The Ashanti (Asante) empire is one of the most prosperous empires in Sub-Saharan history. Its history is one of war, peace, technology, and trade. Personally I loved researching this episode.

You actually pronounced it well, Asante! Ashanti is the English corruption of the word Asante. Asante simply means, because of war.

Great video. I'll be doing a video on the Ashanti for patrons soon as well. Minor error btw is when you said "Osei Tutu sits on The Golden Stool." Nobody is allowed to sit on the golden stool, not even the Asantehene. It is too holy of an object for any man to sit upon. It can't even touch the ground either. It must always be carried or placed on another stool, chair, or table.

The Ashanti took the Golden Stool from Ntim Gyakere(the King Denkyira) during the battle of Feyiase of which the Asantes won. Therefore the original and current stool was from Denkyira.

Great commentary. An interesting addendum would have been the shocking speech made by the British governor on the eve of the War of the Golden Stool. To a stunned crowd, he demanded that the stool be brought to him so that he could be seated on it. Casus belli.....

Only then I realized how mismatched the relation between the quality of your videos is compared to your number of subscribers. Looking forward to watch your other videos and watch your channel and community grow. You make amazing content about topics with way too less publicity. Keep it up

i like how your the first to show the two distintive migration routes however saying the asante was well equipped would be misleading by the time of the last war britain had done a blockade on gunpowder , guns , and all military essentials , the asante was left to using stones and sharp objects as pellats of big outdated slow to reload guns however maybe a couple hundreds had modern riffles compared to british rocket launchers canoons machine guns as wells as using biological warefare through disease

“So they did the most British thing and took everything they can then burnt the rest”😂😂😂 Great video mate, loved that you spoke in detail about the Asante Empires economic and political organization prior to the Anglo-Ashanti wars, as it seems like history usually just focus’s on the latter.

@@patriciaadansiSome came from the far east after invasion by the Romans, Greeks, Assyrians, most Africans in Egypt moved to Makuria Kingdom in Sudan. They faced opposition from other great Kingdom after the fall of Kemet to the Arabs mainly the Turkish/Persians/Syrians. There emerged another great Kingdom know as Aksum which stretched from Morden day Eritrea, djibouti, Eastern part of Sudan, Northern part of Ethiopia (Abyssinia) and most part of Yemen. Those who fled the Arab trecious invasions move down to another established Kingdom called Gao/Kawkaw near mali/Niger area. The exedus still continue down the coastal forest in present day Ghana, Burkina and Togo for the Akans from the east route... The earlier Arab writers recount such history in university of Mali among the very first in the world. The Akans have been in Ghana a little more than 1,000 from the west side of old songhai empire.

Why do most of the ancient pharaonic names bear remarkable semblance to names of kings of Akan royals in Ghana, West Africa? I taught ancient egyptian were magical flying White Greeks who came into africa (egypt) to build pyramids rather than building them in their own land (weirdly there is no pyramids in arabia or Greece, but in Nubia(Sudan there is 255 pyramids which is more than the 118 pyramids in Egypt). Hmm something is fishy 🤔 1.Pharaoh Khufu =Akuffu or Kufuor (both presidents of Ghana from the Akan tribe) 2. Pharaoh Tutankhamun= Tutu Ankamah (royal Akan name) ( as in Osei Tutu) 3. Pharaoh Akhenaten = Akhenten (royal Akan name) (as in Oti Akhenten) 4. Ankh Ra= Ankhra (Ankra) (typical Akan name as in Twumasi Ankra) The list is endless. Ancestors of the Akans say they migrated from Egypt to present day Ghana through Timbuktu. their kings have been saying this since time immemorial. Sankhara(Mentuhotep III ) looks like Thomas Sanakra Name who was a African.

Connect with a native for facts and to better articulate. It's dangerous to present a subject of history when you know very little. It could lead to a misrepresentation that distorts history
