There are exceptions to this rule. Some people know from experience the importance of perseverance. These are the people who did not accept defeat. They considered it only a momentary experience. These are the people whose will is so bound up with perseverance that their defeat eventually turns into victory. We who stand on the margins of life see a large number of people who have fallen to the ground in defeat, but they never get up. On the other hand, we see some who believe that defeat is nothing but an inspiration to try harder. Fortunately, these people never accept the reverse gear of life. But what we do not see, and whose existence most people are unaware of, is a silent but powerful force that comes forward to help those who struggle against despair. If we want to give a name to this force, we have to call it perseverance. We all know one thing that if one does not have perseverance, he cannot achieve significant success in any field of life.
As these lines are being written I look up from my work. And I see before me a block away the mysterious, great Broadway, the “graveyard of dead hopes” and the “threshold of opportunity.” People from all over the world come to Broadway in search of fame, fortune, power, love or success. After a long time a man stands out from the long line of opportunity seekers and the world hears that a new star has risen on Broadway. But Broadway cannot be won easily or quickly. It appreciates quality, recognizes talent, pays in riches, but only if a man refuses to quit.
Then we know that the man has found the secret of how to win Broadway.
