Yes! :) I interpreted that part this way: from elementary school to high school, Haru and Makoto had different friends, but they were the constants in each other's lives. They were never separated all those years. 💖

En lo personal, me gusta más Asahi x Kisumi, siempre me pareció adorable y divertida su dinámica, y que fueran de los pocos que siguieran estando en contacto desde la secundaria (sacando a Makoto y Haru) me pareció más lindo todavía. 😄💖

I think Rei and Asahi are more paralleled. They're both energetic, confident, and pretty loud & proud, lol. They both had swimming blocks that they had to work through, and Asahi is paired up with Kisumi - as Rei is paired up with Nagisa. They're obviously different, but I think they fit with your counterpart idea! They're also attached from when they were in ms & Rei helped him with his swimming. Perhaps Rin's counterpart is Natsuya? They both had close friends (Sousuke / Nao) who were injured and are waiting for them to return to swimming.

based on the ED of season 3 I think that the Iwatobi boys and the Ikuya Protection Squad (aka Haru's middle school teammates) parallel this way: Haru - Ikuya Makoto - Hiyori (both are of the caring malewife archetype + they both do backstroke) Rei - Asahi (they met in middle school and almost ran into each other several times in high school) Natsuya - Rin (both have sharks as mascot animals) Nao - Nagisa (process of elimination) Sadly it seems Kisumi isn't paired up with anyone from the Iwatobi squad, but since he was close friends with Sousuke in elementary school, he was shown alongside the Samezuka team in the ED
