Hey A&A! Way back when I was a child, my father bought the album "Songs in the Key of Life" for me as an Xmas present. In fact, he bought two copies. The other copy was for him. I've known since I was a kid how brilliant and special the music on that album is. My Dad passed away some years ago. The song "As" helped me process that grief. Whenever I hear this song, I think of him and all the bonds we shared. Especially the love of music like this that we shared with each other. Peace, guys.

I can agree there is a lot more "music" out there every year than than the 70s. There is a huge volume of over produced, synthetic, formulaic rubbish which makes it harder to find the cream. However, the cream is still being made. We need to search harder to find the good stuff. Japanese bands are driving metal and rock forward. Europeans like Dirty Loops are changing Pop. Great music is there, but much of it is created outside the USA. Jazz is alive and well too. Listen to Snarky Puppy. They record in the Netherlands! Please have faith. Search out modern _real_ musicians, and support them. Otherwise the sh!t will win. Best Wishes. ☮

Songs In The Key Of Life was not only a double album, it also included a 3rd disk, a 7 inch EP with an additional 4 songs! And basically every track was killer in one way or another. Also, I spoke to him on the phone once, just for 15 seconds or so, but still. He called the recording studio where I worked, wanting to leave a message with my boss. I took the message and he gave me his real name, Steveland Morris, which I somehow happened to know. I hung up and said to my friend, "I was just talking to Stevie Wonder!!"

Oh man, you have to check out his early '70s hit Boogie on Reggae Woman. It's the first use of a synthesizer bass in a recording like that and the whole thing is just genius. He plays a mean harp in the middle of it and if you do the regular studio cut you get about 45 seconds of the original harmonica jam on the outro, whereas for whatever reasons the radio version chopped off that last little bit.

He created his incomparable run of albums up to Hotter Than July in 1980 by the time he was just 30 years old. Mind-boggling genius.

I was 3 when this album came out, and my mom played it constantly. Even with all of the great stuff on that record (Sir Duke, I Wish, Isn't She Lovely, there's so many), this is the song that's always stuck with me. Even with how many times I've heard it then and since, I'm always shocked by how damn perfect everything in it is. The Billy Preston style Rhodes solo, the perfect use of the growl, the background singers, the random drumming moments, it's all perfect. And he was perfect for a 3-album run.

You have to look at the lyrics to know where the title As comes from. This entire album is gold - every bit of it.

I 1st heard "Little" Stevie Wonder when he was 13. There are very talented people in this world and there are true geniuses. There are no boundaries with his music. You may feel free to rate any of his songs S tier even before you hear them.

👍😎 Great album. (A+). Was lucky enough to see him (80’s). Kinda funny story bout it. He came out, sat at keyboard turned out to us and said, “I’m not going to play until I see everyone in there seat”

Am I glad you did this. My favorite Stevie song, hands down. I think it often gets overlooked because the title is so short and many people don't recognize it.

I don't know where Stevie gets his inspiration, but he always delivers. Has been doing so for years and his subject is usually love. I suppose that is his inspiration. Love. Thank you Stevie.

Even Masters have Masterpieces and for me, this is was Stevie's (but not without some competitors: (Golden Lady, Ribbon in the Sky, Superstition, Higher Ground, Boogie On, ad infinitum). I am so grateful that God put me in the Motor City through these years and gave me exposure to these triumphant works and many more Motown related works - regularly. It is a gift I cherish daily.

I concur with so many other commenters here. "Songs in the Key of Life" is incomparable. It is a masterpiece and the height of Mr. Wonder's creativity. Its, and his, innovations, his lyrics, his melodies in such abundance on this work are unmatched my any artist before or since. I cry when I realize Mr. Wonder's genius and his lyrics and appeal to all. It is now almost half a century old and it remains a perfect work in its entirely never to be equaled or exceeded.
