After being a long time ubiquiti fan and installer, we have moved to Aruba. We still use ubiquiti ptp antennas but switches and AP's, all Aruba. The integrated cloud controller, multiple vlan's off the AP's, we are a big fan. We have compared performance between ubiquiti and aruba. I believe for comparable models, ubiquiti does have very slight better performance.

I would LOVE it if you would go back, factory reset the AP15, and try to add it to your network via the mobile app. It worked so simply for you via the web portal, however, I had a client with 2 AP15s and there was literally NO way to add an additional PoE AP to the network without creating a new SSID. Based on this review, I'd say that that is a shortcoming of the mobile app, but it would be super cool if you could verify while you've got the equipment! Keep up the great work!

I got some IAP units for a price I couldn't pass up and the seem pretty darn solid. Looks like they re-used the back plate for these new ones. Mine have web gui and all the settings you could ask for and I like that you just have to set up one and the rest auto configure if you want them to. These instant on units seem to be more consumer oriented than business. Not excited about cloud config no matter how big the company is.

I see these APs everywhere. I’d like a video on roaming for the Unifi line. I wish UBNT actually made their cloudkey and controllers do the roaming, rather then having the clients decide. Sure 802.11r works great for devices that support it. But roaming is almost always better if you let the controller do the roaming.

I'm not a pro but I just compared the datasheets of the AP12 to the nanoHD. AP12: 5,4dbi for 5ghz nanoHD: 3dbi for 5ghz The 2,4ghz antenna on the Ap12 has also more dbi. Does this mean that the range on the AP12 should be a lot better than on the nanohd? I literally just bought a nanoHD and considering its 60€ more expensive I might send it back. How is the roaming compared to Unifi AP's?
@cmptuomp3
@cmptuomp3 4 жыл бұрын
Cloud only. Does that mean if Aruba goes bankrupt or changes their policy - those become fancy paperweights? Also I'm not sure I like the idea of AP sending lots of traffic info back home, probably all the DPI stuff is done on their servers and they profit some amount off your data. If you are the type of person to make a separate IoT WLAN for some devices that you don't trust, I'm not sure those are a good idea.

So now for a comparison of pro-grade, sub-$300 APs from the top tier companies? Perhaps a showdown between: - Aruba Instant On - Meraki Go (no license required) - Ubiquiti (for argument sake) - Xclaim (by Ruckus) It’s be interesting to compare the quantity and impact of the missing features (they all had to remove *something* from their respective bigger cousins to meet the price-point).
@lordcarnorjax8599

Meraki Go is quite limited in number of devices you can add to the account and there's a license part number for the gateway still on their site but the FAQ says you don't need a license any more so I'd want to clear that up before buying. Xclaim units are now End of Sale and End of Xclaim cloud service is July 25 2021.

Totally agree with you on avoiding products with ongoing licensing but I'm also extremely cautious about products that rely on the maker's cloud service to manage them as these ones appear to do. bds I doubt HP is going out of business anytime soon. Any product with cloud management architecture poses the potential problem but I worry more about off-brand IoT lightbulbs than this which is from a big-Keon enterprise company. This product line is basically a cut down version of their IAP line which embeds controller functionality in the AP itself with mesh failover BUT you have the option of reflashing the firmware to a cloud management option (for an annual fee). So basically it’s caveat emptor. Instead of paying $375 for an IAP model vs these as cloud only to lower the unit cost, you have to choose your pain. I prefer IAP installs as it’s self contained and local. But I could see a lower barrier to entry may be more attractive.

@@lohphat Thanks for pointing out the differences between these two Aruba product lines. While I am not familiar with Aruba Instant On APs, the normal Aruba APs are enterprise class APs and compete with Cisco enterprise access points. We have deployed a couple thousand of them at a single site for customers for large networks. Their main line is very stable and powerful. I would imagine that the hardware on these is very similar just with the difference of the cloud controller being used for them

These AP's are made for both residential and commercial space. The nice thing with the Instant ON AP's is that you can add up to 25 AP's per cluster and have up to 8 SSID's. For higher traffic areas i would just suggest using the AP15 and for lower traffic areas an AP11 or AP12.
