Asheville is not only popular for its nature, but also its Art, music, architecture, and Beer., It is big enough to have good services & entertainment, yet it still has a small town atmosphere with under 100,000 in population. While we are going to focus largely on the tourist activities, what to do in Asheville, we are also going to show a couple of communities if you are interested in moving to the area. Asheville is popular for retirees, but now the dominant group moving in are 20-34 year old Millennials and young families. With UNC Asheville & Western Carolina University, as well as an area conducive to the active lifestyle it is popular for College Aged people.
Asheville City Limits has seen its growth slow alittle bit in the last couple of years, but the 4 county area around it has seen a healthy growth, especially Waynesville & Maggie Valley where you can get more home for the money, yet still 20-30 minutes from Asheville. Now if you have the big bucks you move to Biltmore More Forest, wow. How would you like to live there. Oh and theres a Tropical Smoothie in Asheville, a plus for any city. So no matter what your reason is for coming to Asheville, maye to visit, to live, to hear some music, and maybe just to drink Beer, I think you will enjoy our Journey

11 million visitors a year and second home investors have created a false economic bubble that is seriously screwing the people who live there. 200 evictions this week. Property owners making vacation rentals and pushing out the very people that service and feed all the tourists that provide the attraction. Plus the generational locals cant even afford the property taxes on land that has been in the family for generations. But money is more important than people.

Any beautiful area gets ruined by the super wealthy…. Wish this country or I guess I should say each state would put more restrictions on rental properties…. Don’t think you could on 2nd homes so any area with a lot of those are gonna be an issue…. I know Vermont has these issues as well….

Nice video, the French Broad river is a blast to kayak, but it does get pretty busy around the River Arts District. You did a great job making Asheville look appealing.

You know the Asheville waste water treatment plant dumps runoff into the French broad river. I don't swim in it. Growes nice cat fish thow.

The French Broad River is a place you should NEVER EVER EVER EVER SWIM OR KAYAK. The Woodfin waste facility dumps literal poo in the river. Not to mention many years ago the river was actually used as the dump basically, people would throw their trash in the river to transport it down the river. Not making any of this up, but that's only the beginning. Once every year or two a dead body is found in the river near Asheville. You can watch the water and see literal human turds floating down the stream. DO NOT SWIM OR KAYAK THERE.

The city of Asheville is extremely overcrowded, roads are full of potholes. Rent is at skyrocket high prices and homes for sale are ridiculously expensive. Nice place to visit, that’s about it.

TampaAerialMedia I moved here 11 years ago for the peace and quiet. Moving the hell out of here because it’s been transformed into a tourist artsy fartsy getaway for the very well off or rich. It’s all breweries, hotels and condos. Low wages paid to workers. 1 bedroom apartments starting around $1,000.00 a month. Poster city for gentrification.

Although Asheville is very beautiful with a lot to offer. To many people come to visit and then decide to buy vacation rentals. I moved away in oct because I could no longer afford to live by me self. No jobs unless your in medical or service industry. All the people being rude when they visit here and all pretentious people moving in has ruined it. If you love Asheville enjoy it from a far.

@@ganymeade5151 Many, if not most, desirable places are experiencing the same problem - Florida, Charleston, upper New England, Santa Fe, and Ashland, OR are a few other places, experiencing a great influx of new residents and visitors, pushing up real estate prices beyond the reach of the local job market. Hendersonville is another nice western NC community, along US 64, not too far from Asheville.

I love this state so much! Asheville reminds me of my hometown, Hillsborough, just bigger. It's a place I have been drawn to for a while, may need to finally explore. Although I completely understand those saying do not move there. The same happened with Hillsborough, too small of a town and too many people.

Asheville is kind of becoming a mini Portland, so I wouldn't reccomend living in Asheville city limits, but there are some great cities around it.

ive lived here all my life, let me say something im 19 and i strongly disagree with most the points in the video. The actual city does not feel small it feels over crowed from all the people coming in, our population has grown so fast in such a small amount of time that our roads cant handle the traffic so from 3PM to about 10PM its large amounts of traffic. City has a major drug issue. Beer is in abundance that may be good for some but for others its caused our PD to have a joint task force with the buncombe county sheriffs officer specifically for DUI cases in the city limits. At 2AM all local PD reports to the city to deal with the closing bars and insure no ones driving so its normal to see PD flying left and right. UNCA is close yes but because of the amount of more fortunate people that live here if you are young and try to do anything like skate/bike in small outside surrounding towns like Biltmore Park the security, there will just ban you pectinately. Housing cost is insane my rent is 1,350 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment that excludes my power and water bills. If you want to vist here go right ahead but keep in mind most of us are still unhappy with the population boom and our mountains being exploited so heavily for commercial use.

WCU was WCC when we held hands and courted on campus. Yes, we courted; it was the way back then. Just a way to see if we could do a lifetime together. We did. 1n 2021 I had to lay her to her rest high up in the Balsams after 60 years together. WCC (now WCU) was a delight. Her school, a k-12, was in the center of campus, right next to the college classroom building. She graduated from high school, college and earned a MA there, in the buildings side by side. What a treat she was.

My father was over and my family and I spent the evening watching your channel for Thanksgiving eve. I love getting to know (personally unseen) areas in this great beautiful country we call home. My Dad is from Morehead City, NC, and my Mother is from a farm just south of Slater and North a ways of Des Moines, IA. We go to Morehead every 4th of July in the summer and love to explore NC, so beautiful, great fishing, and green. I can’t express enough the great job you do and how interesting it is to watch, learn, and enjoy the show. It was my birthday the 24th, yesterday was Thanksgiving, and today I have been in the hospital since 2am and my wife is about to give birth to our 3rd child, soon to be three boys. Thank you for all the hard work!

The Asheville area is beautiful to look at while driving through, but as far as living there, no so good. Rent is out of this world! And there are alot of druggies all over the place. But it is a beautiful place to visit!!!

Couple weeks ago while in Hendersonville a guy broke into a home owners truck and stole his gun, got into a shootout. When the swat team arrived he shot one of the officers in the face who died a few hours later at the hospital. Suspect was shot and killed. It's like the wild wild west out here. Come prepared because trouble will find you at some point.

How could an Asheville travel video not mention the Grove Park Inn? Glaring omission. The most beautiful sunset view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. At least have a cocktail in the Sunset Terrace.

yep a good suggestion. We didn't get to prep like we normally do for a video, as we were planning on filming in ATL, but with riots had to change, but yes had we done our normal research, we probably would have shown Grove Park Inn.

Great job promoting the blind eye, to negative environmental impact tourism/human population has upon Asheville and its surrounding. My wife and I went to Asheville a couple years ago (Tennessee road trip in 2017, Asheville in 2018, and WNC just a few months ago). As a visitor, we didn’t see or were oblivious to the French Broad pollution, homelessness, and drug and alcohol addiction. It’s sad that the gateway to nature has turned into what people are saying it has. Moving forward, we’ll fly into Asheville but drive 30-45 minutes to the SW, NW, or NE to some of the smaller, more quaint towns. We recently spent time in Brevard (5 days) and were very pleased with the location, access, and small town feel. The city is nowhere near the size of Asheville, but is only a 35 minute drive from the airport. There are clear rivers, great hiking (Balsam Knob, looking glass mountain), and state parks just a short drive away. We did parts of Pisgah, DuPont State Forest, Gorges State Park, among others and had a great time. The downtown is small but there are a couple different “districts” with a number of restaurants to enjoy. Overall, I think the nature adventurer would find a much better time in areas like Brevard, Highlands, Banner Elk, etc. It’s just as expensive, if not cheaper, and you get both the small town feel with being closer to nature.

Shhhh. 🤫 Please keep the Brevard/Highlands area a “hidden” gem. I sure hope it doesn’t turn into another Asheville! Lots of BIG $$$ living (or second homes) tucked in and around the Highlands area but maybe that’s a positive and it won’t be destroyed by unappreciative lowlife and drugs? It’s my absolute favorite quaint little mountain town and Main Street. I find the people there very snobbish , but I’m just a hiking boots, flannel shirt wearing, down home southern girl that loves to escape there for the solitude and the unspoiled natural beauty it has to offer, not to make friends. 😉

25 years ago Brevard was much different, before there were districts and quaint restaurants serving tiny art portions, These changes happened in the early 90's when word leaked out about Brevard, Sapphire and Highlands and how charming and quaint those areas were. The Alligator Polo's with upturned Collars and Noses did the same that Asheville has now Experienced. Hendersonville had it's spurt too. Country Clubs sit where Cows once roamed. All this land once claimed as Cherokee Nation, and similar tribes. Change is not always good.

@@amrak5028 I completely agree. Though I don’t know what some of these towns looked like decades ago, I do know that they (currently) look night and day compared to Asheville. Hopefully it stays that way for as long as possible. I live in a concrete metropolis that used to be a small Florida fishing town 40 years ago, so I know change for the better and for the worse.

Really didn't see much homeless. We are used to filming in CA, so, I've never seen any city in the east that is anything near as bad as CA.

Beautiful surroundings but I was pretty underwhelmed with the city of Asheville itself. I guess Knoxville has me spoiled,more to see and do and a better variety of dining,shops and microbreweries. The so called arts district in Asheville was a disappointment too,just a few old and unsightly buildings painted with grafitti and a coffee shop. the surrounding area is gorgeous,Mt Mitchell is one of my favorite destinations,but Asheville itself doesn't live up to the hype.

@@TampaAerialMedia I certainly don't mean to put the people of Asheville down either. Some folks will say," Oh they are rude' ect That has never been my experience there. I find you generally get treated the way you treat others. The city itself just isn't quite big enough to offer what bigger towns do, that's all. Biltmore Estates is a very nice day trip BTW. Huge and tiring so you better take the tour when you are young and healthy!

@@Noahsoak From a cost standpoint you are better off in Anderson County or Campbell Co. Anderson County borders Knox County and the cost of living is cheaper, and it is a short commute with the interstate.

I lived there most of my live. I agree it's a beautiful area but there are too many problems there now. Being overcrowded with new comers being a big one. The city infrastructure can't change enough to accommodate the traffic and developers have ruined one ridgetop after another. Crime, drug use and homelessness are rapidly making downtown a very unsafe place. In the 90's and early 2000's downtown was great. Not so anymore. It's a city that wants to embrace the culture prominent in places like Seattle, Portland and San Francisco and in doing so has invited in the same problems including great things like protesters and homeless coopting most of the public spaces in the downtown area like Patton Park. I miss living there but not the there that is there now but the way it was 20 years ago.

@@TampaAerialMedia It's the politicians that have moved into the area, ran for office and won with largely money from outside the area. Something to think about as this is far from the only place that is happening and with similar results in urban decline. I don't understand it.

I notice a lot of smudges on clips. We went up to Asheville last year in October and loved it there. We’ve been considering moving to NC to the mountain areas. If you go to NC again check out Beech Mountain and Boone area. It’s stunning!

Asheville & environs is very beautiful! My year in ATL and 3 in CLT gave me many opportunities to stay there. The Grove Park Inn and Richmond Hill Inn are both fantastic places! The French Broad River appears greener than I recall, as it was usually blue, but maybe a recent rainstorm stirred it up some. It is great for floating and that treetops park looked great. I have been the entire length of the Blue Ridge Pkwy from VA to NC and TN - one of America's most beautiful drives - especially in October! I bought a book "50 Great Waterfalls in NC", most of which are adjacent to the BRP, and Little Switzerland is especially gorgeous. I subscribed to WNC Magazine for a couple years to get more familiar with nearby places (Greenville, SC - an hour south - is also booming with a nice downtown). The Biltmore is an amazing site (originally surrounded by 125,000 acres owned by the Vanderbilts). There is good eating in town, and while I appreciate the artistic bent of Asheville, Pack Square can often be full of some strange folks, druggies & beggars that are a turnoff to me. It is a recreation paradise, and the elevation reduces summer heat & humidity. I can heartily recommend the area, but I think I would prefer to live outside of Asheville proper. It is only 3.5 hours to gorgeous Charleston, too. I stayed in Asheville after TN football games, so as to avoid jacked-up hotel rates in Knoxville (plus Asheville is a nicer town). Btw, glad you enjoy Tropical Smoothie Cafe (love their Pineapple Mango smoothie and apple & kale salad to accompany the great wraps!). Another fine video. I will look for the TN version, too.

The video does a great job showing off the beauty of our mountains. However, was this filmed during quarantine? I'd love to know where those quiet empty streets are located! Also, if you travel to the mountains, under no circumstances should you refer to it as "Appa-lay-shun". It's "Appa-latch-in."

Look into the Upstate South Carolina, or North Georgia. More peaceful and more affordable where you can mingle with the generational locals. Halfbacks have priced realestate too high in other areas such as Asheville.

It looks like North Carolina has gotten absolutely trashed. Last time I was in Hendersonville I remember the water being a lot clearer. What's with all those rivers? I wouldn't let my dog swim in that water! It looks nasty. Those Rivers look more like a swamp in Florida than a river! I live out west and our river water/streams are Crystal Clear you can practically drink it. No wonder everyone is moving from Western North Carolina to Boulder Colorado. I have met a lot of people down there from Western North Carolina that recently moved there. I was curious why so many people were moving there and I assumed it was just the fact that we don't have humidity out here.

Asheville use to be a beautiful place to call home! Now drug addicts are Everywhere,, the French broad river is running rampant with ecoli, Asheville city council has defunded the police Dept by $770,000, so make sure you are aware of your surroundings, the cost to live in Asheville is insane, with one bedroom rentals starting around $900 plus a month. I would suggest South Carolina first!

Asheville used to be a beautiful place to live. We lived there our entire lives till it really started goin down hill. Even more glad to be away from there now. You seamed to forget to tell the people about the blm autonomous zone downtown, and all the damaged buildings downtown, the black tarp over the Vance Monument and the fear of just driving downtown. Maybe if the mayor and city council were replaced soon the city could be saved. Anyone planning to visit, maybe this will help you make a better decision.

I have lived here for decades and have yet to meet anyone that moved here from California. The people that move here are mostly from Florida and New York that don't need a job. If you are young, the service industry is most likely in your future. Obviously, this video was created with great drone footage of the area but the creator needs to either live here for a month or stick to videos of their own city. As for river activities always check to make sure the water is safe to swim and tube. The French Broad is notorious for not being safe to be in.

Probably true. There are alot of people from CA that are moving to NC, but many of them are going to Charlotte. It would take too much time to live in a city for a month before we do a video, we research it for 2-3 days than film it for 2-3 days.

Dont float down the french broad river its completely polluted. Little Switzerland is an hour and a half away from the city and in a different county. Not too many Californians but a ton of Rich Floridians. That coffee place on the river is about 20 minutes down the river from the local landfill. If you want to see the clearest water in America go up to Yancey County Mountains near Mount Mitchell and go find the freaking South Toe river, its clear and doesnt look like brown mud like that city water Asheville. I live in Avl but shoot man its more of a hippster community for young kids with a ton of options for older folks. not many people have "country accents" like youd expect were actually normal speaking people that live in lil san Francisco in the mountains.

That is the sad fate of so many areas. They get discovered, and then people from higher-paying cities move in, creating demand, and pushing the prices of real estate beyond the reach of locals. In the process, a place loses the very ingredients that made it attractive in the first place. It is happening to Charleston, Ashland, OR, places in VT, NH, and Maine, and all over Florida, and some of thecwestern states are seeing invasions from Californians, sick of the high prices and political mess of their once-Golden State (ID, MT and UT are joining CO, AZ and NV in getting all these transplants, and NOT happy about it!)

@Bush Doctor True, just like early arrivals to CA became very rich, since they kept rol,rolling, their equity into newer homes. However, for a healthy economy, you have to keep having new blood. Once the lower tier cannot even afford housing, they move out, and new people stop coming, which eventually hurts a place - just as CA is bleeding residents (aided by horrible governance, too). Ashe villa is no CA (yet), but they seem to promote the same garbage governance of SF or Portland/Seattle and it will have the same effect that it had out west. People who can afford the prices will be led there by the beauty, but no one wants to live around rampant homelessness, drugs, litter and waste- all that do abound in those 4 large West Coast cities.

Asheville is a tourist attraction, and that is what we do. Specifically we support the travel industry, and while you may see people visiting as a negative, there are business in Asheville who depend on tourism to be able to pay their bills, especially after being on shut down for awhile. We will continue to support the travel industry.

If everyone in Asheville stops voting the same ilk of Democrats into local office then many of those problems would be solved. The roads all around the area have all been repaved nicely, but if you go into the city it's like they won't spend a dime on infrastructure. The city is crumbled compared to how it looked 10 years ago. It looks like someone's failed attempt at playing Sim City, which is exactly what all Democrat-ran cities across the nation look like right now. It's no coincidence.

Overcrowded. Drugs and alcoholism in abundance. Rent and housing is out of reach of actual living costs. Not enough actual career opportunities due to the overpopulation. Making ends meet on touristic slave labor jobs is not a way of life. The beauty you see and are attracted to is being stripped to accommodate the overpopulation. The erosion from the trees being too quickly cleared is astounding. The French Broad keeps dangerous levels of Ecoli. Visit yes, but don't move here.

Asheville used to be cool ; especially bel chere , but now it's just a bunch of hippy stores and microbrew bars. Pretty lame in comparison to 20 years ago.

Been here my whole life. This city offers nothing but alcohol and drugs. Rent is too high with no facities to maintain careers. Johnson City offers the same stuff with more affordable rent and better quality of life.

I miss the old Asheville... I have been here for 63 years, and the change is so disappointing..

You forgot to mention the buses upon busus of thugs that came days ago to protest and destroy our town.....how about the thousands of needles laying around anywhere uptown at any given moment from all the Drug users that now fill our streets.......I have many many generations of family here....lived here my entire life....between the trash thats moved here...the drug users.....TONS of homeless and street beggers.....the incredible uptick in traffic......NO....THIS PLACE is no longer paradise.....used to be......its changed by the sewer drip of outsiders and its not what you see from this vid......outside of asheville its not that bad......but Buncombe County is a SEWER now.....from city council on down.

Yep the busus of thugs started arriving our last day of shooting and it didn't get bad until after we left...Looks like Asheville is becoming another Portland.
