This should be the standard. The care and respect this show has for the original voice actors is nothing I've ever seen before. Bringing them onto the show was the best thing you could do. They have lived these characters and breathed life into them. We love them. And to have the show ALSO love them. It's just beautiful. Our Ellie giving birth to Ellie. Full circle moment. Ashley Johnson is simply brilliant. If you know, you know how much blood, sweat, and tears she has continuously put into Ellie over the years. Including her was so pivotal. And she absolutely delivered it. I still hope we get another flashback of Anna. We don't know much of her backstory and that fascinates me still. But I know that will never happen so I'll just say this. Bravo to EVERYONE involved. Ashley you are simply incredible.

Ashley Johnson is the one who brought Ellie to life in the games AND the TV show. It was only right to let Ashley play Ellie's mother. Having her, Troy Baker, Merle Dandridge and Jeffrey Pierce appear in the show shows a lot of respect to the original voice actors from the games. Laura Bailey reprising her small role as the nurse from the first game was a fun cameo/easter egg as well!

JFC people. Laura did many voices for unnamed npc's in the first game. She played a FEDRA soldier, a civilian in the Boston QZ, and she did the voice for one of the nurses in the OR at the end of the game. I know her voice very well, and that of the rest of the cast of critical role, so I can easily pick her out in games and animated shows/movies. Emile is right.

It's also pretty cool because Bella's acting as Ellie, so she's sort of working to match what Ashley originally did when Mo-capping the game, so some of their speech patterns and gestures are even similar (but not exactly the same), the way parents and children are IRL

@@victorgann4869 because it’s nonsensical. The Oscars give awards out to actors performing in FILMS. The Emmy Awards give them out to actors performing in TV shows. The BAFTAS and Spike game awards already exist for actors performing characters in video games. What he’s saying is the equivalent of wanting a music artist to be acknowledged by the Nobel Foundation when they’re already given awards by the Grammys.

It was SO COOL to see Troy Baker & Ashley Johnson be involved in the series as side characters. Without them we wouldn't be where we are today, super cool that the crew from the show decided to give them roles and honestly so awesome that Ashley ended up being Ellie's mum! What a cool full circle moment. But, can't really say the same for Troy seeing as he ended up being killed by Ellie. 😂

Its great because Ashley could be bellas bigger sister/mum. They aren't identical.but look similar enough to be related. It's a master stroke of casting and I hope this kind of cameo casting continues in season 2/3.

Ashley was truly the best choice for Anna's role. She did a fantastic job bringing Ellie to life in the games, and now she brought Ellie into the world in the HBO series - her lines in the show were few, but they were everything we'd expect Ellie's mom to say, and then some. Good job, Ashley! See you in Part III.

My understanding is that she created the Ellie we know now. I think I saw that the first scene was the truck ambush and Ashley said she felt that Ellie would also fight. So glad she was allowed input in such a huge project. The woman has been in the industry (acting) a very long time.

She absolutely played a huge part in who Ellie is as a character. She brought her sense of humor, her bravery (as you mentioned), her struggles (dreams of becoming an astronaut, losing your father at a young age; struggling with words), and they even share many common interests (comic books, video games, archery). Ashley herself has said numerous times that they're practically the same person who grew up in different circumstances and I really couldn't imagine anyone else creating this character. I fully believe TLOU1 would not have become as popular and iconic if it weren't for the levity that Ashley brought to the game and that made the player instantly connect with Ellie.

I'm not gonna lie. I am a grown 29 year old male and I went through the toughest period of my life last year. I was in a burnout, I was having anxiety and panic attacks, I almost killed myself. Then I discovered Last of Us 2 and I thought: "Huh, the internet hated that thing a while ago. Let's give it a try." To keep it short, I LOVED the game and it's in my top 5 of all time. And Ashley Johnson is the reason for it. Her voice, her acting, everything about her... This game just pulled me in and wouldn't let me go. Which lead to the following - and I am not kidding. I repeat, I am a 29 year old male... and when we watched this episode and I heard the first grunt.. Only one single grunt of Ashley... I immediately started to cry and had tears in my eyes, because I thought: "Yes, this is it. This is the voice that got me out of that mess." So, I can't be more thankful and although Last of Us 2 is such a drowning and sad story, it's still wrapped around my heart and I will always love it. I know, no one cares. But I just wanted to leave it here to show a little gratitude for everybody who worked on the game and on the series. I love it, thanks!

I LOVED seeing her in the last episode.. I had no idea she would be making an appearance.. It's such smart writing to be able to do it without feeling forced or contrite. As a big fan of both the games and now the show, I thank you so much Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker and everyone else who have been a part of this amazing story and portrayal of forever iconic characters. The only thing else that we as fans could ask for in season 2 of TLOU is if you and Troy Baker could do some songs for the show … either inserted in the episode or for the end credits. This is how you adapt something to a new medium. You take what was great about the original, and keep it great. Then you add other great stuff. I feel like that should be self-evident, a no-brainer, but too often I see adaptations of things and wonder if the people making the new thing even like the original thing they're adapting. The Last Of Us was a great game, one of the best games I ever played. And this series was one of the best shows I've ever watched. Kudos to everyone involved.

This show is a blueprint on how to do a great video game adaption. Not only that they did everything true to the original source material, they also added more information to those who already played the game such as Bill’s episode and Anna

Best damn show...especially from a game that my sons and I have played through at least 8 times. The show is true to the game, but even if you have never played the game, or aren't into video games, you will LOVE this show!

With all the care they're putting into the show, let's hope that one day we get to see an emotional T-Pose after a particular heart-wrenching moment of drama. At that point I'll have everything I wanted from this show. ❤
