I really like this Aryna Sabalenka. I'd pick her over players like Wozniacki everyday. I wouldn't say she has many chances to win this right now, but I hope she advances to the SF, let's say. She really has the potential. And she is a future grand slam winner. Multiple grand slams.

No "experts" in the media have included her name in possible winners of the Open, but the way she played in New Haven last week proved to me that she's the probable champion and future #1.

That's an interesting point actually. The betting websites are neglecting her as well, I reckon they don't wanna risk a big payout because her odds of winning were quite slim initially.

The main thing I like about Aryna is that she competes really hard and fights for every point. You can tell she wants it, but I can’t say the same for Petra here. She did not have the same energy. All players should play with Aryna’s level of intensity.

lickos83 , name call all you want rather than debate the merits of my reply. It still doesn’t change the fact that Sabalenka is younger, faster, fitter, stronger, and more agile than Serena is at this stage of her career. If Sabalenka can hold up mentally, it could be a cakewalk matchup for her. 🎂🍰🍮

"Upgrade U" by Beyoncé was playing during one of the changeovers. I thought it was quite fitting. Great win for Aryna! Perhaps her biggest ever win. She's improved so much in such a short amount of time. It's scary to think how far she can go if she can keep her determination up. Still a long way to go though. Lots of youngsters have started off strong but fell off the rails. It will be interesting to see how she holds up when people start expecting her to win. As for Petra, great year outside the slams, 5 titles, but absolutely horrendous slam runs. It's kinda hilarious that this was her best slam performance this year. It's what she deserves though for always playing the week before a Slam.

+Shem Mack What do you mean? She had a great run before the Us Open and hasn‘t had a problem with heavy hitters so far (e.g. Bencic, Keys, Görges, Kvitova). Actually she is more likely to lose against a pusher (Wozniacki, Halep).

Each time Aryna summons this (1:23) pensive-looking guy, on the left, his mantra seems to be the same: do not rush things, step back, think your combination through, take more time between the serves. In other words, it's excessive agressiveness that's her problem - he once even said: 'this is not streetfighting for you', i wonder how much biographical meaning should we read into this) And now it's obvious that the less noise she makes, the better she plays.

Unbelievable, seriously. Sabalenka must have been tired! As fresh as ... To some extent, predictable although up to physical fitness of Sabalenka. During USO series, Kvitova, & other top 10 players, didn't show their quality of usual. Combined them, an ascending (provisionally 17 th in ranking) young (20 yrs old as her next opponent Osaka) outlasted. 10 dfs, only 1 ace (!) is not her hallmark in Kvitova. Run out of gas, 2nd set was a one-way traffic. Take care, Sabalenka. Too good to .. yet very young, fatigue accumulates ..
