In Ash's defense, nobody gave him any advice on how to train or discipline Charizard. They just berated him and said he needs to train him even though Charizard never listened whenever he tried. Still, our boy is at fault for being very lazy about training his Pokemon unless he was in the mood for it and he'd usually only train the one Pokemon that episode.

That’s why I loved Charizard’s character arc in the Orange Islands. He finally learned to respect Ash and became one of his aces from then on out in 3x other regions (Johto, Hoenn and Unova).

Nah if I was Ash after that first league loss, Jessie, James and Meowth would never be seen again fam. Made me remember how angry I was at team rocket as a kid and how livid I would have been at them in his shoes. Glad team rockets use of screen time in leagues got better as the seasons went on. Also Drake was lowkey a fraud, Ash had FIVE mons left when Dragonite came out. Bro is hard carried.

I love the way they handled Bellsprout. Because it's small and flexible, it makes sense that it would be hard to hit. If it were a Weepinbel or Victreebel, it would have been stronger but also a bigger target. Jeannette really knew what she was doing.

The fact Bulbusaur refuses to evolve despite wanting to get stronger is 🤦🏽‍♂️. Imagine if he did. He'd be a sleeper back up ace. Squirtell should have evolved too tbh. The worst part. Ash has 3 really powerful Pokemon that he doesn't use, yet when he does they put in WORK. If he had trained them (Kingler, Muk, Tauros) through his journey, he wouldn't have struggled nearly as much.
