Continuation of my series of printmaking with a small 8 in. x 10 in, gelli plate. My theme is circles and lines, and I show how to make ink transfers with permanent markers. I also show the effects of layering colors to get special textures.
Tru Red permanent marker, Sharpie marker, black

Thank you for this presentation. I have a student who is almost 4 yrs old. She comes once a week and we do a wide variety of creative activities that are very simplified versions of my own art...painting, drawing, etc. everything is non-representational. Mark making is such fun and she loves it. Her mind is further advanced than her hands so i have to adapt my approach to the projects for her. I want her to try some gelli prints...this should be very interesting. She can handle the 2" brayer, markers, and mark making tools. I am amazed with the fresh energetic drawings she does...being so young her mind has not been polluted with being driven by wanting to make representative renderings. It is just pure color and mark making. Wish me luck with little Lucy and gelli printing. Susan

Wow!!! I was afraid INK would be permanent on the plate. So I guess I was wrong. This opens up the idea of using my Dr. Martin watercolors/inks for gelli plate. Thank you for putting your toe in the water for me,...so to speak. 😃♥️

I love so much of your work! Beautiful sense of composition and contrast in character of line. One thing I'd like to see you experiment with is having something other than the raw paper color show through where you make your subtractive sgraffito marks, either by printing on an existing printed background, or by drying the sgraffito and previous layers, then pulling the print with the color that will show through the subtractive marks. They are such lovely marks, I just think they're worth sometimes emphasizing more than by showing them /only/ in the paper color. But no matter what, your work is wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing it!

That's a great idea! I can show multicolor layers uncovered by the scribbling instead of just plain white (yes it tends to be repetitious as I am a creature of habit). Thanks for mentioning the term sgrafitto, I haven't heard that in 45 years since my ceramics class days!

I liked the red and the lapis lazuli prints best, ghosts I think. I especially liked this video because this is the size plate I have, two of them…. I liked being able to see how something simple can work so well on this size plate and you worked in colours that I like. The prints look substantial though they are small compared to others you have made. That blue print is really lovely.

Thank you! I have changed my mic set up since, there have been many complaints about my breathing sounds. I am partially deaf so i don't notice too much, but when I watch my older videos I hear it and it is distracting.I have my mic further away from my mouth now, so it is not a problem anymore!

Thanks for the inspiration and your art. I watch your work in the mornings before heading into my studio space and it helps to motivate me to be more carefree about what I’m doing. One practical question. What is the brand of your larger marker and what types of markers will work for transfers? Can I use oil based markers? Thanks again.
@artwhisperer88
@artwhisperer88 Жыл бұрын
the fat marker is called Tru Red, I think I got it from either Staples or Michael's. You can use paint markers, they do stain a bit, but swabbing with baby oil cleans it nicely

Do you wait for marker to dry before rolling on paint?
@artwhisperer88

for Sharpies there is no wait time. For Poscas which are water based there is a 15 minute wait time. Posca give a superior result though.
