Adding the basic with a sling to pick off your casualty from their gear is what I used in one of our tower rescue training sessions a few years back. The instructor told us to use any approved method of pick off for our casualty. Everyone else used the existing tools they provided at the training. I told him that I was going to use this method. I was able to lower the victim in record time! When he asked about it I told him I learned it from the boys across the pond! He was impressed! I've employed some of your techniques in the field on tower jobs and when I take people on recreational rope adventures! I always love your videos. They are very easy to understand and follow along with. I hope to visit there some day!

Although the techniques you use and I use for caving are slightly different they are close enough for me to learn a lot from watching these. Thanks for starting to make videos again!

I feel the fastest way to pass the casualty with your back-up is to first clip into them with your cows tail and then move the back up. It's two moves. At the same time you have also pre-established 1/2 of the contact points needed to transfer him onto you. But regardless, well done! Best videos on KZfaq.

Love your videos, I just muck about with this stuff for fun, not for work. After studying this video God knows how many times I tried it for the first time (about 1.5m from the ground LOL, low & slow) and all went smoothly. Only difference is I used a 6:1 mini rescue pulley for the raise. Not as quick but real easy. Thanks for the instructions.

Adrian...when you initially connected via soft link for the back-up transfer, does this take the place of using his cowstail for your second connection point (3 carabiners being the first) prior to the counterbalance. It makes sense (last amount of steps) but wanting to know for sure. Thanks!

Very good

I've found the easiest method for lifting a victim off of his croll is with a handle ascender and footape. Fully extend the footape, place ascender and footape above casualty, thread foot loop through the sternal point on the casualty's harness and back into the carabiner on the handle ascender. Step into the foot loop and you have created a simple 2:1 with no extra equipment.

Question: When you put your cowstail onto him & then proceeded to remove his back up, wouldn't that mean he's technically on one point and that would result in a failure of the exam? At this point, he's on 1 point on his main line and then on 1 point onto you. Not two points on either. (Until you installed the karibiner hardlink)

Why does the patient always hang from the rescuer? In our rescue squad the rescuer hangs from the patient. That way the rescuer reaches the ground first, can detach from the system and can prepare the landing area. The patient can hang just off the ground and then be lowered in a much safer method.

They don’t teach the quickest way in training centers and I want to know why. When you are in your decender and connected to the casualty, simply straddle the casualty hooking your legs around, use them to lift the casualty out of the ascender.
