There are a few presets FROM Pigments, and you can do some minor tweaks to the sounds, but of course you have to buy the instrument to get access to complete editing. Also, you can always add sound packs that have more Pigments presets.

I love how MiniFreak is basically becoming a hardware Serum. I want to get a MiniFreak at some point but I’ll still have fun playing with MiniFreak V for now.

Thanks for the video Jef. I was initially going to pass since I've only had 9 for a year, but mini freak, acid and a few others for an upgrade price is hard to pass up - and I already have Pigments.

I was happily surprised to see Arturia take into account things we buy between releases of V Collection. I have 9 and bought Acid V earlier this year - the upgrade price I see reflects what I already paid for Acid V. This is something Native Instruments really need to learn so I’m not paying twice for things between releases of Komplete. Not sure how many times I’ve bought Playbox 😂 Btw beware when using the KK software and browsing presets - sometimes the numbers of presets don’t add up - especially with Pigments. I got in touch with Arturia and they realized they stopped adding NKS presets at v3.0, so 3.5 and 4.0 presets are missing. I have a KK mkII but if I can, I run everything standalone.

Very overpriced upgrade pricing considering the marginal updates and lack of new instruments. I already own the Minifreak VST and Pigments (which I don't think is included in V Collection X) as well. A shame because Arturia used to give very good upgrade pricing to existing customers who had made several purchases.

If you have been steadily adding new instruments when they become available, the crossgrade price comes out to $99, which I think is fair given that the CP-70 and the AUGMENTED WOODWINDS were the brand new additions. I don't think Pigments will ever be a part of the V Collection because it is considered a native software instrument as opposed to either an emulation of something that existed or instrument library (the Augmented Series).

V-collection used to have the Spark drum machine included. I don’t know why it is no longer included but I still have it installed. I don’t think it’s updated anymore…

@@FrankLorenz23 $299. I use Pigments when I want to really "go exploring" and while there are deeper/broader VSTs I absolutely love its interface. When I added up what I get that I actually want then ask the question, "Would I pay around $50 for each of those" the answer for me was yes. (Juno, Vocoder, OB-Xa, MS-20, Minifreak V, 😍Acid V!!!😋, plus re-worked CS-80, Jup 8, P5, and Mini)

So a few things ... - I too use Analog Lab as an audition of sorts if I don't have a particular synth in mind or I want to know what is available in a general category. If I know I want to use that specific synth, I go directly there. - Time was that Arturia had Spark, which was both a controller and virtual software specific for synthesized drums. They have discontinued this years ago. I could see Arturia doing something like AUGMENTED PERCUSSION or perhaps AUGMENTED DRUMS where you can go either acoustic or electric or the blend of the two. This is if they want to go into Roland or XLN Audio or the like territory. - I've used Arturia's stuff since 2009 and you really are spoiled for choice when it comes to instruments.

Yeah, augmented percussion could be my fave of the bunch! Otherwise an 808 redux wouldn't be that exciting on its own... some hybrid would be fantastic!

I think that'a already an option with the v5.0 firmware, no? Not for about Minifreak but it's smaller brother Microfreak did got sample loading + playing in the latest firmware (like 6-7 months ago)

Hi Jeff. How are you? Long time, no see. Lol. Question: Are there any libraries that have great harmonica sample libraries? Other question... if you have neither, which is a better buy... Native Instruments Komplete/ultimate, or the Arturia V collection?i am learning mpc live 2, reason studios 12 and Fl studios 21 or 22.i haven't stated Fl studios yet though. Thank you. Is native instruments still half off? Since so many people have used those sounds does that make it a bad choice and investment of funds? Thank you.

NI still has lots of stuff on sale... but between the two: NI is more sample based+synths and Arturia is mostly synth (a few sampled type instruments like the pianos etc but even their orchestral stuff is synth on purpose) So it's more a question of what you need to add to what you already have!

Forgive the highjack, but I for one would love to hear your opinions on the new MacBook you have there. I’ve looked at many reviews but they all just run a bunch of test programs.

It's 2 years old now... 16" 4TB 64GBRam... and it's a beast. I LOVE it... except for when it bricked on a simple security update and I lost a ton... So: keep up to date on Time Machine backups and DEFINITELY get Apple care! (my last MBP lasted only 4 years and had a Logic board die in the middle of those years... and at the end of those years!!)

I suspected they would do more Play Series things, ehrm I mean Augmented Series. Too easy to drop in samples and slap on a different UI picture vs building a new synth. They still could do Roland JX, Crumar Bit99, Ensoniq Mirage. Maybe V Collection XI?

After making this video it occurred to me that I'd love to see Analog lab get even more powerful to answer my "problem" with too many synths with too many parameters... what would be super cool would be more macros in Analog Lab that could get you to the meat and potatoes of a patch on ANY of their synths without having to open that synth and re-learn the interface of that particular one. That might be a BIG ask though!

@@jefgibbons I think well mapped 16-24 knobs is plenty. That's how I use Komplete Kontrol, I map the usual parameters, filters, ADSR, FX mix etc on those pages since you always change those parameters to make a patch fit. KK works fine for that. The Analog Labs knobs function have been super wonky and often to no use at all. AND no NKS presets for Analog lab to preview, that is so bonkers when that would increase the usability 100%. And they have NKS for the other synths!? Oh well A bunch of NKS presets are available at the NI forum in the NKS preset thread. I just dropped my 700+ NKSs for Retrologue2. Grab it if you like. Graphis too.

I have 9 and I noticed that a lot of the existing plugins were updated to V. I would like to know what they added to especially the OP-Xa which is my fave and the others of course.

The OP-Xa wasn't updated from V-Collection 9 to X. Mini V and Wurli were. From V-Collection 8 to 9, CS-80, Prophet and Piano saw updates.

I feel like a lot of the updates are an effort to make them even truer to the sound of the originals... which at the end of the day is often meaningless to me since I don't have most of them to compare... so the first versions sounded like the hardware, the next versions even more like the hardware... but as long as the patches sound good I'm often indifferent!

Most of the new collection insturments didn't have any major updates over the previous version. Only twodid: Mini (moog) had an updated engine and Wurlie (Wurlitzer) did have updates to their sound engines. The rest had minor updates related to the themes, preset management, buttons, etc. So if you have nine, only these two have new engines. But you get several new instruments, Aciv V (303 clone), a Yamaha CP-80 electric piano, the Minifreak v2, and the 2 new Augmented Brass/Woodwinds.

Thanks for the info! I think I am going to stick with 9 for now...I thought there might be major updates to what I already had but apparently not and I think I will probably buy individual new ones going forward as they release if anything really catches my eye...

MiniFreak lacks of the MicroFreak's "keyboard"! Why they've didn't made two versions? "Buchla keys" could use the same parts of the "normal keys" version minus these keys and plus it's "PCB keybed" including the amazing "pressure" feature that isn't in "normal keys".

@@jefgibbons Actually I've bought a used MicroFreak only because of these keys! I've thought that it will be my new interesting MIDI controller. And about a year later we get that amazing update with granular and samples :) Not the best sampler in the world but it's really lightweight and "for free"! :))

I think part of it is the complexity of having the digital equivalent on your computer! And that makes the synth way more usable and attractive to me...

Installed my arturia plugins and found about half of them do not work on my MacBook Pro M3 Pro running Sonoma. Dissapointing......hope they fix it soon....

It's strange. They will run stand alone, and they will run in Maschine ONLY IF if I load them as a VST plug in. If I try to load them from the browser I get a compatability error. NOTE it is the V3 instruments in the collection I'm having problems with. The V2 instruments load fine....@@jefgibbons

I refuse to make this nonsensical upgrade. I love arturia but hell no. I just purchased the minifreak and fuse 4. I own alot of Arturia vsts too and then u have the nerve to ask 199$ for a few instruments upgrade. This is an Arturia scam. No disrespect. I refuse this upgrade. I will wait for 2024 xmas for another upgrade.
