Arturia designed the oscillators to start to distort when turned up past the half way mark. So if anyone finds the "raw" sound and "crunch" a bit much can take that into account. This synth can sound very sweet. It was my 1st analog, bought a while back, and still used now with some modular. Btw, delay/looper and reverb pedals turns this into a monster! As always, great video.

This is right. Anyone complaining about the sound of the Microbrute, never tried it physically and judged it only based on KZfaq sound recording. I'm a Microbrute owner, and I'm so glad to experience the versatility of sound.

The Arturia Microbrute is a very awesome and underrated monosynth. The one thing that I did with mine recently is add a very inexpensive chorus pedal to it. Back in the "80's" a lot of synth players, including myself would do this on the signal chain. I really like your video that you made on this synth. Stay safe out there.

@@fincorrigan7139 The Microbrute is analogue, which to me, is what's important. Adding a digital multi-fx pedal misses the point of buying analogue . Using analogue FX pedals is the way to go. That's only my opinion, but I think it's valid.

@@rexterrocks I wouldn't get too caught up on digital v Analog. Eventide themselves recommend to get the best reverb sounds you do not use the Analog signal bypass. And if you are unfamiliar with Eventide I'm afraid it's back to school time. There are plenty of comparisons available. There's very few cheap all Analog monosynths about probably the best of them for pure Analog signal path is the Behringer D. The Microbrute isn't even all analog, there is a digital low frequency oscillator so it's not all Analog but the main oscillator, filters and envelopes are 100% Analog. I own both of those along with a few others and they both sound great but my digital Blofeld sounds out of this world.

Hi Jade, I have a Baby 8 sequencer permanently hooked up the the filter input on my Micribrute clocked from a Korg Volca sync out. Incredibly cheap way of getting some really nice tempo synced filter effects! The Baby 8 is only £20 (guessing it's the same price in $) but you do have to solder it together as a diy kit. The Korg SQ1 will do this too, sequence A running the notes and sequence B controlling the filter (or any other input).

I've been using the original since 2018, it really is my favorite bass, leads and subbass synthesizer, for any hip-hop, downtempo, triphop, house, break beat, big beat song... it's really beastly. But I was surprised that I could use the sequencer as an apregator, and do a duophonity using the filter as a second oscillator. after all these years I realized that it has an oscillator with a sub oscillator, LFO and a resonant filter that acts as an oscillator... it has 3 useful oscillators, yes, it generates very strange and unstable sounds, the bass has analog phase and generates the magic that I like so much in the 90s trip-hop bass.( thyevery corporation, portishead, tricky, massive attack...) can really do a lot of 90s reggae electronic dub, yes, this machine gives it to me. his tricks are great, and he has a very loud sound, good volume and aggressiveness, he can be soft and subtle. For my Arturia here I managed to make a mix between an MS-10 and a SH101, the result is united and very powerful in sound.

TLDR: I tried searching to see if you'd covered the MiniBrute or MiniBrute 2... I didn't see one, but you did a great job reviewing this one, and so I went ahead with my purchase... I bought a MiniBrute 2, it only just shipped on the 2nd (today, as of this posting). Thank you so much for sharing your experience/knowledge! Longer: The main reason I chose the MiniBrute 2, was the patch-bay, so that I can still build my projects and modules, but it'll play! I ended up finishing building the VCO in time for halloween (a previous project, the DIY halloween Synth) but I don't want to go away from music, the issue I've got is that I've spent 30 years playing guitar and music has been my life really... So Rather than build and build and build but never play, I wanted to get straight to business with something useful and adaptable!

Hey Dawless, thank you for your videos. Thanks for your videos. I am very new to all this. I had a question for you, and it may be a stupid one. I have been looking into getting a piano/keyboard for a hobby. I enjoy playing traditional piano music, but I also make short films so it would be cool to play with the effects from a synthesizer. Is there a synthesizer/keyboard or setup that I could use that could double as a piano/keyboard. One that preferably has a mic input so I can play with voice tones. Also one that has a decent amount of keys that I could potentially play an assortment of songs? I'm sorry if this question makes no sense. My budget would be around $500.

It's really a tremendous little package. When had a bit of an analog monosynth craze a few years ago and these were the cream of the crop IMHO. You can do so much with these brutes. The Micro's osc section is one of the few I still enjoy tweaking and actively gives me ideas. I sub/5th harmonic is my favorite...well a tie with the metalizer/triangle (the whole wave folding/fm-ish result is awesome). For a hardwired unit you get a lot of choice via the patch bay. For example use the EG to free up the ASDR, which you can then use almost anywhere (route to ach osc, filter and osc pitch). It has lot of little tricks. But I do agree with whoever mentioned pedals....you can get a power brick and a bunch of cheap strange oddities, had some really good results in mad scientist mode. But seriously if you do that get a few used reliably good ones, I use a Small Clone on everything and Memory Boy....plus some strange Chinese thing called Ghost Rain.

Microkorg is very different from this one, so choose wisely! I don't like Microkorg (used to have it few years ago) for how sound design flow is made there, but it's perfect for live performances and actually playing. Designing a tone there is a headache. On the other hand it is polyphonic so you can probably do much more with it than with Arturia Microbrute. Personally I got bored of Microbrute after a year of using and now thinking about selling it to get Korg Minilogue. Please, feel free to ask me any questions on both devices.

@@leftmono1016 Hehe, right now I'm thinking about replacing Microbrute with Minilogue (I found some cheap used ones). I used to hae a Korg Microkorg and I didn't like it's UI much. It seems Minilogue is much more convenient. Probably Monologue is a good option too. Is it more flexible than Microbrute on your opinion?
@leftmono1016
@leftmono1016 5 жыл бұрын
@@Divuar - I think the Monologue is more flexible yes. Two oscillators, velocity to filter, presets, midi CC and motion sequencing. I love motion sequencing, you can do cool stuff like set up a motion sequence controlling filter, resonance, oscillator shape or whatever and then remove the notes themselves. As long as the sequence is still running it'll apply the motion movements to any new notes you play. Then set the sequence length to say 15 or 13 steps and you've got constantly evolving parameter movements. The little patchbay on the Microbrute is useful for connecting it up to modular stuff (or an SQ1 for example) but I still prefer Korg's motion sequencing for adding variation. I might be wrong but I think the new Minilogue has CV inputs so has the best of both worlds. That looks like a monster synth!

@@JAdeWii_ ok cool.. i really wanna get the Minilogue XD but it's just a tad out of my price range. the local shop has a used Odyssey set up.. i'm going later today to go play with it.. but at $499 its just out of my range aswell.. wont let it stop me from playing with it till they say that's enough.. beat it or buy it

And I thought the Korg MiniKorg model was the smallest synth out there, but after seeing this, that synth looks even smaller in size!

Hey great vids, really enjoying your channel! Which would you say is better for ambient/psych pads Microbrute or Monologue? Thanks
@JAdeWii_
@JAdeWii_ 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For pads you should really consider a polyphonic synth, Although I'm not super crazy about the Minilogue, it does make great ambient pads

Are you trying to play in a DAW? I had a similar issue where I was trying to play a Yamaha Reface into a Scarlet 2i2 interface using Protools. It didn't work until I went to the protools "Setup" tab and changed the playback engine to Scarlet 2i2
