp or little pieces for her to find!
