I don't think anyone 30 years ago could imagine that you would have all of these synthesisers recreated on your personal computer and fully controllable for a few hundred quid. Love my Arturia collection although I often find it a bit overwhelming, there's just too much choice!

We can always count on Woody to give us the best of whatever synth/keyboard/piano/organ/sampler he is playing. I miss the little hard 3.5inch plastic floppy disks like we see sticking out the SQ-80v. They held huge amounts of MIDI data and synth patches, inexpensive, dependable, universal, and could write on them lots of info.

Can vouch for the fact the SQ80V is nearly dead on to my ESQ1 and the DX7 is dead on to my real DX7. Recently I loaded my CZ1's sysex into the CZ-V and I'd say it's 95% there.

I love Arturia stuff. Big fan of the CZ V in particular. Snapped up the SQ80 when it was released. I'm someone who has to feel something when I'm playing synths... whether it's close to the original or not. If I like it, I'll buy it.. You get amazing presets on their stuff. This and my Synapse Audio, U-he, G-Force, Korg and Cherry Audio collections I have way more than I need!!!! For now... lol 😊

Yamaha DX7 emulates well the good old FM7 from Native Instruments, and what is typical is that this VSTi practically does not load the CPU, unlike modern sophisticated software synths. 👍

The digital synths are the towering achievements of Arturia's V Collection, in my opinion, at least given how close they are to the hardware versions of the synths.

The tracks with question marks in the list (6, 7, 11 and 12) are Joe Jackson (It's Different For Girls), Elaine Paige and Barbara Dixon (I Know Him So Well) Ryan Paris (Dolce Vita) and Kraftwerk (Computer Love)

woody what a fantastic showcase of all the sounds of the arturia series, seems like as I have all the Native Instruments stuff, this stuff is like the NI stuff, SOOO much choice and can easily get overwhelmed, Im always either making sounds or tweaking one or two to fit them into my productions, Its mad how far we have come in terms of synthesis, Just have to wait for a kurzweil emulation with the v.a.s.t synthesis, We Have the Korg stuff, We have The Roland Stuff, We Have the Casio Stuff (preety much) we have All types of synthesis out there, FM/PD/Analogue/Virtual Analog/Subtrative/LA/S+S/Rompler/Physical Modeling/Wavetable, V.A.S.T is preety much a sum of everything (I think ive covered) but a VST in the future of that, would be very interesting indeed!

There is a thing with the Arturia DX7, it's a Mark 2 emulation, not Mark 1. The only Mark 1 DX7 emulation that i know is the OPS7 from Plogue, night&day difference vs Mark 2.

Even though its a good demo, but i would have loved if you talked about the synths individually.. specially the historic aspects.. most/all demos only seem to talk about features/sound quality, etc, but I'm also interested in their historical/cultural/musical pedigree.. specially the ones from the 60s/70s..

When you happen to get back to "real instruments" type reviews, please do demos of these awesome vsts that I use daily - Acoustic Samples VTines MK1 rhodes piano, and Acoustic Samples B5 v3 (Hammond B3 vst). Why? For one, the realism is at the peak of many other rhodes and B3 vsts I've tried, and also, one can adjust volume and timbre of each individual note. Which fixes inconsistent volumes or timbres of some notes, an issue which plagues most hardware synths and also vsts. Some players like a consistent volume and timbre across all notes of the keyboard. The Vintage Vibe new version of the acoustic-electric Rhodes seems to actually meet that ideal consistency via engineering and quality control.

Vintage hardware synths from 30 years ago still work and produce gorgeous sounds. Will software synths still be usable in 30 years from now? Will Arturia support Windows 2053? Only perhaps. We have to support Arturia and make sure they can keep making healthy profit by providing updates.

For me as well - hardware > software - even to the point of not taking into the account "additional features available within the app via the Bluetooth connection" when I'm comparing the value of the gear from various brands. However let's consider that hardware from back then is becoming more rare and more expensive in maintenance. Also not many can afford the storage space for multiple synths. It quickly starts to make sense to get the software versions.

The same which is valid for a hardware synth is also valid here. Nobody is stopping you from keeping the computer you run them on and use them and repair them many years later. Also with some later hardware synths they use special and sometimes even not properly documented parts and probably are unrepairable once they break.

@@mudi2000a That's very true. I still keep a WinXP (with Win 9x virtual PC) desktop for that purpose. I'm still worried though that many newer plugins do an online authorization checkup which is potentially a risk in the long run.
