It’s actually the way the people of Lorath talk, Lorath is a city on an island northeast of Braavos and it’s the smallest of the nine free cities. It was built by a race called the Mazemakers but later conquered by Valyria. Jaqen H’gar was likely someone from there who was killed by the faceless men and his face was used by this assassin, either that or this really was his true self which I kind of doubt.

I actually LOVE the character Jaqen H'ghar. Sure, he's an assassin, but he doesn't do it because he's evil. He's actually very devout. "All men must die." He just eases them on their way. And the payment is the sacrifice to the God. He's actually a good man, if you look at his moral code from a slightly less-than-conventional point of view. and that "please?" really helps, too. But when he says, "a girl lacks honor," I can't help but think that he's thinking, "Maybe this girl has what it takes to be one of us, after all. She does not limit herself to conventional views on death and killing."

Please do more of this, (truly) full stories are more satisfying and interesting than starting one and then finishing half-way without ever touching it again. The bit I like most is that I'm fairly certain THIS is the moment he realises she could be a nameless man. "A girl lacks honour" is not the insult most think. It's an acknowledgment of drive, he realises she'll do whatever it takes. Then again, he says "please" because his honour would mean he WOULD kill himself if she pushed.

I'm not sure it's his honor that would push him. I think it's more his devotion to Death. He's basically a cleric, a priest, and he worships Death. Death demands a sacrifice. He has to pay it. He knows he's going to die, eventually, anyway. And when it's his time, he just hopes he goes easy. If he has to do himself, he'll make it easy. Doesn't mean he WANTS it, though. But then again, doing or giving what you don't want is the nature of sacrifice. I agree, though. He's been sizing her up as one of them, from the beginning. And this is when he decided, "Once we're out of here, I'm giving her a coin. She's got the right stuff."

I never read the books - but my DYSLEXIC older (grown) son did. And he watched the series... But I've enjoyed the shorts, especially the ones who explain the differences between the books & the show. I think Arya has become my favorite character. She is strong, determined, intelligent and unswerving in her quest.

Edit: thanks for likes everyone and comments as well Edit:arguments of people in comments are valid.honour didn't kill him,not having awareness of the events happening around him and thinking everyone else was just as honourable as him got him killed. @Lord Cregan Stark I would not say catelyn started the war.the events were basically sparked by LF sending a assassin and then blaming it on tyrion.Sansa really had no northern spirit.she went from extremely annoying in first 2 seasons then we got a little sympathy for her.in last three season I wanted to go into that universe and personally kill Sansa. I hated the arrogant,idiot Sansa of last seasons.

This was my FAVORITE PART of GoT. This is where Arya REALLY came thru on her own into her own character. I love how this man kills ALL of the guards and makes them stand up with spikes so they can all escape the prison. This is A FANTASTIC PART OF THE SERIES.

noooo.......but he had already named himself AS Jaquen, and there was noone else around using that name. remember what they said in later seasons... "a girl is noone." Faceless men don't HAVE identities of thier own.. they give them up. .only whatever mask they are wearing at the time. he couldn't even just take the mask and put it on someone else ..as that would simply be another identity wearing a mask. THAT PERSON, at that time, was jaquen hagar. His only other way out of that situation would be to find another faceless man, get them to claim the jaquen idenity, and then kill them. and he was a long way from home. This Jaqen, much like the waif that tormented Arya in later seasons...got cocky. and he paid for it.

What's crazy about this is that he dosent need to kill himself even after Arya says his name (and even then he is not breaking any oath or rule) since his real name hi unknown and a man is nobody. It just makes you think how he was always willing to help Arya and made her look smart to gain her confidence.

Huh I hadn’t thought of this, I mean I knew he was a faceless one and they give up their names but I assume he was still beholden to killing himself since that was the name he gave her but the idea that he didn’t have and was just interested in playing along with Arya is pretty cool I think

I think he knows what she means which is good enough in this sense. Yeah he could have used that loophole but he understands that she means “the guy I’m currently speaking to.” Which is probably good enough

Jaqen was my fav character. Him, the city he’s from, the coin he gives Arya, the mystery of the temple that she slaves at and his zealous behavior. Aryas and Jaqens thing is def one of my fav storylines in that show!
