So many composers have done settings of this text. But for me this really captures the verse structure and the power of the text without being cheesy. Singing this was one of the most spiritual experiences I have ever had.

I can hardly describe the depth of this piece of heavenly worship....utterly beautiful.

I am not religious, but music based on the bible is just beautiful. I learned the Beatitudes by heart, because I'm so fascinated by the sound of this master piece. It inspires me... I can't get enough of Arvo Pärt's work!

I barely learned about him and am already thinking he had an epiphany or something similar. His music is beyond human.

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Amen.

Near incomprehensible mastery of Composition. It;s difficult to explain how good it is without the explanation sounding like it's missing an "ah, but the most important thing he does is..."

Noel Edison and the Elora Festival Singers offer us a magnificent interpretation of this respectful polyphonic Arvo Pärt masterpiece. Elora is a picayune village and therefore unusual that it should have such an abundance of musical talent. Bravi ! As for one LondonEnglishClasses comment: your cynicism reminds me of the Black Death - irrational and indiscriminate. I will suggest to anyone in my part of the world intending on brushing up their English at a London language school to avoid you as one might said Death. I should add that your tautology has its inverse. "At least something NOT good has come out of NO religion."

I agree that you have to be suspicious about it. I would even go as far that one should question everything. Scepticism is definitely a virtue. But if I had to choose between taking something on faith, taking something on reason, or just saying 'I don't know', I know that there is no way I could ever justify to myself doing the former. It would be always either on reason or 'I don't know'.

@Mayiw absolutely the same with me! Inspired by the Ideals of Humanism and the era of the enlightenment (ais it really named like that in english? I am no native speaker) i turned away from christianity...Also because i found it presumptuous (again not sure if the right word) to hold any religion as more plausible than another... but from listening to music like this i get the feeling of empathising the very core of christianity and suddenly it seems very deep and very true

Although I find some of those ideals inspiring, I cannot share the era of enlightment faith in reason, because, well examined, reason is behind many irrational acts, like genocide. I don´t dismiss it, but i´m suspicious about it. So it was the opposite with me: now I find more inspiring the Epistle to Diognetus -an old christian text- more humane.

sounds alright, but I find it easier to understand a speed rapper with a speech impediment, than any opera/choir sung lyrics. just sounds like elongated notes.
