As orthodox we do vegan on Wednesdays and Fridays and we have to “give up our sins” too by making more overt attempts at not being angry, watching our tones and trying to remain calm, while also trying to be good to others when we can and we do this in preparation for taking communion on Sunday - we generally should not take communion if we do not do these things… because we are not “in communion” with God and therefore we are in sin. Mostly we do this as a checkpoint so that we can keep on the right track in our attempts to be like Christ (Theosis). The early Christians favored the symbol of a fish to represent their affinity with the Nazarian. The festive air, the joy and solemnity shared by those who attended The Sermon on the Mount was to have participated in a cultural watershed. The idea that people can recognize what truly matters most: that through humility and kindness, we can again, share like the breaking of bread and fish, yes of course, share in the immediacy our common bond; that we are born again of Love through such Peace. His passing was commorated by those who chose to express their appreciation for Jesus the man, while affirming the universal message of Christ's love.

There is truly nothing we can give to God other than what He has given us in His boundless mercy. @pams-pl1ys True. Thomas Aquinas said that Friday began the Weekend, which leads to Sunday, and every Sunday is as beautiful as Easter Sunday. Some Christians believe that Easter Sunday is actually the Sunday following Tuesday April 9th, because of the Eclipse that we will have on Monday April 8th. But, then some Christians take that to an extreme and begin to try to predict the exact day of the 2nd coming, which is a sin against the Holy Spirit. We merely human beings rely on Faith alone. Faith knowing that God exists and Faith knowing that our sins are forgiven, even if we don't know that we have sinned, or cannot control it.

I’m a Protestant, but I have an opinion on this. I think it’s totally fine if you want to fast on that day, as long as you’re not adding rules to the church where they weren’t added in scripture. Christ spoke in great length against that. Meaning, if I choose not to fast EVERY Friday, it’s fine. I personally observe that on “Good Friday” but I am reminded daily of His sacrifice. Yeah that's very nice , what does God's word say - God gave us his Word so our opinions can be disposed of as they should be - receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior ... blessings

But then, Father Mike, why are Catholics in the United States allowed to eat meat on Fridays all year long except during Lent? What is the justification for that then? Please do a follow up video on that. Thank you Father.

We're supposed to do some kind of small penance in rememberence. Most people forget, so the Church basically said "let's all do this one!"

Why do I have to pay a stipend to the priest for marrying me? Why do I have to pay to get married in the church when it’s required to receive the sacrament to get married in a church?

I forgot you’re not supposed to eat meat on Fridays during lent whoops - next week!

If you’re Catholic, you better go to confession because you are required to abstain on Fridays of lent at the minimum

Really only Catholics do the no meat on fridays thing, and even then most Catholics still eat meat on fridays. I think you're good dw.

It's no meat on fridays all the year, not only during lent. Though I would like to add three things. One is that this friday no meat, depending on decision of regional bishops, can be exchanged for something else. For example in my country, it's no meat, or some spiritual act (saint mass, rosemary, ..., you wouldnt normally do), or reading of bible, or chose abstaining in some other way. Second thing is, you we are not having lent on friday if there is some feast day on friday. And lastly, sin have to be intentional to be sin. So if you din't broke the lent intentionally, it's not a sin and you don't have to go to confession. If you wasnt aware of the lent, or didn't know it's on all fridays, or forgot about it, it's not intentional and therefore not a sin. But it would be good to not forget about important things like this, but sometimes, you just forget, right? :) Just always remember, why do we have lent on all fridays, that's the point of it at first place. To always remember what God did for us. The same as why we feast and go to mass on sundays. :)

@@femaleKCRoyalsFanIt’s not a mortal sin. Venial or mortal, full consent of the will was not given. “I forgot but I will fast next week.” The only consent I see is to remember to fast next week.

@@femaleKCRoyalsFanin the US, catholics can substitute giving up meat for giving up something else that is pleasurable or luxurious, or participating in some other form of penance, unless it is a full fasting day (ash wednesday or good friday). for many americans meat is a cheap staple dish, not a luxury, and fish is considerably more expensive. genuine forgetfulness is also not a mortal sin - it is forgiven during the Mass. we just have to pick ourselves up and be more mindful next friday. :) god bless
